Transformers TV/Movie Thread - WAR FOR CYBERTRON: EARTHRISE (A Netflix Original) Streaming Dec 30!

So should i track down the machinima show then watch this or does it matter?

HELL NO! That was a dumpster fire.

This show is unrelated to that series. If you happen to watch it, that set a new low for how bad a cartoon can be in all honesty. Siege is at least decent but it’s not a must watch. The best way to describe it is someone put the show’s premise on the toys’ boxes and you’re watching it play out in the land of imagination.

Like I said, this show is just OK.

It’ll be interesting to see if he comes back.

Yup. You can watch the whole season in less than 3 hrs.

Let me know what you think.

It was okay. I didn’t love it or hate it. It honestly felt like a pre-cursor to the G1 series.

Summary

Jet Fire was my favorite of the characters in this mini-arc. I did like some of the character arcs though. The Impacter and Mirage interaction and Impacter’s arc were highlights. Of course Jetfire’s as well.

The thing that bothered me most is that the WFC game did this so much better. This precursor to the war origin is being done ad nauseum. They should have gone even further back to show us all those relationships/moments they kept talking about.

Also, this may be my least favorite version of Optimus Prime.

Agreed. Prime was so inept. I get that they wanted to show him as an inexperienced leader but they didn’t do a good job of showing why the other Autobots followed him.

Now, I’m good with the characterization of Megatron. I would be ok with Marnocha’s voice being Welker’s successor.

LOL but spoilers.

And yeah, it was almost movie Jazz regard afterwards

Wait for the new one. It’s pretty obvious Earthrise smokescreen was what they were planning all along, and the seige version was just there to dupe fans out of more cash.

A friend recently lured me back into this stupid world of buying robot toys, and honestly - I find some of them are pretty damned awesome; but also as an adult now - it’s pretty shocking how absolutely brazen the re-releases / repaints are.

That said, I’m still salty the newest Autobot Mirage looked a bit dumb. My nostalgia calls to me as Mirage was the first Transformer I ever received years ago from a dearly departed family member. I can’t recall many childhood firsts as so many other people can, but that one sort of stings.

It was the transparent cockpit that put me off. The Decepticon repaint actually looks a bit better, but I can’t bring myself to buy a Decepticon / purple Mirage. :stuck_out_tongue:

That new Cliffjumper is awesome as hell though.

The new '86 movie figures are looking great as well.

It’s not stupid  - It can be stupid expensive.

It depends what we’re talking about exactly. If it’s in regards to Hasbro/Takara’s recent, re-release ruthlessness? They are STILL wrong for that. Within like 5-6 months of each other we got the Datsun bros in Siege…and then earthrise. And as decent as the Siege versions were, they don’t hold a candle to the Earthrise versions.

It’s clear Hasbro was being devious and intentionally created two designs from the start, and put the least impressive out first as “cybertronian” versions. Then put the GOOD versions they knew everybody would want instead, to make bank on the same characters twice, back-to-back. It was an epic dick move.

The siege versions were Legit decent but nobody, absolutely NOBODY, would have picked them over the Earthrise releases. Hasbro knows damn well.

Although not all of Hasbro’s deviousness paid off. Because the Earthrise Megatron is by far the LEAST enticing of that mold. The best ones were 35th Cel-shaded Megs and the Netflix Silver Megatron. And Earthrise “skinny jeans” Prime also falls a bit short to the Siege version. Particularly the slick 35th Cel-shaded release.

Edit: Although something tells me that Earthrise Prime and Megs were also, part of their plans. And we’ll be seeing a WAAAAY better Prime and (Gun)Megatron one of these days soon…

Kingdom Ultra Magnus is dissapointing. Just saw him in the video below and he just looks like a lazy, slight redesign. The only legit change was to the cab in vehicle mode, otherwise he’s the same figure pretty much. And his vehicle mode doesn’t even look like a proper G1 mode also, the trailer remains the same. If you already have the Siege Magnus, this one is not worth springing for really.

Edit: Also his white prime mode is clearly mistranformed, and so is Magnus himself. They forgot the flip around peice for the magnus waistplate.

Yeah, just pre-ordered Hotrod, Jazz, Kup, and Wheelie & Grimlock. I do hope they don’t re-release a better version of Wheelie with Grimlock down the road.

You read that right - REPRESENTING WHEELIE CREW! stands his ground :stuck_out_tongue:

A friend turned me on to the Headmasters anime. I watched a few episodes on a stream, and I have to say - it scratches an itch that the '86 movie ended for me. After that movie, it was impossible to go back to the animated series.

The Headmasters show however seems to follow through on the “F@ck the old crew” ethos of the movie. Galvatron is a right bastard, and we’re following all new characters post movie. Going to snag the box set when I find it on the cheap.

I suspect Gun Megs is lost for all time given our current culture. I don’t mind too much so long as they stick to his legit Tank mode, and not some of this wanky damned versions they’ve come out with over the years.

A lot of the Cybertronian stuff just sucks ass to me. The toy line needs a Syd Mead style designer to come up with amazing conceptual vehicle and weapon modes, and knock-off this lame ass Space Rectangle aesthetic. So low effort.

I sort of feel the same way about how the Cybertronian seekers currently really poorly transform and leave giant gross robot tumors hanging under the plane kit. Come on toy designers, a little effort please. I only grabbed Starscream because the fighter mode reminded me of my Lorne Green Battle Star Galactica vipers.

Yeah, I’m living in an odd nostalgia lane here. Which is why I snagged the clearance / sale Inferno from BBTS. Something about his design reminds me of the Robots in Disguise anime that I have a mild fondness for, possibly because it was the first broadcast Transformers anime in the US, I think the public service vehicles for the Autobots was an inspired design ethic, and I’m also firmly in the TRUCK NOT MONKEY camp. So it helped distract me from my blinding anger at Beast Wars.

Totally rational thinking for a middle aged man, right? :stuck_out_tongue:

I mean, at least it’s not Bayformers aesthetic, we can all agree on that one. Right?

I got no excuses. Have fun out there!
