Traveling to Japan soon... How do arcades work (tokens, line-ups, etc.)?

I haven’t been here in ages and I remember that there was a great Japan thread but it seems to have died off. Anyways, I know that there are tons of resources out there, but I’m specifically interested in the arcade scene. I don’t know if I’ll need their equivalent of quarters, or if it’s bills, or if it’s some sort of points card. Any tips or suggestions are appreciated! BTW I’ll probably just be in Tokyo. If you recommend a specific arcade for SFIV or 3S then I am thankful.

PS: Any other general tips are useful, too. Also, NO I AM NOT AN OTAKU JAPANOPHILE NERD~! This is an extended business trip.

Nigga please.

You shouldn’t go there with the mindset of playing games at the local arcade. You need to understand that you’re going there to solve their population crisis.

Picture of cat is somewhat related:

Can you bring me back a used pantsu!

Pro tip 1) be sure to say fuck profusely when trying to communicate with the players there.

If there’s one english word that all asians know, it’s “fuck you”

Pro tip 2) Yakiniku’s are godlike

Pro tip 3) bitches love french fries

lol dude, just bring yen, its not very complicated. most games are either 50 or 100 yen, and theres always change machines that will change 1000 yen bills to 100 yen coins, and 100 yen coins to 50 yen coins. lining up is very informal.

Game Spot Versus in Nishi Nippori is the best 3s arcade in the world.

I’ll be going to Japan in about a week, and I’ll be following this while I’m over there.

Can he bring you back a asian wife?

fyi, Shibuya Kaikan is closed

I’m going, too. Want to meet up and eat ice cream together?

Yeah, I remember the thread on here when that happened.

Pretty sad, I had wanted to go there for the longest time.
