I think Seth is 5th lol. i wouldn’t call him B-tier.
I have like 4 wins(I’m king of 2nd/3rd place), but I don’t think I’ve even played in 20 tournaments with Blanka. Slightly under. I should get out to play more in general, no tournaments all of last month I think other than that small one where i lose to Snake Eyez.
Who do you think those high level American Blankas are?
I’m thinking Blanka is between even and -5 vs. the cast as a whole. However, I think he’s really metagame dependent in that if people played characters based only on how good they are Blanka would be in trouble with a field of Fei/Yun/Yang/Seth/Viper/Mak/Ken/Sagat/Gief etc. having to rely on beating twins/viper/gief is just not going to be consistent. However people play the entire cast and Blanka has matchups that are just really really easy.
I take Taku’s take on the Balrog matchup. It sucks, but if you can unblockable him you should win cause your downback owns rog up. It’s an equalizer that can turn the tide because 350 damage backthrows HURT. Also 90% of these rogs are average. I’m not going to be scared of anyone really unless it’s PR Rog I have to play because for the most part American Balrog is unspectacular.
I’ll call someone high level in the usa when they can make top 8 at any tournament that has top players at it. I haven’t seen it yet so we all have some work to do.
I have no idea who the 2 or 3 top blanka players are. I’m more using it as the royal “we” type usage as in the hypothetical top best. I wish i could place hiro in the list, but I dont think he even plays blanka, and same goes for viscant. I would like to put ves on the list just from knowledge but i havent seen enough footage to make much of an opinion. Same goes for the rest of the folks on the forum, most of what is posted, umm, is for feedback purposes and frankly is not very good. Even many japanese blanka players are ass from what i have seen.
I’ve seen some interesting things from an east coast blanka, whose name escapes me at the moment. I like their turtle style.
I’m probably on the list just from tournament wins, but the sample pool here is small enough where I dont think it matters much. In other words, my victories may not necessarily be because i am good at playing blanka but rather due to people not knowing how to fight blanka, or knowing and fucking up regardless. I havent gone to many large regional tournies bc im out in the middle of the fucking ocean and poor, so various tournament vacations are a waste of money. I travel to tournaments I think i can win.
Yeah if there were more locals I would play those.
I need to get out to WNF like i’ve been saying for awhile but I haven’t been able to procure a ride and now I’m having an issue with my bank where I can’t get any money out due to some fraud.
I’m gonna go to a few out of staters coming up. last time i went to one i got top 24 i think at Devastation but i played balrog… Hopefully i can rep well !
Didn’t OT basically claim he just copies Poongko? (not that everyone doesn’t copy everybody else) I’m not saying Seth isn’t great, I’m just saying that he was more or less slept on and even still calling him fifth is somewhat of a bold statement imo.
I think that with the development and discovery of new technology and setups that people haven’t seen yet (with very solid play mixed in) a lot of the middle characters can rise to the occasion.
Seth will become more easy with safe exupball on hit, and also horiball on combo too, so maybe a future 5-5.
The biggest issues vs Seth is he can punish a lot of things on hit, and you’re dead in corner or on your wake up… i think this is one of the match ups will become more easily in 2012.
So who cares if he copied someone, he’s still been playing Seth for a long time, adding things another good player does just makes you stronger. It’s not really bold, I have the same top 5 as a lot of people.
They don’t have the tools to be perfectly honest. A character like Rog isn’t just all of a sudden just going to have something discovered about him that advances his gameplan. He’s fairly straightforward and basically does what he is designed to do. Seth has every option you could realistically ask for.
Anyways I said Seth was 5th before Evo, I’m mad smart.
Mmh, yeah I’ve played it from the Sagat side, I generally lose if I get dash ultra’d, but am otherwise okay.
Jesus, do you know what reading comprehension is? What college do you go to? The reference to the nerf is only about the additional 5 frames of recovery, not the upball as a whole. I’ve stated before that the upball as a whole is still a huge buff.
In regards to punishes, I already stated one, but I’ll give you more. In addition to those 5 additional frames potentially being the difference in being just swept or charge ultra’d, it can also be the difference in getting hit with a level 3 focus combo, or a full jump-in combo. Think about punishing LP shoryu vs Gouken’s tatsu. Granted Gouken’s tatsu has ridiculous recovery, the point still stands. There is something called damage mitigation - have you heard of it? Not all punishes are equal.
In reference to my Blanka, I’m no Taku and I don’t play too much, but I am still good enough to be in the 4000+ PP range. I will admit that most of my games are probably against “online scrubs”, but I don’t travel to tourneys, nor do I have the time to. In addition, even if I were to win 1st place in every single SF tourney around the world, I would still make significantly less money than I do from my job.
Since you are a student, and you don’t seem to get it, I will give you the “answer key” to what my points are:
It is highly unlikely Blanka will be Top 5
The recent 5 frame of recovery nerf, while not a major nerf by any means, is still a nerf and was not really warranted, as even without that change, Blanka would still likely end up mid-tier.
The next time you start an argument, first ascertain what the central point is of the material you are refuting. Then when you are ready to make an argument, think about what you are going to say, and if you realize that you have no relevant points whatsoever, don’t bother hitting the submit button.
I think it would be best to refrain from the anger in these threads. The whole “do you know how to read?” is just a bit juvenile =|
We are trying to get our blanka games to the next level. Not badger each other about what our education is, i doubt this is a way to help other players improve themselves.
That being said it isn’t the additonal 5 frames… The knockback on block has them directly in front of you i thought? So now they can dash forward and do basically whatever they want. Raw ultra will probably punish all of it. Currently some of the cast cannot raw ultra blocked exupball. But i think now they can 5 extra frames or not. Correct me if i’m wrong.
well it was already -21? So outside of range issues thats raw ultra for everyone. The characters who would have had to dash up to punish with their ultras now have more leeway.
Other than trying to bust a combo or a psychic counter when would you use a ex vertical roll other than AA or wakeup? You can use hp up ball to bust a combo or tick throw attempt.
I do have to apologize for the angry tone of my post, it was very early morning when I posted it and I’m worse off posting things when I’m shitface drunk than if I’m dead tired.
I guess my post was actually asking a question (in a dick way) of is there a situation where blocking ex-upball NOW is a drastically improved scenario for any character? I get that it’s a minor nerf to the ball’s net buff, I guess I just want to know if there’s anything I’m missing, I would expect that anybody who can raw ultra punish this on block will do so, while anybody else will continue not to.
In summation, yeah I should have gone about it better, but are there any ultra/super/huge combo punishes that weren’t possible that now are because of this five frame window?
I apologize too as it is not usually my philosophy to attack people. Regarding punishes, taking into account the rollback nerf in addition to the 5 frame recovery, I’m fairly certain there will be punishes that wouldn’t be possible w/o the 5 frames, but since we are dealing with two variables we’ve never actually experienced, in addition to me being too lazy to do the math (that is what ves is for) it is hard to say. At the very least though, it will give people more time to think about what happened and how to react, which would make a difference (albeit minor) in high level play. One potential example may be that Blanka may now have time to do jump hk, cl mp -> ultra 1 now as opposed to raw ultra 1. At max meter that is something like 530 damage vs 500. Not a big difference, but that 30 damage can make all the diff. I’m actually surprised I don’t see that combo more often as it is a two frame, hit confirmable ultra link, when combined with plinkable ultra 1, can be done pretty much 100% of the time if you practice. And even if they block, cl. mp has such great frame advantage.
