So while STHD is the newer game, it seems a lot of people would prefer to play ST on Dreamcast rather than STHD on PS3. Dreamcasts and adapters are available for people with Dreamcast or PS2 sticks/controllers. After speaking with Brett (Psychochronic will be co-directing this tournament) it was thought best to put it to a poll. We both agree that the majority vote will have to rule here. I am not entertaining any other discussion about TX as that announcement is coming soon so please don’t ask.

Well, here is my opinion.

Ideally I would love it if we can run both, however I understand the time or the money might be a huge factor, however this can make both sides happy and the ST and STHD matches usually run pretty fast compared to all the other games.

STHD: I personally like the game because yes its different and people have to adapt to it as most of the players in GTA did. The nerfs it gave for some characters in my opinion was good and allows some kind of balance (not perfect balance) between the characters. I have read in the forums that it seems most people are “happy/accepted/adapted” with the changes. Hence, the coming up evo is going to host STHD. Ofcourse, knowing Brett running it he will BAN akuma (since evo is doing the same).

ST Vanilla: Nothing to say about this, rather than its a classic and everybody enjoys it (I hope GTA players agree :slight_smile: ). Only problem is I have with ST is the throwing setups for some characters (Dhalsim and Boxer), damage scaling, and stuns.

As I said earlier I don’t mind hosting both if possible, but if it was a choice I would go with STHD. However, from my experience in MAT seems the MAJORITY of the players are going to be from Montreal. I would definitely rather play ST vanilla than not playing any form of ST.

GTA lets start helping each other and make ST more hyped. I don’t want really to be in TX and see only 2 teams from the GTA. Lets all try and play and help each other in ST and SF4. Judging a game being stupid or broken is usually applied to every game there is, I would like the GTA to try to be abit opened about this and give this game a chance and if you are struggling there are many players that are more than willing to help you improve or tell you the basics.

I would like HDR to be the mainstay for ST however I can appreciate peoples gripes against it.

At the end of the day it doesn’t make enough difference for me to care which is played.

Everyone wants ST back. CigarBoB brings back ST at Evo by doing a 3v3 side tourney, the results: everybody get hyped up already. I mean, this game is too good because of the awesome drama it brings, dont get me wrong. When i ran STHD Team Tourney, i was quite upset cuz i know the people who were participating played ugly, they were like confused and shit. Not because they didnt know about the new changes, the feeling was just weird.

There was 24 ppl tho, 8 teams, i expected more than that seriously. And then the next day, its was the Single Tourney. At first it was a bad start cuz only 10 ppl were participating, i was like ‘‘WTF?! How come there’s more players today and less players participating?!’’.

I spoke with the players, like Jay Wang, Nagata and my MTLSF ST crew about it, the same comment came ‘‘I dont like HDR’’. Ok, so i ask Mao like, what should i do? He said why wont you switch to ST? I ask the players about it, they agreed to switch to ST. Its was a gift from God i should say. I was able to find 6 more players to make a 16 man tourney, perfect.

While the tourney was on, i realized this tourney was better than the Team one, this 16-man tourney became a strong one after announcing its was Classic Mode we were playing. The competition was better, everything was better actually. No Hate on STHD, run both tourneys, but if i recall from my experience as the STHD director in MAT, ST was the hype.

GTA players, get ready for this year.

I can see arguments going either way…

But I think the majority of the people have next gen console sticks over DC sticks, so even though I think we should use vanilla ST, if classic mode on HDR is suitable, I’d rather people use that.

I’ll won’t vote just yet, but I’d personally rather use classic mode on HDR over anything really.

I’ve never played classic mode in HDR. If the speed is the same as HDR, fuck classic mode too.

Speed is the deal breaker for me as well. Ever since STHD got the update it’s unplayable to me.

Classic Mode on HDR isnt the same as Japanese Arcade ST.

Actually i beleive all O.Chars are better than HDR Chars, except O.Claw.
Guess i got to buy an PS2<DC converter. :confused:

Here is a suggestion. If we are to play VANILLA ST. Would it be viable to run it using a Emulated ROM? Would this not be as close to Arcade perfect as we can get it?

Also, considering most people have next gen arcade sticks, it is a known fact that most of these work for PC to begin with.

Just a thought. I agree with Jimmy Bones though that we should play Vanilla, even though my favorite scummy character will get nerfed.
