Tyler Texas needs an FGC!

This is an after-the-fact post.<br><br>We had 45 people come out to the Round 1 event last Saturday, which was awesome. We had limited room for setups in GW because we were limited to two tables, but we made it work. Many thanks to everyone that came out last week, we had one cat drive in from Amarillo (which is pretty awesome)!<br><br>Many thanks to Mattikus_gaming for streaming Marvel and AE for us on limited internet. Matches for both AE and Marvel should be under his Youtube account, which is Thematt903. Also, a big shoutout goes to the DNS squad and Arkanis for running commentary on Marvel, and we hope you will return for the Round Two event!<div><br></div><div>Also, a big thanks goes to Jared and the Tyler Smash Scene for showing up and bringing setups (and helping with Tiopro). We also raised around $40 for the Susan G. Komen foundation with our Skullgirls tournament, and that donation will be made soon.</div><div><br></div><div>Also, we’re doing a donation drive to fund the purchase of 4 Asus Lagless monitors - if you can spare some cash, please donate @ https://www.wepay.com/donations/etfcmonitordrive. We’re 35% of the way there thanks to one person donating $250.</div><div><br></div><div>Round 2 event information may be posted as soon as this coming Friday (March 1st). It depends on when I will have time to travel to Lindale and secure the facility. </div>

We were in awe regarding the number of people who came out to support the East Texas FGC. Team DOOM3DnSCR3WD (DnS) sincerely want to thank Mike O’hara for his leadership in putting that event together and we’re sure Round 2 will be just as fun. It was a pleasure doing commentary w/ Arkanis, who is a badass dude, and look forward to doing it again if needed. </span></font><span style=“font-family: Arial, Verdana; font-size: small; line-height: normal;”>A big shout out to JumpMan for winning UMVC3 and looking like a beast. </span><font face=“Arial, Verdana” size=“2”><span style=“line-height: normal;”>Mike if your reading this, you can definitely count on me and Faptain for Round 2, also we have the following equipment to bring for use at Round 2.</span></font><div><font face=“Arial, Verdana” size=“2”><span style=“line-height: normal;”><br></span></font></div><div><font face=“Arial, Verdana” size=“2”><span style=“line-height: normal;”>-2 Asus VH238H LED monitors</span></font></div><div><font face=“Arial, Verdana” size=“2”><span style=“line-height: normal;”>-2 xbox 360</span></font></div><div><font face=“Arial, Verdana” size=“2”><span style=“line-height: normal;”>-Folding table, 4 folding chairs-big enough for two consoles and monitors to be facing back 2 back. making 2 stations.</span></font></div><div><font face=“Arial, Verdana” size=“2”><span style=“line-height: normal;”>-2 copies of UMVC3, 1 copy of SSF4, SFXT, TT2, and MK9 </span></font></div><div><font face=“Arial, Verdana” size=“2”><span style=“line-height: normal;”><br></span></font></div><div><font face=“Arial, Verdana” size=“2”><span style=“line-height: normal;”>Our resources are at your disposal, Just let me know.</span></font></div><div><font face=“Arial, Verdana” size=“2”><span style=“line-height: normal;”><br></span></font></div><div><br></div>

Round 2 Update!<div><br></div><div>Here’s what I’m looking at presently for the Round 2 event:</div><div><br></div><div>Tentative Venue: Lindale, TX Public Library (as much as I respect Mark and the crew at Geek World, that venue is too small for us)</div><div>Date: April 6th, 2013</div><div>Time: 11am to Midnight</div><div>Venue Fee: $5 per person (if you bring a setup, that fee is waived)</div><div><br></div><div>Will be seeking input as to what tournaments to host. Smash Bros and Project M are a given, so are Marvel and AE.</div><div><br></div><div>(tentative) Streaming will be done on site again courtesy of Mattikus_gaming, with our Marvel commentators Whiskeydick and FaptainAmerica hopefully coming back!</div>

event page is now live for round 2: https://www.facebook.com/events/360270024082048/

One thing of note though … I got the release date mixed up for Injustice, so we will be substituting Tekken Tag Tournament 2 in it’s place.

All tournaments on the page are $5 entry (with the exception of any doubles or team tournaments), with 70/20/10 payout going to top 3.

Faptain and I will be in attendance.

Event page is on SRK as well: East Texas Fight Club - Round 2 (April 6th, 2013)

Also, do we have anyone from the community heading to Bar Fights this weekend in Ft. Worth?

we’re getting closer to the event guys! tell everyone you know about the meetup on the 6th!

Email I just sent out to the mailing list follows …

Hey all,

Just wanted to drop a reminder in about the event this weekend in Lindale. We will start taking tournament signups and venue fees at 11am on Saturday until 1:30pm, at which point signups for ALL tournaments will be closed. If you’re not in line to pay at 1:30pm, you will more than likely not get to play in a tournament … so if you are coming from out of town, make sure to arrive promptly so you can pay your venue fee and entry for any tournaments you wish to enter.

Venue fee is $5, and if you bring a setup that fee is waived (to be clear, a setup is the following things: a monitor for a HD console and/or a complete setup with monitor/tv and a console. Tournament entries are $5 for everything except for Brawl and Project M teams, Brawl and Project M teams are $10 a team (or $5 a person).

Here’s the list of games that will have tournaments this weekend:

Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition (XBox 360)

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 (XBox 360)

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 (Playstation 3)

Super Smash Bros Brawl (Nintendo Wii)

Project M (Nintendo Wii)

ALL tournament games (save for the winners/losers/grand finals) will be best 2 out of 3 games. The finals of each game (along with the Marvel tournament in general) will be best 3 out of 5 games.

We will be selling candy, sodas (Dr. Pepper/Mountain Dew) and Monster Energy drinks on Saturday as well (these prices will be announced at the event). We also will be selling halves of pizza for $5.

Payouts will be different this time, instead of 70/20/10 it will be 60/30/10.

Hope you all can make it on Saturday!

– Michael O’Hara

Hey, is anyone still actively playing in Tyler, Lindale, or Longview? I play SF5 and my fighter ID is fiercerunner.

I’ve stepped away from fighters to focus on community related stuff. I run the Facebook group for the area as well, which is not very active at the moment but still gets posts now and again.

I may come back soon for Tekken 7 and perhaps MvCI, but I have not decided yet.

Hey Mike what’s up man? Have you been on that t7? This Ron btw

So I’m trying my hand back at the FGC, maybe I won’t let travel costs get to me this time. Ha.

Yo Mike, how’s it been? I’ve lost contact with a lot of people, doesn’t help when even Tyler is considered far by my standards ;w;

If anyone is in the Longview area and wants to go for a few local games, I’m down for it. I can also play online at irregular times so ask for my gamer tags if you want.

(Besides Mike, I would be extremely shocked if anyone recognizes me. Here is hoping they won’t; rather be a literal nobody than be remembered as “that nobody”.)

I’m trying to remember who you are!
