I mean, TFGM already spilled the glass yo. and if what you told me is true, people have a right to know whether its before or after EVO. its not that hard to assume that the hotel EVO is being held at made deals with the one in charge of EVO (like letting them run EVO for free, ect). and prolly the reason EVO is off the strip is because the hotels on the strip dont need any more customers than what they already have on a busy summer weekend. otherwise why promote EVO in Vegas then have it 20 minutes away from the strip? Morongo (a fairly nice hotel/casino) is only around 20-30 minutes away from Cal Poly. the thought of someone making my broke and busy ass drive all the way to Vegas so they can gain more profit angers me.

Why is that a bad thing? organizers lose money on this shit all the time, so if they’ve figured out a way to increase the revenue without too much of a price increase, more power to them. Vegas is just as expensive for me as Cali, so I honestly couldn’t care less about the locals who don’t get to go and complain because they have to spend money like the rest of us this year.

Just to touch on the subject of over pricing the dvds. Weren’t they like 20-30 dollars? dvd-r’s themselves are like 3 bucks and you pay 20-30 for a dvd? Um, hate to spoil the newest drama, but SRK/EVO has never been profitable. Cannons have lost money on the tournament every single year, and the dvd/tshirt sales have not made up the difference. All this time, they’ve been running things on negative out of their own pockets.
I don’t know what’s going on this year with Wizard/Watson running things. But even if you are going to act like it’s a bad thing to try to stop Evo from being a financial failure for once, at least don’t talk shit on the previous years’ efforts cuz that was all for love of the game. As if the Cannons had nothing better to do than waste a weekend losing thousands of dollars.

- Because there’s no other way to watch these videos. (Anyone sharing them for free is an asshole. It’s one thing to pirate major corporation release. It’s another thing entirely to shoot your own community in the foot by stealing from people who are trying to help you out.)

- Because spending “way too much money” on luxuries and toys is something everyone does anyway, so why try to act above it all?
Exactly, if this was a profitable business capcom would still be making games and probably running the tournaments themselves. They lose money but what I don’t understand is why them trying to get some kinda money to make up for the loss is so wrong (and they hardly ever do make a profit). They aren’t in this for the money, if you are then you are then you’re one crappy businessman. Hell I’d be happy if they made a profit because that helps fund the next tournament. One day yall are going to wake up and there won’t be a next “big” tournament and this whole “tournaments should be free gifts to the community” attitude sure as hell didn’t help. Really no disrespect but you guys are only looking at the money they are pulling in and don’t see all the money they put out for the community. You probably realize this aswell but simply organizing a tournament in of itself is a huge contribution to the community.
Any kind of profit made by people in the community always gets blasted on by players but I can’t figure out why. Really, no disrespect but do you guys know how much it costs? Since when do we tell people exactly how much they should give back to the community and they never said it was going to be free and EVEN then they lose money.
Seriously though if you give 50 bucks (as a gift) to the community and want to sell a few t-shirts to get 25 bucks back and I go up to you and call you a selfish bastard how would you feel? It’s a heavy handed example but I think it roughly represents this situation.
I don’t think its a big deal, if you even assume that evo has 0 expenses (which it doesn’t), and only 1 person on staff (which it doesn’t), it would be barely worth anyone’s time to run it. If you have the skills to run evo/srk than you probably have the skills to make 10x as much elsewhere. Anyone that is crazy enough to put up with all this and still run a SF tourney has to have some obvious love for the game.
I have the opposite view I guess, some people seem like they would be happier if SF was a hopeless money draining hobby, so much so that news of a profit would be a scandal instead of a step forward. I actually wish it was more profitable to run SF tournies and run SRK type sites, then maybe more people would do it. Personally I would love to work on SF things instead of jobs and contracts that pay real money.
And about the DVDs, IIRC unless your attending the event with a contract in place, all the matches are fair game, otherwise everyone who got a top place could complain.
The base of this whole thing is that for as long SRK has been around evolution is slow, and the reason for that is people like Watson who only think about themselves which staunches the growth of your community as a whole. Not to say that SRK Admin does this but one bad apple spoils the bunch.
I had the option to expose this last year but for the protection of SRK like someone posted I said nothing. Upon doing that, the Empire was ridiculed and shitted on…Hard! Now we’re all fed up of it, and for what we have done but for everyone not to have recognized it is even more fucked up. So shit has hit the fan.
For those that said I am doing this for the business part of it, you all seem to have only read that part, but forgot to include the part when I said the Empire has to eat soon and the money it makes it can put back in the community. Good shit though. Gamers have to be aware as to what is going on in there community. So many gamers from SRK AIM me to ask me this and that, and say what they think of SRK to be wrong but very few of them will post. The Empire was built because of some of these reasons. To give power to the gamers. That is what I meant “You will all see what I have done” But then again even with logs people want to make it out that I am selfish…
I am nothing like the cannons who can do this off a love and have the money to do it consistantly. Its the opposite for me…I have the love, but Money I have to work Hard for just to burn it back into a community that does not give a shit about the Empire. I can understand some of you guys when you say “Fuck TFGM” but the Empire does do their thing to help out. I would appreciate that. K. Jordan understands the point I am trying to show.
