Transformers Thread

yeh thats a bit old here a newer one… till all are one!!!

Sorry if this has been posted already:

I found this through some link on the Spawn.com boards, this guy appearantly was working on the CG-rendered Devastator for a year. I think he should have stuck to the green/purple color but he looks to be going for hyper-realism instread.

Fuck, if only they looked this good in the movie…

^That’s pretty fucking cool.

Yeah, I would’ve preffered that look for the movie personally, speaking of which the movie release is less then a month away… Very curious to see the end result.

The only real problem with that Devastator is it doesn’t have the “alien” face all the TFs have adopted in the movie. Still, judging from the trailer of Prime v Bonecrusher, it looks like he’s got his old face back.

you do not deserve that avatar.

Sure I do. This point of the film was Megatron’s (only) shining moment. I tneeded to be…um, avatar’d I guess would be the word?

Haha. I still remember the request thread Blodia had where your av was made, and I still have mine too boot.

they were talking about this on the allspark.

what’s with the fucked up wheels on the hips?

personally I don’t think this would’ve worked in the context of the movie, and like the direction they went instead.

the arms on that thing wouldn’t even be able to clear the chestplate…not to mention the fact that Devastator pulls parts from nowhere, to complete the chest, arms and hips…while it’s wicked to look at, looking at it shows me that the direction the designers went in the film, is far more justified.

I’m glad there’s no mass-shifting, or ‘trailerspace’ in this film, and that if it’s on the robot, it has to go somewhere when it transforms, and if it’s on the car, it’s gotta go somewhere when its a robot.

Ah Shit! Dinobots And Constructicons In Tf2?!

of course, Hollywood is already talking sequals for Transformers. This guy wants the Dinobots and Devastator! God, I hope they don’t fuck this one up too…

no offense Brian, I know that there are still parts of the fandom that are divided over this.

but I really wish people would get on board with the movie designs, or they’ll be quite disappointed as a transfan in the coming year (since most of the rest of this year will be devoted to Movie Product.)

so for a sequel they plan to or want to have

Soundwave
Shockwave
Constructicons
Dinobots

As long as Shockwave is like he is in the comics and makes Megatron look like a complete bufoon I am happy

Soundwave…good idea, we need a miniscule Decepticon…

and a 7" Minicassete Recorder is a good idea…FOR ME TO STEP ON!

and Shockwave should look how he looks, but definitely shouldn’t turn into a handgun.

Christ, YTMND is gonna have a field day with THIS

I am NOT feeling the design for Frenzy in this movie. Looks like some sorta insectoid robo gremlin thing made out of crystals or something.

I’ll still be watching this movie though.

No offense taken. I actually applaud your ability to look at these “Hollywood” designs and still keep your food down. I think they’re horrendous, pieces of shit that come from a group of people that say they loved Transformers at one time, but have taken to designing these much beloved characters and making them into something that the director feels they just are not.

What I mean is this: Micheal Bay feels that the original designs are much too blocky and not nearly detailed enough to convince movie watchers and fans believe this could be possible.

So to me, he’s wants to take the impossible and make it believeable. The problem is, everyone knows that the concept of the Transformers ARE of course unbelieveable, but they’re instead lots of fun. Micheal Bay has taken out all the “fun” and replaced it with character designs that no one is familiar with and slapped a name on it expecting everyone to love it because he says that’s who it is!

“Look! It’s Megatron!” Where? I don’t see Megatron at all. There’s nothing in the new character design for Megatron, along with 95% of the other characters in this film are, that resemble anything like what we grew up with. They’ve strayed so far beyond what it is we love about Transformers and that’s the classic design works.

I want to see Megatron turn into a fucking gun.
I want Starscream to look like Starscream and not some stupid insect robot thing.
I want Scorpinok to look like he just changed into a robot and not a scorpion that stands on it’s tail.
I want Rumble to not look like a fucking chicken.

I can accept some creative freedom in the designs but fuck, these guys look nothing like the source material. Prime and Jazz are as close as it gets but just barely.

Anyways, good for you that you can sit back and just enjoy the movie for what it is. I would have had more respect for Bay and Hollywood (well, a little bit) if they had just slapped some generic name on this film, anything but Transformers.

Sorry to rant about this but shit, I got really excited when I heard that a live-action movie was finally going to be produced. Then when the final designs made it ont the net, you could almost hear the collection breaking of millions of hearts around the world. I know I’m not the only person who feels this way.

Up until a month ago, there was no way I was going to watch this film. Then my 7-year old son saw the commercials and went crazy. I got him started on it so I may as well be the one who takes him to see the movie. I really, really, really hope to sit down and walk out half-way satisfied but from everything I’m hearing and seeing on the net, I can’t see how that’s possible.

btw, if you (or anyone here) thinks I’m too whiney about this, you should see what a-chan says about it. I sometimes think she’s more upset about it than I am.

SMB, I feel EXACTLY the same way you do. I can understand them saying the orignals were ‘too blocky’ but they definatly couldve worked around that. Remember the short clip of a VW beetle transforming into Bumblebee a few years back? Thats exactly what they shouldve done for the film. Hell, I dont collect the Alternators/Binaltech line at all, but I would be pleased with even that. (well, minus the Prime = Dodge thing).

I think they strayed too far from the origins of G1, character-wise. Theres no reason for Starscream to look more like a bug than a humanoid-robot thing. Or how Prime is not a flat-nose, and the fact that he has flames. Why couldnt they make Hot Rod the ‘young sport car’ robot instead of BB?

Ill still see it, and yeah, Ill probably still like it. But Ill always know that it couldve been done MUCH better to cater to long-time fans of the series, like a lot of us here.

Hollywood is a cruel mistress.

Updates/remakes are probably the most difficult project a writer/studio could attempt to tackle. Sure, there’s already a fanbase - so you don’t have to worry about attracting people from scratch, but the problem is that the fanbase already has various different expectations and preferences right from the start. And these preferences are so spread out, there is absolutely postively NO WAY to please everyone. Cater to one crowd, another gets shafted. That’s just the reality of the situation. In the end, you’ve got to pick the option that will please the greater percentage of the people/present the opportunity to make the most amount of money.

The movie can’t be G1 all over again. For all the people who’d get a kick of the nostalgia, there’d be people saying “WTF? This is old.” There’d be people saying “you had a chance to do something new and different, and yet you rehashed stuff from 20 years ago? Lame!” And it certainly wouldn’t attract any new fans - if they weren’t interested before, why would they be now?

If I were a casual TF fan, with the money and resources to make a movie that would cater to the niche audience, I’d do so in a heartbeat. I’d re-do the original movie, but do it right. And that’d be fine for the TF fanbase (though I’m sure there’d be people who’d hate it). But no big Hollywood studio is going to devote time, money, resources, and effort towards a project for the niche market, especially for a summer film, especially when there’s potential to turn it into a blockbuster. It’s like choosing not to make more money to make a smaller group of fans much happier.

So, I guess I never really expected much G1 from this movie to begin with. I like the story of Transformers, so if this movie can at least capture the idea behind the TF world, and do it decently enough, I’ll be content. If we do get a few G1 bones, I’ll be thrilled. Like if Iron Hide says at any point “Let’s go kick some Decepticreep tail!” Or if, at any point, Starscream stands over an injured Megatron and says “You still function? Wanna bet?” And I’ve said before, I’d bend over and let Michael Bay have his way with me if he blasted an Autobot <-> Decepticon scene change bumper right across the big screen.

So I was going into the movie from the start with zero expectations for it. However, the recent trailers look really bad-ass, and now I’m actually looking forward to it. It won’t be G1…but I kinda knew that anyway.

The only thing about the movie I know I don’t like is (many of) the designs. The action looks incredible. If the robots have personality, I’ll deal with the uncomfortable aesthetics. Az pretty much summed up my feelings on the movie: I had zero expectations positive or negative, but a bit of excitement has built up with the recent trailers.

I’ve become more and more amped for this movie since seeing the teaser way back in December. My expectations have grown with every new trailer I’ve seen as opposed to being ridiculously high from the beginning. I think it’ll be a great film… and I think it will satiate our appetites as fans more so than Spiderman 3 or TMNT ever did for its respective fan bases.

I wasn’t crazy about the robot designs at first, but I totally understand where Bay’s coming from ? he wants the TFs to be more mechanical and he’s obviously putting a shitload of detail into the final product. The only designs I don’t like are Ratchet and Megs, but that’s only based on concepts. I hated what Prime *would’ve *looked like, but the latest trailer indicates it’s a bit more faithful to the original. Perhaps Megs and Ratchet will be different.

Bumblebee as a Camaro? I like that idea. A lot of people were like ‘what the fuck.’ But there?s no way a guy would drool the same amount of enthusiasm for a VW Bug as he would a Camaro. Bay is aiming for believability here. I know, I know. What?s so fucking believable about giant robots from outer space blowing up shit? But that?s the point of movies like this ? to put viewers in a state of belief for 120 minutes.

You really need to put aside your inner critic and just enjoy this movie. That?s why comic book nerds and the like are the worst people on earth to watch these types of movies with. They?re just gonna spend time before, during, and after incessantly bitching over what they didn?t like. You don?t have to accept it as canon per se. It?s only an adaptation ? an alternative view of the TF universe. I?m not an avid toy collector, but I loved the series and I think the team of Bay/Spielberg will do it justice.
