kuroda makes any character look sick. he could play guile in sf4 and make him sick (unless he suddenly has some dope shit in AE, but last time i played SF4 guile was boring as fuck)
you will play urien and you’re going to be a fucking beast
i dont know what the fuck more zoning anyone could want out of a guy who throws giant electric/magical mirrors on the screen
Just take each character to training mode to learn what all their moves are. Then try all their challenges. Then watch a couple videos on TheShend’s channel on YouTube of good Japanese players playing each character to say how they work in practice. At the end of all this, you will not only have found at least one character you like, but you’ll also have a lot better understanding of how the game works.
Just see who you like.
I kept saying I will never play Ken, because everyone and their grandma does, but I ended up playing him. However, this isn’t like SF4 so you don’t hear SHORYUUUUUKEN every 2 seconds. I’m leaning towards playing Alex as a secondary, I just need to get out of some bad habits.
Rushdown to zoning? Isn’t Oro the opposite of that?
you use F.Strong, or his target combo, or short into spin 2 win and throw trickery to get them to the corner brah. Perhaps b.fierce into cr.fierce if you’re feeling exceptionally ballsy. He is very offensive. His defensive options blow.
Necro relies on the corner rape plus his moves generate stun like crazy.
me personally I’d look at urien/shoto.
I thought OP meant that he likes rushdown over zoning; that was my interpretation.
Im going to main ibuki all day long and then dabble in Akuma
Ok so I can’t decide between Oro and Urien. I am completely new to this game but those two definately have the most appeal to me right now but I’m not sure what I should be doing with them. As I understand it Oro’s main ‘thing’ are his chickenleg combos and I got those down except on hugo which seems really hard to connect. However it seems impossible to hitconfirm with anything into his s.mp to start the chickenleg loop. I mean I can’t just walk walk up everytime and press s.mp hoping it’ll connect can I? I have the same problem with Urien, I don’t know his ‘bnb’ so to speak. Comboing into his c.hp seems nigh impossible?!
Lastly I would like to ask which of these characters is harder to play or if any of you have general advice on these characters, it will be appreciated.
The best advice I can give is just to watch some matches and see how the characters are played, then try them yourself against a buddy or in training.
It took me a month to find a main and a secondary character. Play Ken for now and experiment like crazy in training/arcade mode with all characters. Training mode for combos/mastering set-ups (the timing and consistency part). Arcade mode to practice punish combos/moves. And then online to put it all together.
Also, there’s nothing wrong with playing a shoto. If you’re still caught up in the IV series, just know that zoning with fireballs and safe dps don’t really have a place in this game and don’t get you far.
Look at the character select screen.
Which character looks the coolest to you?
Use that one.
Play Ken for now? Yeah no thanks, I’m not going from maining Gen in sf4 for 3 years to a lame ass shoto (no offense). I’d rather get fucked up the ass online while learning a more technical and unique character. I am already aware that fireballs and zoning are really not what they are in sf4, this is just so much faster and aggressive really. I think I am going to stick with Oro actually. It seems like not many people play him though, but after watching some japanese Oro players doing crazy ass juggle combos I’m sold on him LOL.
Oro is where it’s at… I haven’t picked anyone else since I got 3SOE…
s.mp (1 hit) xx df+k, s.mp (1 hit) xx df+k, s.mp (1 hit) xx Ex rocks, s.hk (6 times), s.mp (1hit) xx df+k, s.mp (1hit) xx df+k…
This combo…lol That’s all I can say…
Lol@Shotos not being technical or unique in this game.
its amazing how bad 3s players reading comprehension is
This should be enough motivation to start exploring your character’s combos, links, set ups and everything. I had mained Ken-sa3 in kaillera/mame days, since his combos are very solid, pretty easy to master, and you can link his super art from both low(c.lk,) or high (MP). Once you feel comfortable with Ken, you can invest time in your mix-up game. If you feel shotos are not fun anymore, but you do not want to spend a month practicing a BnB combo, try Yang -sa2/Chun-Li-sa2/Elena. Maybe Ibuki. Why not? She is a beast online.
If you have never played 3s before or your find hard to adapt to combos/set-ups with tricky timing during inputs, note that Yun-sa3/Hugo-sa1/Makoto-sa2/Urien-sa3 (propably some more chars) are not easy to use as mains. Just pick one of the more beginner-friendly characters.
However, this game gets complicated with mind game, zoning, spacing, and parrys. You may never miss a BnB combo in the training mode, but combos do not always make you a winner in 3rd strike. Try to turn off autopilot. Study the match-ups. Notice which moves have priority over others. More importantly, have fun.
At first glance Ryu Ken (and possibly Chunli) seem like the ‘easy to get into’ characters. I do not particularly care for shoto characters though, never have and probably never will.
I love that combo although I have a lot of trouble getting to connect the s.mp (1 hit) after the 6 s.hk juggle in the corner.
