1 week until this tournament is held. Only one more unreserved sign up left on the list. (7 entries in total) I guess team WC/FFA is to “good” to sign up or attend this tournament. :looney:
its funny that we re gonna find out who the “strongest non-japanese player” is, when alot players aren t going to japan.
why not come to EVO? EVO has had a 128 player minimum for the past 3 years
i think console is still a huge turn off for a lot of players =[ a lot of people look at the pictures of people playing on the floor and say “no thx”
while i dont necessarily agree with this attitude, we can’t force people to do anything, so…
Not that eks and TSC need any backup from me, but here’s my 2c for anyone that cares.
I’m a huge fan of EVO, and would like to go one day. Unfortunately there are a lot of people that can’t make it to EVO, but they are going to be in Tokyo during SBO. That presents a window of opportunity, which TSC, and the rest of the OzHadou team, are capitalising on.
Why doesn’t everyone just go to EVO? I know that most Australian 3S players won’t touch 3S unless it’s on arcade. (I don’t approve of this stance, but that’s how they feel.) Plus costs of getting to SBO are less than those involved in attending EVO. In addition, Japan is recognised by the global 3S community as the strongest nation, so if you’re a hardcore 3S player and you’re going to travel to play, the US is unlikely to be at the top of your list. (BTW as a scrub I find the US more appealing, but that’s not who I’m talking about here.)
Will TWW results be meaningless without FFA players? Of course not. FFA players have opted out of EVO in the past, and not every top player makes every tourney. TWW, like any tourney, is going to identify the best non-Japanese 3S player that enters on the day, same as any other tourney. The upshot is that TWW will have top 3S players from all over the world, including many nations that just can’t/don’t/won’t make it to EVO, and it’ll be done on arcade cabinets using EVO-style rules. It’s a unique mix which I believe will be a great experience for the players that participate.
After EVO2K6, there was a lot of talk amongst 3S players on SRK about where competitive 3S was going. The finals were dominated by Japan, and I think there was a sense of “Is there anything left for 3S?” I don’t really see how this innovative tournament is doing any harm to 3S. The most harmful thing that’s going to come out of this idea will be created by all the eligible competitors that will be in Tokyo and are choosing not to enter.
What 3S, and SF in general, needs right now is more support, more events, more exposure, and more recognition for top players. TWW is just another opportunity for 3S. There’s no intention to undermine EVO, SBO, FFA Ranbats, or anything else out there, so I don’t see why people really need to “worry” about it.
Hi, please sign me up if there is space left. The names Rule (UK). Thanks
