CoolboyCorporate: UFGT7 did use PS3 that is correct, and while the overall tournament still ran well, it was laden with problems which took up a lot/wasted a lot of time. I know first hand because I was there to experience it.
My issue was going with PS3 based solely just because people want it, rather than it being a well thought out long term decision. I understand there are demands from the players, but logistically speaking it’s tough to run tournaments with two systems. Players end up having to borrow sticks/pads, and organizers have to procure more equipment. I am looking at this in a more long term arrangement. It took a long time and a lot of hard work to get the SF scene where it is today being xbox360 exclusive, and there are good reasons for that. I feel that it’s necessary to explore the reasons for making a change which appears to put us back 2-3 years in time, in regards to tournament operation.
As for nobody complaining about it in the states, there is plenty of complaining going on. You just don’t hear it on stream because they pick those comments out. Nobody wants to represent themselves in a fashion that would take away from the experience and that goes for streams as well. Thats why you don’t hear about these issues, it’s a well controlled environment. I spoke with quite a few top level players at UFGT7 and they almost all mentioned the poor performance of the PS3 in comparison to Xbox, specifically in relation to gameplay.
However, there are reasons for using PS3 for MK over xbox360. xbox360 DOES NOT allow for use of the patches offline (specifically without the use of xbox live for authentication). This causes the game to backtrack to the original release version on the disc, meaning all balances are removed thus vastly affecting competitive play. PS3 however appears to retain these patches on or offline. This is reported to be fixed in an upcoming update (no date yet) for xbox360.
As for this tournament, I have no problem with PS3 citing the above patch issue. I just wanted to understand how and why the decision was made to go to PS3 and voice my opinion on the matter. I feel it’s important for tournament organizers/scene leaders to stay transparent on any major decisions (as i feel this one is) and be able to explain the process so everyone can better understand and, of course moving forward support and changes that are rolled out.
RXS: Thanks for the concern Vince. I’ll certainly take it into account for next tournament. Both system have issues altogether but it is true that 360 is more stable. It just sucks that most of the players use PS3 for MK. The best thing I can do is mention to them to use sticks so that we can convert to 360 in the future. For now, I have to stick with what’s the most commonly used system by the community (Toronto wise).
lol not many players move properly on a 360 pad. I was listening to a few pods about the 360 complaints being no guarantee on directional input for mk. Everyone complains about everything no matter what you do, so something will always want to be changed. However majority rule

""Hi guys, sorry but my account is going wonky right now so I asked a friend to post for me. From the looks of it A&C World will not have the required SSFIV:AE we need to run this tournament. TTT would like to ask the community for help in regards to this. We have MK (3 PS3’s) and MvC3 (4 360’s) covered.
If I am able to pick up your 360 on Friday afternoon in preparation for the tournament the next day, I will waive your Venue Fee ($10) and give you 5 extra raffle tickets. Of course, you can also bring it on Sat @1p but I prefer having the system ready to go on Sat. I just need 4 systems that have AE installed.
I have work and the Earliest I’m off is 3pm. I’m hoping this starts later than expected? I’ll be downtown about 5mins Subway away. Hopefully I can join Marvel. Sucks that its on 360 but I guess gotta find a way to make 360 Joystick work.
