Hey Keits, how did you get around characters like tekkaman out of curiosity?
I wish stomp super was faster, that way you could punish all the people trying to use their ropes and dogs to get free combos on you whenever you block it. Woulda made lightan a lot better IMO.
This is what I see about the giant’s failure in this game. Imagine a 9-foot tall see-saw that ends on a super-sharp triangular point. Well, due to their “extreme” nature of the giant characters in comparison to the rest of the cast and normal game engine, the developers were basically tasked to balance these 2 guys on the pin-point of that see-saw of balance. If they erred a little too much on making them strong, they were broken. If they erred the same tiny amount on making them weak, they were useless. It was a difficult feat to begin with.
The testers likely concluded that they were balanced according to the way that everyone else was playing the normal characters, and the way the giant character testers played theirs. But we know now how many infinites and glitches have been found with the normal characters, so… naturally it didn’t turn out. For it to have worked out well, things would likely have had to go almost exactly as the testers envisioned.
The thing is right now, no one is playing the giants, besides Keits, so their…uh…metagame? Is pretty low compared to other characters like Karas and Chun.
I think that takes away from that so-called balanced. Being countered by a few characters is okay, but when you’re countered by alot, thats not all that balanced.
Not too good at it yet, but practicing. I’m trying to teach it to my friend so I can get some regular human practice.
Right now I’m learning the fucking crow and also V.Joe since they’re my favourite normal characters.
I’m just sad that the giants are so unviable due to having that many bad matchups. Also, Baroque rocks. Blah.
I’d record some vids of my PTX but I don’t have the equipment nor the competition to make anything worthwhile. Perhaps I’ll do a ‘how to play’ basics vid later on once I figure out how to record well.
Basically, if you’ve played Gleam of Force a lot like I have, you’ll know how the giants are supposed to be played. But unlike Gleam of Force, Negai Kinoshita is not in this game and she’d beat everyone anyway.
Can someone expand on why Rock seems to be highly rated? I’m just not seeing it.
As far as I can see (based on some tourney vids and extensive practice), he has pretty decent keepaway/camping, a solid super, and decent mobility because of his weapon dash.
But other than that, he doesn’t seem to have a decent jump-in, no reliable mixups/crossovers, no stupidly easy combos that automatically lead to huge damage. . .all things that, say, Ryu has.
Well, he has an infinite. Full charge shot is around 9k. He has alot of combos that easily reach 10k. With the drill arm, his fighting ability increases when close up. Level 3 is combo-able after its finished. Weapon Dashing increases mobility on ground and air, but can be used to make opponents whiff attacks. (ie dash towards them and weapon dash away.) Level One super is one of the fastest supers in the game, making it easy to punish with. Normal arm has alot of potential and can easily combo. Decent assist. Shield gun negates chip damage, which is useful when you’re out a partner/low on health. Can be healed by Roll. Shield gun can reflect projectiles and makes for a great wall bounce combo.
Dunno. I think he’s pretty good. If not A-rank, at least high B. But then again, I <3 Mega.
EDIT: He might not be able to do alot of damage, but he can do 10-13k consistantly.
Rock has an easy corner infinite, and can do 17-18k with drill combos into supers pretty easy up close, and that doesnt count the damage/chip you take just trying to get in on him.
Corner infinite’s damage is only so so though. It’s like after 40 reps you’re still not even near 1 polymar normal combo, lol.
Rock’s mobility and keep away are probably his strong points imo. Infinite as I said is just ok in terms of damage since it builds meter pretty fast. Like you guys said he’s good just not broke.
It takes 14 reps on Mega’s infinite to build two bars on their meter. 5500 on the starting 7 hits. By hit 14, he’s done 8504. That’s an extra 5 hits which is the repetion itself. Meaning those 5 hits are doing 3004. Because scaling forces attacks to 35% after the 15th? hit in a combo He’s not really doing alot. BBQ changes that though.
Hmm how much meter does he build out of it though? Maybe you could start out doing the infinite to build meter then switch to using his supers in combos to rack up more damage? I know doing karas’s infinite leaves you with an assload to work with afterwards.
