I tend to agree that blanka will climb up the rankings dramatically, simply bc his major weaknesses have been patched.
Ball can be safe, upball can be safe. Comeback damage with a usable overhead.
We will see soon enough, for all we know crapcom will give us all the finger and remove all the buffs after the next round. That’s what ive come to expect.
I’ve been thinking about what made blanka so good in ST, and so bad in sf4. All blankas special moves are also punishable in ST, but he had 3 hit dizzies. And his throw was unbreakable. I wouldnt mind having shitty specials in sf4 if I had ST blanka. Just saying.
You know the more i think about it… the better it really gets for blanka…
like yesterday… i was playing makoto… i was cornered… she was doing these stupid frame advantage move… if i punish with jab xx ball… i get hit back … it’s kinda ridiculous… but now… when cornered… if i do jab xx ball punish… they get knocked down…
that’s really a big game changer …

Except Blanka was low tier in ST, wasn’t he? I admit he did have strengths, but he was still weak compared to the cast as a whole. That is why Komoda was so hype.
Yup. Corner will not be so scary anymore, neither will wakeup. I think the real hard work though, will be finding the exact distance and types of combos that guarantee the hori ball knockdown. I think that distance is gonna be really sketchy and will cause blanka players to go for shorter closer combos rather than longer links.
the changes certainly have the potential to make blanka a real contender. Im very positive, really looking forward to this. Also waiting for all my dreams to be shattered by some stupid fluke. lolz
I believe the distance for knockdown ball = distance you can FADC the ball. I read that in the earlier change log.

So short short jab xx hp ball knocks down every character if you do crossup into meaty short.
However j.hk, st.mp, cr.mk xx hp ball will be character specific.
Yeah and also blanka in ST his upball was active on the first frame. he could escape gief/thawk.

I tested in training mode, so punish things like Dee Jay’s sobat or Makoto’s ex hayate with far stand jab xx Ball = NO KD.

Out of all the alpha/beta footage, has there been any video of close up ex-hori ball or ex-hori ball -> FADC?
if you can’t get a knockdown with jab xx ball and the character can punish you back on hit… punishing with ex upball might be another idea… (if the punish isn’t like a 3 frame punish)

I find it laughable people are questioning viscants views on the ex up ball buff. Blanka has NEVER had a reversal this good without a roll cancel glitch. The buff on hp ball was welcomed with more hype than ex upball knockdown. This is crazy IMO. There is onething I know about blanka in sf4 and it’s that when you get knocked down you have to wake up blocking. If The fear of ex up ball stops random c.lk pressure on wakeup then that buff has done it’s job IMO. Ii agree with viscant whole hearted when he says this is the biggest buff any character has got in the sf4 series period. I don’t know how long you guys have been playing sf but blanka with a knockdown reversal is borberline broken because blanka tools lends you to play turtle style If his knockdown blows you back like his electr this might make blanka top tier! You mean I can do ex upball and knock some across the screen? LOL. I might be arosed right now!!!
I think I had a mind jizz about how this will change blanka standing in the tier list. I think they will quickly renerf blanka just before evo 2k12. There is no way blanka will be top tier for long. Blanka will be no less than jusT below the top tier IMO. Rejoice blanka players! The day of the dog has come!
that’s my point on the hp ball and ex upball having knockdown. It truely makes blanka a character to fear. No longer can you use the bulldog or blind rush down blanka tactic because now you won’t get free damage off getting hit. This is so huge in blanka’s meta game I don’t think you guys see how much this will improve blanka’s meta game. He will own all characters without a projectile for free. N. IMO the rogfie long Honda sakura Dudley match ups have gotten closer to 5-5 match up IMO with these buffs. All of his traditional good match ups have gotten better now. Gief should be 8-2 and troll hawk should be 9-1 now IMO. Seriously unless they make blanka’s river run worst or nerf his c.mp I don’t see why blanka won’t be top 7 in 2012 version.
I don’t see why blanka won’t outright beat Dudley/Sakura. I think he already beats sak, and he’s slight disadvantage vs. Dudley.
I dont see how these changes affect the honda match much. and honda got lp anti air headbutt back.
That match is still gonna be gay. 2 turtlers, turtleing, except honda hands are better at chip.
Most other matches though, i agree will be much much better. People in my local community are now all telling me how they will all play blanka just to spite me. good for the lolz
