I actually liked that version of Prime. Initially, I would’ve preferred that instead.
That’s the thing. In the cartoons, they took liberties with the designs, and altered their body at a whim, so they wouldnt look so odd, as they do in Toy form. Those scrawny, arms in that render were carried over from the toy. In the toon, they were drawn solid just because it looked better.
lol
Linkin Park wannabe band is doing a version of the theme for the movie…
http://www.sectorseven.org/OHD2/deceptibot/theme.zip
ijt sounds so anemic or boring… then again i dont follow music in general lol…
Thoughts?
still prefer LION’S Theme. This shit sounds more like the theme to “Cybertron”.
I’m not surprised actually, he seems like that kinda guy.
I went into this with an open mind.
my scale for judging it was the film itself, not the preproduction photos, not the character designs. If it worked within the context of the film and was believable, I was onboard, and I’m glad they went in the direction they did…I’m glad there’s no mass-shifting, and trailerspace…I’m glad everything has to have an explanation, and everything has to come from somewhere.
I am gonna get what I want, which is big fucking robots beating the fuck out of each other…how can you not be in favor of that?, and they transform into cars to boot?, shit yes…this is exactly what I wanted onscreen, I didn’t want blocky monstrosities that wouldn’t work in the real world, I didn’t want G1 Clones…fuck, if they were all 1980s model cars, I’d probably retch into my popcorn bucket.
besides, you probably wouldn’t get the licenses to MAKE all the old cars (I guaran-damn-tee you wouldn’t get Volkswagen to sign off on Bumblebee, because they NEVER have!).
so, I’m glad with what we got, the Traditional designs never would’ve worked on the big screen. and I want my alien robots to LOOK like alien robots.
Well, I’ve been friends with him for about a decade. Went up to Columbus for New Year’s and hung out there with about 20 other friends. I didn’t even know he was doing a webcomic until he was two years in (It’s Walky!, that is). In fact, i’m friends with all of the real life people that ever show up in the comic, and all of the people based on real people in IW!. He’s a cool dude, even if some nutjob on LJ thinks he’s the spawn of satan.
All this talk about how everyone is glad its not exactly G1, I dont think a lot of us wanted it EXACTLY the same, but more along the lines of meeting them in the middle with all this new stuff. Having all the TF’s look this much alike looks like it could hurt the originality of the characters. Like someone said before, it hard to tell a lot of them apart in robot mode.
Plus, I dont think anyone wouldve expected Megs to turn into a gun in this movie, a tank was much more plausible.
Honestly though, even though its blasphemy to speak ill-will against G1, the gun transformation was just stupid. You’re the powerful leader of the most ruthless and power-hungry group of robots in the universe…and when you transform you have to have someone hold you.
A gun-former could have worked in the context of an accessory, like Soundwave’s cassette bots. But as the leader of the Decepticons? Galvatron’s design put the idea into much better practice IMHO. I still like the tank form for Megatron, I think that’s probably the best way you can do it.
Oh, and I don’t wanna read the spoiler regarding Megs alt movie form? So please please please don’t spoil it in regular posts.
lol no thx indeed
megatron has a stupid alt mode but theres something really imposing about turning into a gun. guns kill people. guns are pure life removers and thats what makes megatron badass to me. as a toy its a fun idea but in the company of other giant robots in a real life setting its silly.
galvatron was what megatron should have been in the beginning, a completely self sufficient killing machine (look ma! no hands!). only he wouldnt be insane.
Linkin Park *is *anemic and boring.
I think turning into a tank is way cooler than a gun/pistol.
When I was a kid, I heard that the Megatron action figure got banned in Australia (where I live) 'cause the “gun” looked too realistic.
I’ve seen the fighter jet bot in the TF screener (Starscream?) and it looked freaking awesome!
That nutjob is a fan who joined Allspark, and then kinda became an obsessive stalker after he got banned.
I promised Walky I wouldn’t do that once I got banned, and that I would remain the good, loyal fan.
and I do kinda think my tenure at the allspark is coming to a close, I’m being hounded by the mods there, for my antisocial nature.
cool that you know him…I was gonna order his book, but ran out of cash (I’m on a job hunt, that’s really wearing my patience thin). I really like his artistic style, and characters.
back on topic, I went to my wal-mart tonight, and could only find one Bonecrusher, and no Blackout (who I was gonna buy if I found).
I went home empty handed, but I’m really tempted by Jazz, and all the Robot Heroes figures.
I like the robots’ built-in arm cannons better than carrying inidividual guns. I wouldn’t mind if Prime’s G1 rifle made an appearance in the film though.
I saw Meghan Fox on Jimmy Kimmel lastnight. Jimmy’s like, “Your name should have three X’s.”
Oh that Jimmy… laying the pipe down on Sarah Silverman.
They showed a TF clip of her character and Spike. It was both hot and funny.
But Tits McGee ain’t got nothing on giant robots from outer space blowing shit up.
I’ve bought the entire main-line of movie toys so far.
The voyager class toys are all outstanding. The delux ones have numerous flaws. The Leader class Prime is one of the best Primes ever. He’s out an rageously cool toy. If I were 5 and my friend had one of them while I didn’t, I think I would be sick with jealousy. Leader Megatron is…good…but his transformation has some real problems (like the movement tolerances are way too low in the legs).
If anyone has specific questions about any of them, I’ll be happy to field questions. I suppose I could do some pictures over the weekend if need be.
I don’t think I’ve ever heard the transformers summed up better than “They are toys who fight over purple cubes and have terrible aim”. Nostalgia aside, that was what the cartoon was. I still love the transformers, but I don’t really have much of an issue with an update as long as it’s done well, and I think this movie is going to be done well.
This shit reminds me of how pissed people were when they decided spider-man was going to have organic web shooters in the movie, only three times as bad. Mother fuckers declared that Spider-man was going to be a failure and all this other shit over a detail that didn’t really change the character. That’s how I look at a lot of this. If Bay nails the characters, what they look like isn’t going to be that big of a deal to me.
I agree about him TFing into a gun. Guns kill ppl, most ppl fear holding or even looking at guns. We’ll call them liberals. But that was the point of Megatron when first created. Even his name Megatron derriving from Megaton they thought that would scare kids, but they agreed that’s what they were going. A evil robot leader who transforms into a gun and is named after a bomb sounds horrifying to a small child back in 84 yes. Though the tanks yes does work and I approve of it but I have grown very tired of it.
Picked up Barricade today! Me rikey!
NEW !!! 20TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION CD !music sound track of the classic animated movie is out for grabs right now with 4 brand new never before heard music track buy (vince dicola) and (stan bush) !!!
as for Megatron turning into a cannon: Good idea, but I don’t think it’ll happen.
the G2 altmode was a good compromise, but too many people are against it.
so, we’re getting something completely different for the movie (I’m beind deliberately vague so as not to spoil it for anybody).
though, the handgun/mass shift is right out.
if you want Megatron to turn into a Handgun, or Soundwave in the Bayformers movie, you’re telling us you want the leaders of the Decepticons to be eight inches tall.
::nod nod to TF description:: got a good laugh out of it too.
Yeah I’ve gotten into my fair share of arguments about the ‘look’ of the TFs in this movie. I’m torn - but not for the obvious reason. I could careless about them looking as blocky as they did in the cartoon, frnakly this makes WAY more sense to me. My only issue is that certain things are just a bit ‘too’ organic - say Optimus Primes face - the ‘layout’ is similar, but I think they should have strived to make the faces a bit less alien and more towards the original just for ‘personality’ sake.
And hey - at least they shot lasers, GI Joe had bullets strapped around their chest and shot lasers…TFs at least made sense…
