Translated AE2012 Blanka changes

Yeah me and Lau both noticed that too. I haven’t played in a month so I wasn’t sure. Glad it’s getting noticed by more ppl. It seems very usable now.

Yup def noticed that too, although I wish you could still release with up-back as well like in vanilla instead of just straight up

PUrposeful Firestarting Post:

I think the fp ball knockdown is shit. Except in very specific character matches where its hard to do neutral mp, jab, elec combos, in almost every possible way electricity combos are better than ball combos.

  1. The distance for FP ball to knockdown is shit. Its so damn close, that If its further than the distance required to land a fp elec combo, its by a fraction, and relativley null.

  2. FP balls have a huge execution requirement, where if fucked up, you face mad dmg. Elec combos, once you figure out a strat that works for you, are pretty easy, and if u fuck up relatively safe. Yes if the elec whiffs, they can punish, but the difficulty to punish a whiffed elec vs a blocked fp ball are astronomical.

  3. Dmg is roughly the same.

  4. Knockdown position after knockdown fp ball and elec are roughly the same, if anything slightly in elec favor.

EX ball:

Im still agnostic on this one. not sure if the setups and dmg are worth the three bars. If good setups for overhead can be brought in, this may be worth it, whereas the normal fp ball is still shit.

Overhead:
Just fucking awesome. Hitting a lot of ultras with it. The jab link is really easy, and shockingly, more often than not a fp ball after jab doesnt knockdown. I’m shocked. My only problem is after low rh knockdown, I often dont get enough charge time for the ultra after overhead. Just gonna have to work on setups.

These observations made after about 100 matches last night.

I would also like to add that if overhead timing is not meaty, then the setup is absolutely worthless. People will mash throw, uppcut, jab, etc. So the difficulty in applying the overhead will be to practice setups that allow time to charge ultra while also ensuring the first hit of the overhead is meaty.

I can’t seem to find the overhead setups ves made awhile back. I thought they were somewhere in the lab thread, but ho hum.

I will say this: Low rh, dash, overhead doesnt seem to allow me time to charge.

^^ Also tried sweep > dash > overhead > U1 also last night without success. Only tested it vs Honda though.

I’m mashing dash after the sweep so that may be affecting the outcome.

Has anyone found any good ex ball folow ups in the corner?

potential hidden nerf:

was reading the Rose forum and some guy said he was able to sweep Blanka’s MP ball on block… i don’t remember Rose doing that before… so either it’s a buff on Rose, nerf on Blanka or… something that wasn’t discovered before until now?

-LAU

A lot of characters have mp ball punishes if the ball is done kind of deep in.

I cant imagine they would nerf balls even more, they are already so nerfed from super.

not many comments on ex upball yet, is it totally sweet even with the block nerf - - Do you find yourself using ex upball more or less in 2012?

when you do ex ball fadc sweep, the sweep doesn’t seem to make contact on the first frame vs.some characters, this lets you setup meaty cl.strong to sweep by whiffing a jump attack.

You can do other weird meaties too because different characters get hit at different points.

Anyone have any luck with FADC to slide? I’ve hit it a grand total of once vs. boxer and thats it. I know it doesn’t work on pretty much anyone. Need to chart out everyone fadc to fierce elec works on too.

Re exball fadc slide; Got it to work with Dan in the corner in training a few days ago, corner probably doesn’t count though. Had to wait a few frames too. Will test later on rest of cast.

I think you just have to pause a frame or 2 for slide.

I’m just glad I can punish some moves with ball where electricity isn’t possible.

Why would we want to use slide rather than low rh after ex ball? isnt dmg relatively similar? And positioning of low rh is pretty good.

I think Hori Ball is not shit, not awesome but not shit because for close punish, it can be useful for combos like : Crouch LK x2, Stand LP xx Hori Ball HP or Crouch MK, Stand LP xx Hori Ball HP where Elec will whiff, no ?

slide does 10 more damage, but more importantly it does 50 more stun.

also I just want to know what everything works on, and to know as much as I can about this character, EXCELSIOR.

Far quick punish like Standing Jab xx Ball HP are very strange, for example i punish the ex Sobat of DJ and sometimes, it makes a KD, sometimes no… WTF.

So you can get pressure after hp ball knockdown in the corner.

Dash forward has you about +3/4 it feels like so you can go for low short/forward

You can also do a meaty slide, which is interesting against fei long for instance because dps will whiff and he can’t punish the slide on block.

Overhead Rock Crusher ~ Crouching Forward xx HP Ball works on everyone, except Standing Guile & Juri, like Overhead Rock Crusher ~ U1 but i don’t know if it’s an useful link ? It does 264 damages and the link is not easy, and it doesn’t knockdown.

Overhead Rock Crusher ~ Standing Jab xx HP Ball does 224 damages and the link is more more easy, knockdown on certain characters and others no, depends if standing/crouching, and works on everyone.

Ex.HoriBall FADC Slide does not work on:

Ken, Ryu, Ibuki, Makato, Juri, Bison, EvilRyu, Blanka, Zangief, Rufus, ElFeurte and THawk.

Ex.HoriBall FADC Slide does work on:

Honda, Dudley, Seth, Gouken, Akuma, Gen, Dan, Sakura, Oni, Yun, ChunLi, Dalsim, Abel, Viper, Sagat, Cammy, DeeJay, Cody, Guy, Hakan, Yang, Guile, Vega, Balrog, FeiLong, Adon and Rose.

All tested: Standing, Crouching, Midscreen and Corner… and when breaking FocusAttacks close.

On the first pass of the test, Balrog did not get hit by the slide… but remembering that Ves said Balrog ‘did’ get hit by it, I went back and tried him again. This time I got it to work alright, by slightly delaying the slide. Then I tried this new test on the other whiff characters (that failed the first test) and they still did not get hit by the slower slide.

Not being pleased about Blanka failing both tests (quick slide and slow slide), I went back and tried for ages to hit him with the slide. Nothing.

All that said, the other characters who failed both tests might be possible to hit with their own uniquely timed slides, but I did not fancy testing that myself. Soz.
Anyway above you can find out who it definitely does hit, standing/crouching and midscreen/corner.

Overhead Rock Crusher ~ Standing RoundHouse works on Rufus.

That works of loads of people.

Now see if you can cancel it to super on somebody…

Overhead, fs.mk hits on fatties. Overhead, cr.mk xx super (all types) works on nobody.
