I guess this works the same way people have been Jump Canceling Morrigan’s 66 for an instant overhead except instead of an aerial, it’s just another dash. You COULD say this was already discovered, but I (and apparently everyone else) never thought it could apply to almost everyone else.
Not really I don’t see this affecting gameplay that much. Blade is still better than a lot of the characters, and his air movement is still top notch.
If you wanna smurv me from full screen… I’ll be happy to throw out a poke for you to run into.
As far as calling it wave dashing over smurving because there’s less explanation… you’re still gonna have to explain how to do the wavedash so I don’t think it matters what we call it. We could call it dickballsing and it’d still be the same.
Awesome find but Im concerned TvC matches will become wavedashing fests I mean how easy would it be to consistently throw out a poke everytime the opponent wavedashes so fast?
This game already had a regular “wavedash” apart from this glitch. Hold down or d/f, then tap ABC. By holding down you cancel the ending frames of the dash and can dash again faster (but slower than the glitch). It’s also good for dash up throws, since it lets you get back to neutral position faster. You can do it backwards with d/b of course. I always called it wavedash because it reminded me of the VS series technique.
I also think the glitch should be called super dash. It gives a more accurate idea of what you’re doing and distinguishes it from the other dashing technique.
I’ve managed to get it on the Classic Controller with Yatter2 doing 66696,I’m pretty sure it can be done with A+B+C.I better off using the dash button anyways because this d-pad is raping my thumb.
I’m actually going with superdash as dashing with A+B+C and d/b or d/f is what my friends and I have been calling it wave dashing since it replicates/looks similar to the Smash wave dash. The Wavedash isn’t the same as a normal ground dash/backdash as it cuts the animation short allowing for a seemingly shorter & faster dash approach/retreat that allows you to act faster.
I like this…it’s generally easy to block everything in the game and a character like Alex has a hell of a time catching someone. With the slowed air dashing (for most) this will hopefully just improve the metagame (harder to hold bars, should I call this assist from full screen, etc). Defensive type assists (like Karas for example) may end up better. Considering you can empty cancel most normals it’s going to be more important to react to what a standing character is doing full screen, and I could see vertical jumps being a good defense against someone rushing in like this.
I should get a chance to test this tonight, but has it been confirmed that you can do it back dash->forward dash or forward dash->back dash?
I think superdash is making more sense than wavedash based on a few points brought up in this thread about returning to neutral and the whole up/down movement. I mean, it’s still a movement technique, but it’s definitely not a wavedash, just accomplishes similar goals. And NC’s calling it Smurving either way so I’m gonna be hearing that. But everytime I attempt to call it a superdash myself when explaining it to people, I end up just saying wavedash to make it easier.
But yeah, we do kinda have 4 pages arguing on what to call it. Who cares? A name will stick from somewhere.
It can have two names and people will still understand.
I just have a lot of people who know Melee tricks and calling it wavedashing would hoodwink them into thinking something wrong. While calling it wavedash is definitely historically correct, Super Dash seems to be more accurate in a modern sense. And no one would ever confuse Super Dashing with anything else.
I’ll take superdash. Anything but wavedash. I talked to a guy I know who is dabbling in TvC but plays Smash heavily, and when I mentioned the name wavedashing to him he perked up, as if I was somehow validating his existence as a Smash player. Damn Smash-tards.
Man Jimmy u should go ahead and label it the j-dash or just call it smurving lol. It would just be funny to hear an announcer at a big tournament reffering to it as getting smurverd up lol. Nice find Jimmy ill try it out tonite and tell ya how I feel about it.
Also, I tested this with Joe the Condor, Polimar, Chun, and Jun, and it seems this doesn’t work going forward out of a back dash, or back out of a forward dash. Shame. Guess the trick lies in influencing the directional momentum.
