From my experiences, only people who give me trouble when I use trish is dormammu, magneto, taskmaster and akuma.
I agree, Trish is pretty positive to most of the cast (especially wesker, that match is too sad to watch. The ol Hunch-back is helpless). Dormammu, Tasky and Magneto are the only problems I’ve had, really so far, and by problems I mean having to think while I play.
Magz, I feel like all i should do is stay alive until I can DHC. At the beginning, before he can ovary squeeze, if you make space and get into the air, always have a round trip out as first priority, just to deter him SJ EMDing. Land long enough to call a chip assist and get back up. That’s all I’ve been able to do safely, get an air low voltage hitcomfirm every so often and super or wait for him to hit a button and divekick his face (which is usually too risky it seems, still). Not sure, I’ve been able to rush magz with cover fire but thats probably they don’t have a firm grip on when to open her up after blocking a dive-kick.Right before he reaches 3 meters, I find a round trip opp and tag, or something similar.
Dorm, I’ll SJ and dash around to bait some pillars in the wrong direction, then divekick if it’s behind me, land and wave dash if it’s in front, try to get in close on his toes and head since he cant seem to do much right over his head. Anticipate Chaos Flames since they hit so much of the jump space. It’s really a clanky match for me.
Task, I never bothered to stay in on him. it seems pointless. When I did, I used a bit of divekick cancelling into Hop-scotch to make him waste Aegis. Not sure what to use against his Jumping H, haven’t even tried j.H at range. Punishing spidey swings, not getting shot outta the air by vertical hawk eyes, etc.
I’d like some insight on takin’ care of these 3~
Magz is a bad matchup, probably the worst. He wins zoning wars easily because of disruptor. That shit kills your assists real quick and kills you. Rushing him down is a bit better with IAD J.H and dive kicks, but he can shockwave and you’re back to stage 1. Just make sure you kill him if you manage to open him up. Don’t let this fucker live.
Dorm is even. If he commits to a pillar and you divekick, he can’t block unless he burns XF. Cancelling into chaotic flames will be a waste of meter as you’ll trade at worse and beat him clean at best. Divekick>DHC glitch and be done with him. Rushing him down relentlessly with IAD J.H>J.2H and low strings is the way to go here. If you have an assist that keeps them in place, you could call it, set up round trip and go for mix ups/ ambiguous crossups while they’re forced to block. Grounded projectiles from trish get bodied by chaotic flames, so don’t throw too much stuff on the ground.
Task isn’t too bad. You can try zoning but he’s content with whittling you down bit by bit with chip arrows and legion arrow supers since his stuff does more chip and he has more life. His arrows also cover pretty much the whole screen so flying and raining thunder down on him doesn’t work as well as against others.
I generally play a good mix of keep away and rtsd here. Zone till I get 1.5-2 bars, then try to get in so I can DHC glitch> dead task.
I wouldn’t bother trying to zone against Magneto. You can actually approach him pretty well if he’s trying to continually Disruptor on you. Her air dash height puts her above a ground Disruptor, and you can spot jumping ones pretty easily unless he’s doing them on his way up (which is pretty punishable if he whiffs).
Don’t forget that her :d: can slide under them as well I think, though I may be thinking of Unibeam or Plasma Beam.
I’d also just rush down Dorm and Taskmaster if they insist on zoning too. If you can’t zone them, get in their face. Trish has the tools to do it even though they get a lot more for hitting her then she does for hitting them.
Also, you can also forgo zoning and approaching with Trish and just kinda hang out for a while. A number of characters (like Taskmaster) can have trouble actually keeping up with her and pinning her down without being horribly obvious, so that’s an option also.
I moreso had a bad team matchup.
Trish doesnt have any bad character matchups. Lol. Especially not Chris are you kidding me?
You arent laying enough traps. Divekicks into traps. Strings into traps. Traps into traps.
The secret is knowing what traps are best for specific characters. But I’ll share that another time, you guys need more practice mode.
when i first saw that list of bad matchups, the first thing i thought was “wesker? are you serious?”
Wasker gets lamed out to death by Trish. He really can’t do anything about it until he catches you. But if he’s catching you, you’re not being lame enough.
The only match I can personally say are pretty “bad” for Trish are Phoenix and Mags. Phoenix is better at laming. Trish can’t get in/pin her down/get rid of balls without wasting a meter for Round Harvest. If she’s Dark Phoenix, good luck with that.
Mags distruptor is the only real problem there. If you get past that then it’s a matter of landing the hit before he does.
Don’t understand how people are having problems with Task. You lame him out better than he does you. Figure out his obvious lame pattern (usually jump back arrows) and work your way in. Air Round trip (with the C command followup) if you have to steal some damage.
Chris? Just rush that dude down.
Most of these “bad matchups” you’re going to play lame until they get annoyed to come after you or switch out to someone else.
Unless I need to get my eyes checked, why hasn’t anyone mentioned Deadpool? He can go toe to toe with Trish just fine. He can also evade a lot of her lame tactics and doesn’t even need to catch her. I actually fought a Trish player yesterday who just zoned all day and did nothing but dive kicks after that. All I really had to do was super jump a full screen away and use Deadpool’s guns. Also upwards “have guns will shoot” also can get Trish out of the air. Needless to say his zoning didn’t work too well for him.
And I seriously need to be more lame with Trish. I rush down way too much with her, and I rarely ever zone. I really should take advantage of her good matchups.
Deadpool is even more underplayed than Trish, so I don’t have a lot to say on the match-up. In general when I’ve have trouble zoning a character, I go back to trying to rush them down. I guess it’s a matter of navigating his zoning, though I don’t think he has a lot of answers to her divekick outside of his upward shot, which can be risky if she’s not in that exact lane of fire due to her range+speed.
The way I see it is, Deadpool can pretty much outzone Trish if you play it smart. As I said, super jumping and his guns can go toe to toe with Trish. If Trish throws out low voltages, you can do horizontal guns in the air. If Trish tries round trip in the air, upward guns also works (especially since round trip has considerable start up time). And her traps shouldn’t be a huge issue since you should be fighting a full screen away. As for her divekick, correct me if I’m wrong, but if she hits you while you are in mid air, Trish won’t be able to combo off it. Not to mention most Trish players are really predictable with the divekick. They’ll usually do it once Trish starts coming down after laying traps, shooting projectiles, etc. I usually do jumping upward guns. That way if I get hit, she can’t combo it. Again, I don’t have a ton of experience with Trish zoners, but the few that I fought weren’t able to do a who lot with my Deadpool on the screen.
And another tactic that sort of works is with Jill. It doesn’t do a whole lot of damage and it does require some meter. Her machine gun hyper can knock Trish out of the air. You can then DHC into another hyper (preferably a projectile hyper) and damage her that way.
I think Doom and Magneto are hard matchups for trish. I have trouble getting close to doom zoning with finger lasers and stuff.
It’s not the easiest thing to do, but she can convert a divekick against an airborne opponent into a combo. If you’re lowish to the ground, she needs to cancel it into Hopscotch. If she’s a little higher above the ground, then she can land and just go into :l::h:, and if she’s VERY high up, she has to Air Low Voltage -> Air Max Voltage.
The upward gun shots hit at the right angle to get Trish, but can he convert off it also? I wonder if an assist like Jam Session makes it possible.
Wesker - Agreed, but that’s for half the cast that he’s good against.
Dormammu - You must be out of yo mind. Trish’s rushdown potential shuts it down. this must be your keep away trish version of 1v1. get out of that version brah.
Zero - THIS IS NOT A BAD MATCHUP. Push-Block + Electrical Mine and/or Airplay prevents cross up options of Zero and makes him go into more defense gameplay on approaching.
Super Skrull - Thats a problem to you? Wave Dash Back + Lv 3 = GG
MODOK - …LOL? Free
Taskmaster: Yes he is very annoying to fight >_>
Captain America: snfkjsdnfgdfgfg was this thread only about her keep away cause this is no way a bad match up cause of that one thing he can do over hers.
Dante: He has so many options over her so its safe to say he is a bad match up for her.
Amaterasu: Everything Trish can do this do this dog has counters and apparently the defense game people have for this character really prevent executive rushdown play. So ill have to agree (unless the player sucks)
Spencer: Never fought that many spencers to realize the problems trish have.
Wolverine: Wrong. Trish counters Wolverine aggresive gameplay.
Deadpool - well right here i would say trish has problems but the fact trishs super can go through deadpools bullets make it bad for him also. i also think spamming the :qcf::l: works but thats if hes not already in the “im gunning you forevar” situation.
Magneto - TOTALLY AGREE. Magneto is Mag freaking annoying. His keep away stops both keep away and rush down and when he push blocks you, you feel kinda stupid cause hes gonna do it again. This definitely needs assist help to be even be considered a match up.
X-23 - Free
Phoenix - Regular Phoenix with no Dark Phoenix? Regular Phoenix = Free (place the :qcb: trap near the corner and move in front of it cause all phoenixs want to teleport places they cant see anyway and most phoenix players arent very smart nor fight many trish’s)
Arthur - Wave Dash, Wave Dash. Can’t do it? High Jump+ Fly Mode + Dive Kick that little midget
Trish’s negative matches are Magneto, Taskmaster, Ammy, and Dormammu to an extent. Most of her others are either neutral or positive. The others mentioned:
Wesker - Trish is actually one of the few matches that isn’t in Wesker’s favor. He doesn’t have good anti-air options, so Trish can zone him pretty easily. Her traps also eat a lot of his teleports.
Zero - Zero doesn’t have a lot of answers to Trish’s zoning. Most of the time, a trap will catch him as he’s dashing around in the air. If she gets caught by him, GG Trish, but it’s somewhat difficult for him to get in on her.
Skrull - wut. Skrull’s range options suck and his teleports are fairly slow. As long as you’re careful, Trish has an easy time against him.
MODOK - Can be annoying, but his anti-air options aren’t great. His best bet for that is Balloon Bomb, but that’s so slow that anyone can see it coming. She can rush him pretty easily anyway.
Cap - Easy, his only zoning option is limited to mid-screen. Stay back and keep pounding him with lightning.
Dante - Dante will either have to missiles her or teleport to where she is while she’s laying traps. Throw an air trap and stay near is and she can zone him pretty easily. Missiles aren’t great and teleports will get caught in the air trap. Somewhat neutral matchup, neither has a great advantage on the other.
Spencer - You just have to be patient and wait for him to screw up. Wait for him to try to reel you in and punish with lightning.
Wolverine - lol. She’s one of the few with a great matchup against him, it’s annoying as all hell to catch up to Trish with Wolverine.
Deadpool - Fairly neutral matchup. If she can get to him, she can rush him pretty well. Otherwise, he outzones her.
X-23 - Easier version of Wolverine.
Phoenix - Aside from L3XFDP which can’t even be considered a matchup since everyone has trouble against her, just throw out traps and hide in the corner. Maybe sometimes use a Round Harvest for good chip.
Arthur - It’s tough to fight him but I wouldn’t call him a negative matchup, per se. Abuse his lack of anti-air when he’s not gold and when he is, just turtle it out.
i got zoned out the other day bad i was using my trademark team of shulk trish and akuma and he was using authur sent haggar…this match was hell i know my team cant out zone him so i tried to rush in and got mawled. Authur covers too much of the screen with lances and has sent adding even more projectiles at one point there was almost 8 projectiles total on the screen…tried runaway with trish and she just got caught with air lances, and when i threw round trip he threw the axe. I switched to akuma and tried to beam him but there where just entirely too man projectiles on the screen to even get the time to use his beam hyper this match was defintely fustrating, granted my team cant compete with there zoning but man it seemed like it was hopeless, when i finally got in on him and killed authur sent came in and bodied me with the little health i had left so yea that team was hell
i’m offended by even the proposition of the idea that trish loses to wolvie and wesker
Reviving this thread in case people want to discuss Trish’s matchups in umvc3. Personally, I don’t think Trish has any matchups where she outright gets dominated. Her worst matchup is Magneto IMO and even that is about 6-4 at worst.
Mags, Dorm, Deadpool, Skrull IMO are still the biggest problems for Trish.
I don’t find deadpool to be too big of an issue. He easily outzones Trish but he can’t really keep her from divekicking and rushing him down once you learn the angle of his diagonal gun shots.
I also forgot Hawkeye. That can be hell for Trish.
