Trip guard is where you can benefit off an enemy’s jumping attack by attacking with a low hit boxed move. If an enemy jumps toward you with a Hk…You can do a low hitting move (IE c.mk, c.hk, etc.) and it will be a guranteed hit. This happens because of the fact that the opponent must recover from the jumping attack. However if an opponent jumps in and does no attack, the low hitting move that you put out will not hit because the opponent does not need to recover from any move…
In example:
Sagat jumps in with a hk, Chun li can c.mp, into a special…
this is possible because the move hits low, and Sagat needs to recover from the jumping hk.
Do I have the concept of trip guard or not? Anyways with that said, I had some questions about Trip guard properties:
-After a PARRIED jump in, is it possible for me to trip guard my opponent? You would think it would be practically guranteed being that I have frame advantage. However I noticed that when I parry a Jump in…and immediately go into a c.hk, my opponent is some how able to block it. Why is that?
-I sad that it was a “Guranteed hit” is this true? Or am I mistaken?
-What are some crouching normals that can put trip guard to use?
-Can trip guard be taken advantage of just as much as 3s? Because it seems like whenever an opponent jumps at me with a hk…Ken can almost ALWAYS c.mk xx Shippu his way out of it.
If you guys could answer some of my questions that’d be great.
No it isn’t. Trip guard is for the person jumping. It is the feature that allows the jumper to block (i.e. GUARD) a sweep (i.e. TRIP) when landing from a jump.
And its not guaranteed either, the only thing they cant do is block.
edit: meaty attacks are good for hitting landing opponents with their trip guard disabled… more specifically ones that hit low and only low (wont hit them in the air and make them bounce). A lot of characters crouching forwards are good for this…
Okay so the trip guard isn’t guranteed, thats good to know, I don’t want to go waisting Level 3’s. Can anyone answer my first question however…it still confuses me that a person can block low even after I parry their jump in.
um, if you time it right they shouldnt be able to block. I find at certain heights of jumpins i cant do anything (not even an invincible move) if my jumpin is parried. IE terry parry s.fierce xx ARE YOU OK?! However this might just be a timing issue because it would be fairly strict…
trip guard is kind of a misleading term for CvS2. To me just calling it recovery time makes more sense. When a character jumps and attacks, they simply have two frames of recovery time when they land. This means you can hit them high also if you want… though the timing is harder since you have a chance of hitting them out of the air.
Also, those two frames of recovery time are totally uninterruptible by the player. It IS possible to punish a Sagat trying to do super jump whiff roundhouse into hotfoot, but the 2 frame timing is pretty strict so a lot of people get caught by it. Just think of it as another form of roll super.
