hey if blanka really gets a +5 overhead that ultra aint lookin too hard. I takes what i can gets. I mean, at least his low short to stand jab is 2 frames, imagine being a vega player!
I like the optimism in the thread, but I feel some dejavu from the original AE changes when some people were going gaga over the rockcrusher buff. I’ll admit though that this time, at least Blanka got nothing but buffs (albeit minor).
Regarding the buffed OH though, the only real reason that it can be successful now is because most people don’t even know it exists or don’t look out for it because it is so slow and has no strong comboability (and thus rarely used). If the move can be easily linked to ultra, then I am sure that people will successfully learn to counter, since it is still so slow. Think about the first time you played encountered chun’s hazanshu - probably hard to block at first, but after seeing it a few times, it becomes second nature to block/counter correctly.
As for elitists that claim that ball rollback nerf only affected “newbs”, I strongly disagree. HP Ball solidified Blanka’s ground/footsie game. Sure many characters could counter it, but a good amount needed meter. Not only does HP ball do more hit damage and block damage, but it is faster, and even up close, that extra millisecond could mean the difference between hitting your opponent and getting reaction ultra’d. I think the shoto matchup was most affected by this nerf.
Anyways, Blanka is what the devs make him (probably will end up mid-low tier). More power to those who think of creative ways to use him. I really was hoping for one good buff rather than several minor buffs. Buffed cr. lk comes to mind (can you imagine having a hit-confirmable combo off crouch tech OS a la Dictator?).
Making your opponent make decisions on wakeup leads to them making the wrong decisions.
I outlined the overhead flow chart already, but I don’t see why it won’t work.
HP/MP roll nerfs condemned blanka to lower mid tier.
Still just a loc test we’ll have to see how it pans out. However if HP ball is giving a knockdown that is huge considering fs.LP xx ball is a very excellent 3 frame punish. So that is a significant buff to me. You can punish balrog dash punches, fei’s rekkas, etc. Into a KD that is really good. The rockcrusher one is ok but really nothing major i don’t care about that one. THis still doesn’t do much for blankas place in the game i’m interested to see what is done with fei long/twins at this point. As it currently stands i don’t see him moving up in the tier list really. His game is about solid defense and poking and all these changes are just somewhat addressing that.
If yun gets some slight nerfs blanka is going to crush him.
So i’m having issues understanding. It says EX ball causes KD. It doesnt’ say UPball it says EX ball… does this mean both hori and up cause KD? if this is the case then that is a great buff. One that i greatly welcome. Really don’t get the rockcrusher thing… I’d rather have a better throw range but shrug.
What does slight mean? That matchup is hard because of his dive kicks and normals i don’t really think those will get nerfed though.
Sorry im spamming. But i just realized that the KD portion only comes in the point where the ball is FADC cancelled.
Meaning i don’t think you can do a fs.LP xx ball as a long ranged punish and get a KD. If that’s the case then lol thanks for the tinniest buff ever rofl.
Maybe we should start some sort of petition to apply this KD buff to ex up ball. It would be the tiiiiniest step away from what is already planned but would make such an enormous difference.
Bit cheeky if we’re getting nothing but buffs, but still. Having a wake up game would be pretty cool.

I honestly don’t think his divekicks or normals are really a problem, it’s just the mixup game that sucks, and ex shoulder.
yeah certain things you can punish because of the property of far LP that moves you forward farther when you cancel off of it.
things like 2 hit yun target combo would lead to a knockdown, but you aren’t going to be punishing rekkas with a knockdown for sure unless the fei player is an idiot.
I’ve been playing Hsien Chang a lot online and my major issue is i can’t do anything against his blockstrings at all. his moves have so much frame advantage and really good hitboxes. I don’t think i care too much about his ex moves. EX punch doesn’t bother me except that it allows him to start spamming c.LP c.MP on me which are insane. If i keep the fight at mid range i beat him, if he gets in i’m just holding downback forever.
Either way I do think the matchup is even and some changes to yun could make it in blankas favor.
So have the mechanics for rockcrusher changed? If you have to charge the move, maybe that means that you don’t have to hold back or at least forward for it to come out. Be nice to be able to do cl mp and hold back at the same time.
About the first 2 frames of Roll. First frame he hits with the back of his head. Second frame he hits with his upper back. Third frame he hits with his lower back. Most combos look like they will work for knockdown. Some opponent hurtboxes differ though. Looks like j hk > cl mp > cr mk > hp roll would kd and cause 337 damage. If you could follow that with a juggle, Blanka can finally do some damage! Maybe a close to 40% combo with no meter or maybe 1 bar.
That combo is harder to FADC/super-cancel in AE though. I hope they fix this.
Anyone have pics of the roll? Maybe they animation for frame 1 and 2 are the same and isn’t til 3 that it moves to the next pic in the animation. I hope not.
But seriously what are you guys talking about? fadc distance horiball KD, combo afterwards, juggable state “launcher”- then what are you gonna do? jab x ball x fadc > jab x elec “for shame mullah” cause that’s definitely out if OPP is airborne u can do it now tho [counterhit]. truth is your options are limited to one followup after that fadc, two meters to tack on ultra (which is pretty good in itself i must say now that im typing it), super, or a special. Biggest problem with this scenario is wait for it… claw yep given a launcher off sky high, claw has move properties to abuse the situation burn one mere meter for ex barcelona dive;izuna for 110+200=310 cause you threw that fireball being that this sounds ridiculous still have my suspicions about “blowback” might not be what u think it is.

hey, i said i dont think balls or sky high claw will knockdown, so my combo would work if it’s just +frames added. i may have given up blanka for 10 months but i haven’t gone completely stupid, yet!
So if the knockdown change to hp ball happens, we’d no longer be able to super cancel it right? Just use lp or mp ball instead I guess.
