Turtle Complex

Make friends who play other characters, play them in endless.

Also the farther you get up in ranked, character variety goes way up.

Basically a flame war of those who do not approve and those who accept turtling. Oddly enough I quoted this one time already because it was just that awesome.

“The people want to see punches exchanged; that’s what I wanted,” Pacquiao said. “But Mosley didn’t want to fight toe to toe. He was always running.”

“I don’t think he tried to win; I think he just tried to survive,”

How you define a fighting game and how I would define a fighting game would probably be different.

not true
turtling may be part of the game
but i dont respect players that do turtle…

but why does it matter what anyone else thinks right?

For those of you that are are particularly adversed to any sort of turtling I’d be interested to know which characters in the game (SSF4) you’re using. Because with Ryu you cant just start rushing down from hopes and dreams. Aside from just walking in Ryu doesn’t have many ‘safe’ options for getting in on an opponent and even when you do he doesn’t have great mix-ups. There are things he is good at but rushing in definitely isn’t a strong point. That’s not to say he cant be played in that style at all. But that’s hugely dependent on the match-up. I cant find the link but a good example is Daigo’s Ryu vs Momochi’s Ken in one of those Gods Garden Tournaments. This is a match-up I’m sure no-one is a stranger to but seeing it played at such a high level really shows how defensive you have to be playing Ryu sometimes. I know that description isn’t that helpful without a link. Perhaps someone else could oblige if they know which set of matches I’m referring to.

Frank

I typically use Guile, and if anybody complains that I’m not an “exciting” player, then can suck my flash kick.

If you’re enjoying the game and you’re not cheating, then ignore the hate.

Just play Ryu (or what ever character you choose) however you want Frank. If playing a def Ryu works for you, and allows you to win the match, stick with it. Ignore any hate directed at you.

I’m a rushdown fighter and main Makoto, but there’s definitely nothing wrong with having a solid defense and being patient. Patience is a very valuable asset when fighting. The ability to see through your opponent and anticipate their next move is absolutely essential x)
