You have to learn the frames/timing, that’s the best advice I can give.
Once you learn what you can and cannot do safely, you’ll stop making mistakes and mashing like everyone who is new will do. You just have to keep playing and don’t let better players intimidate you- Letting the other player scare you almost always insures getting handily beaten.
