TW's 2: @ the dojo, Seth Division: 07/17/10

I can get behind that. +

I never half ass anything I like, never will.

I see no point in just patting people on the back all the time, breeds laziness and failure. I’m not saying don’t do it, but god damn the amount I see is nauseating. Hype is fun, hype for hype’s sake…gross. Finally something is happening that is interesting/ competitive fire.

Ya’ll say you’d rather do that then pretend that a game is really important, I can just bring up Marvel/(the game you liked/passionate about)…you guys did the same thing in that game I’m doing in this. It’s gross you’re lookin down upon it now, hypocritical even.

WEAK

EDIT:

If Mickey wins (which means I’ll be making 10$) I’ll be donating that to the Dojo as well. That’s a good idea and the Dojo has allowed me to be there very late as well even crash there once. I think I’ll donate a portion of all the MM’s I have a side bet/participate in. I encourage others to donate, the Dojo is not just a venue but a house and the guardians have provided the means for the only real location for consistent competition. As far as Sammamish is I can definitely owe alot of progress to the Dojo.

The point of patting people on the back all the time is that it’s fun to have friends and enjoy games with them while your not working on something real. It’s not a means to an end. It’s just what you do around people you enjoy and call friends.

I don’t have a problem with Mike and Mikail having a money match, I have a problem with people putting others down or creating an atmosphere where people are ostracized for not caring enough about how well they play a game. A game they only play because it is supposed to be fun in the first place. Refering to having fun with friends as circle jerking is part of that atmosphere.

If anyone has really been wondering why the Negro Thread or the boards themselves have been dieing over the past year and a half, it hasn’t just been drama, and it certainly wasn’t Airthrow. It’s because what was once a place where people could be themselves and find other people they liked turned into a place where people were made to feel unwelcome and faced hostility for expressing opinions that didn’t conform to the idea that being good at games is the most important and therefore only reason to play them. It went beyond that to the point where having fun at games and just enjoying yourself was seen as “bad for the scene”. That led to people getting an idea that any hostility or negativity was good for the scene and bred competition, like cutting the weak from the pack. Everyone has been so focused on getting good at SF as if that is a real thing, that actual real things like people, friends and enjoying yourself have taken a back seat (or were nearly kicked out of the fuckin car).

And to speak on Marvel, Marvel was fun to me because I enjoyed/enjoy it and I got to play it with my friends. It was something we did, and competed in together. No more, no less. No friends, no Marvel. That goes the same for Street Fighter.

Calling people weak is really a hypocritical statement on your part as well, as I’ve heard you time and time again talk about how you would rather hate on people and be an ass because it is easier and more fun. Being a decent person who respects others (and therefore has self-respect) takes effort and thought, while being selfish and childish for your own amusement is easy. That is weak. Before you go around calling anyone weak for any reason, take some time to think and put some effort and empathy into how you respond to them.

And please don’t come back with the traditional response of “It’s just a game.” I hear that too often arguing with people who spend massive amounts of time arguing that we need to sacrifice more and be more serious about Street Fighter.

I think in general people have so many different understandings on what they want out of the game, and should realize they’re entitled to that. Unfortunately instead of everyone simply staying true to what they want out of the game and leaving it at that, anytime a conflicting view was brought up, (be it reasons to play, venues, competition, players, mentality, or WHATEVER…) people took…almost offense to the fact that these opposing views existed instead of just saying “oh, that doesn’t apply to me.”

Now we have what we have… though I feel at any given time it can return to that which it once was as soon as everyone can just stay true to what they want to do without worrying about the things they don’t. Noone forces you to do anything, even if they bring it up as a suggestion to the boards.

I think everyone should take the time to read the first 20 or so pages of the Negro thread (I did a while back) and really see what’s up about this word…“community”.

Beautiful post, Brent. +++

Selective Hearing?

I treat people with an automatic respect because they are simply people. Now when someone comes at me is when I have a problem. I’m no saint, I know this, so when I lose respect for someone out of actions made against me I will treat them as such.

I shit talk…ALOT. I respect Delucifer, yet I constantly shit talk him. Recently he beat my ass in a tournament Grand Finals, then in the next one sent me to losers first round and knocked me out of Losers later. I’ll glady eat my words if they did some good. I shit talk for 1 main reason. I got motivated by shit talk therefore I hope to somehow motivate someone else the same way. It’s still all shit talk. I don’t carry a sense of a better life. I may be better at that game but it doesn’t make me a better person. It’s the opposite that truly pisses me off. Those who somehow feel above those that take something seriously they do not.

As continued.

I have a problem with the exact opposite. Those ostracized for for taking the game on any serious note. The group of people who have a superiority feeling because they don’t play it that much and therefore are somehow better. That shit IS weak. Those people are contantly stroking themselves and others just to feel good. That is what is making me nauseas. Playing a game with friends is fine, but to critize those that take it seriously then try to use that to feel better…SOOOO gross.

SF4 to me is like anything I do. When I’m playing Lacrosse I dedicate hours a day to go to the HS near me to just bounce a ball off a wall for HOURS becaue I know it will get me better. I go running to stay able to play. The same with SF, I put hours into the training room to get myself better, I contantly want to play people to improve on my experience. Those that critize dedication/motivation/passion/competition about something I’m doing I will have zero respect for and I will treat them as such.

You guys have the word community. Everyone participates differently (Edit for dugg) . I like competition which is why I started playing this game (seriously) and why I will continue to play this game. The fact that there are some really cool people is out of nowhere for me and an added bonus. You may feel the opposite, and that’s your right as a human, but to critizcize others for what I want/get out of the game is weak.

I have no problem with people who play casually and just play. I have a problem with those that play casually, lose, then bitch and whine that they lost because the other person plays more OR they try to **discredit **getting outplayed with the excuse that they don’t play the game. THOSE people circle jerking constantly is beyond me. I could be very cruel and harsh towards those people yet I don’t…Brent…not because it’s easy but because I don’t need publically declare anything to know where I stand, or delude myself into thinking where I stand.

Mikhail and Brent are the heroes of this thread right now in my eyes.

Mikhail for being a man’s man, and not only sticking up for what’s right, but offering to put money on the line for someone who really doesn’t deserve it, and then giving that money away to a good cause when he wins.

Brent for that perfectly written post. What you said, is pretty, much how
I feel about the scene. I just didn’t have to right to say it because I’m barely involved and if I did have the right, I would not have had the eloquence to say it as well as you.

Stay classy Gentlemen.

Edit: I have nothing but respect for the people who put in work at this game. So I also agree with b0kkin in that respect.

Sweet! Tournament Wars Schedule!!!

Stricnine: Truer words have never been spoken. After Mikhail wins TW and the money match, lets make him president dude…only YOU can prevent forest fires!

Craziest thing happened to me today! So I’m on the free way, and all of a sudden my stomach starts bleeding from my tube site (yeah, i got tubes, wanna fight about it?). I’m like, “holy shit, I gotta get to the hospital…and fast…STEP ON IT!”

As I’m flying down the highway at 85 MPH, a cop pulls me over:

Cop: "Why you goin so fast boy?"
Me: "Officer, you gotta help! I’m bleeding from my G tube site! I gotta get to the hospital quick! Can I get your permission to go 2 fast 2 furious!?"
Cop: “Of course son, I’ll even help you out, follow me!”

All of a sudden the cop gets in his car, flashes his lights and zooms out of the shoulder lane. I begin to follow him since everyone was getting out of our way! He guides me all the way to Harbor View Medical Center.

Cop: "Hurry on in son! You’ve gotta date with a fine nurse if I do say so myself!"
Nurse: "Oh stop Officer Curt, you’re so silly!"
Me: “Thanks Officer Curt…sure I hope you won’t think any less of me for breaking the law!”

After a 10 second routine, patched and good as new, I go out to where my car is parked and come to see a fine on my dash board! “$450…went past the speed limit…broke rule, bad person…love you Mickey D - yours truly Officer Curt.”

Ahh shucksss! :clown:

at the end of the day… people pay to play and compete. game over.

This is the truest statement.

At this point, if there is a TW S3, you have to ask yourself what kind of player you are and whether or not you care/want to deal with other types of players.

Are you a serious players that doesn’t want to take part in a league where they take it less than serious?
Are you a casual player that doesn’t wanna deal with possible shit talk from a player who takes the game seriously?

I know TW is nowhere near a professional league, but look at any competitive activity played on a professional level. You think Gary Payton didn’t talk shit? You think Justin Wong doesn’t talk shit?

So you just gotta ask yourself what kind of player you are. Don’t put someone down IRL because of how serious/not serious someone is about games. But also, don’t be a casual player who bitches when you play with people who do take shit serious and talk shit.

Mikhail, good shit to you for standing up for yourself and accepting the challenge (even though i still ride with Mickey on the using Ryu in TW tip).

Mickey, you already know how I feel.

Yeeeeuh

LOOOOOOOOOOOOL best narration

So much assumption.

I’ve yet to encounter these players who when they lose claim they don’t play the game. Even if these people do this, who cares? A less practiced player comes up with this excuse post-match. The only player an excuse is hindering is the player who made up the excuse. No need to get so hung up on it.

I hate shit talk. I’ve failed both evos I’ve gone to due to extreme shit talk and I’ve actually considered quitting competing. I can’t seem to get past it. Fun fact. Just scream in my face while we’re playing and you’ll win. Proven two years in a row!

Anyone wanna buy my copy of super? I have lost all drive. I used to play just for the scene but it’s just too Freeattle for me now.

In other news, thank you Frank for the answer to my scheduling woes. See y’all saturday.

look at what you guys dun did now.

People need to learn how to deal with shit talk. Im not saying you have to do it, but just learn to deal with it. It happens. A good portion of the community does it.

When I played LuckyD at EVO, I had Chris Hu and AndyOCR talking shit and basicallyyelling in my face as i played. Ignore it. I ended up scraping him the last game and shut those mother fuckers up.

Same shit happened on stage when I played KDZ. Arturo was on the otherside of the setup yelling shit at me. But then I won. When I walked by that dude, I looked at him and he looked back at me.He didn’t say a word. If you you hate shit talk, play to shut them the fuck up.

All Street Fighter is to me is dedication and a solid mindset. I know a lot of you have the dedication, but not a lot have the mindset.

l m f a o !!!

H e l l a f u n n y!!!

I know I hardly say anything of any importance anymore (because the NW section of SRK is a joke) but honestly…

Super Street Fighter IV killed the Seattle scene.

You heard it here first kids.

Marvel didn’t do it, Tekken didn’t do it either. It was SSFIV!

$1 plus an alcoholic beverage to be purchased at a public venue, but act soon or I might lower monetary portion of the bid.

SFIV is quite possibly the most horrible thing ever. TW3 should be CvS2 and Killer instinct on the snes.

How is the scene over?

I never see problems like this when people meet in person, it’s just on SRK when several people choose to stress their opinions at one another. That doesn’t seem too different from any forum I’ve ever been to.

quotin this

LOL shut up. Games don’t kill scenes. People kill scenes. We as players make the games what they are. Think about why you travel cross country to those tournaments.

For everybody that’s all “omg no no! no more drama! drama drama drama drama dramachameleoooooooooon!” about this thread. Take a look outside of your neck of the woods (NW forums) for once. It could always be nine million times worse coughcoughNYcoughcough!
