The wife and I are hoping for Soundwave as well, but I think there’s enough that can be done to Soundwave to warrant an MP edition. Sure, the transformation would be ridiculously easy but I think they could make up for it by including an actual working cassette deck inside the torso. The technology is cheap enough by this time I think. Just my fantasy.
9999: Ya’ got the right idea. I refused to buy MP Ultra Magnus because he’s just a repaint and everyone knows I hate repaints. But if Just Toys or Takara can make it happen then I’ll be the first in line to buy one.
Speaking of Just Toys, anyone see their Megatron stock & barrel announcement?
Very cool but I wonder how much good it’ll do? How many people are going to display MP Megs in gunmode? And how many people actually have the mongoloid hands to hold him properly?
I’d like to see one of the original Autobot’s make an appearance soon in the MP line but the only problem is licensing? I doubt many of today’s car manufacturers who approved of Hasbro using a Porsche, Ferarri, Lamborghini, Datsun-Nissan back then will approve now. I’d love to see Jazz or Prowl as an MP but I think Datsun and Prosche would agree to that today.
So then it falls to characters who are based off of non-licensed designs like Hot Rod and Blurr. Hot Rod would be cool still, as he could finish off a great moment in TF history… getting Optimus Prime killed.
So I guess my wishlist looks like this:
Jazz
Prowl
Soundwave
Blitzwing
Hot Rod
Grimlock
"Real" Ultra Magnus
Galvatron
If anything, I think Grimlock would be the most popular out of those three, and among a lot of others. He’s big, so he would fit in the MP series well (same size as Prime, if not a bit bigger), plus his dinosaur mode would look great. Maybe have him walkable in dino mode, ala Trypticon.
The only problem with Bumblebee is that Volkswagon already said no to a Binaltech version so unless Takara promises he won’t come with any weapons whatsoever, they would hopefully reconsider.
Ah, forgot about the licensing problem. IIRC, they had to modify Jazz in the Alternators line because Porche wouldn’t grant them the license. In that case, then that would definitely make the S3 characters easier to do, despite the lack of actual vehicle authenticity. I’m still gonna go with Astrotrain as the most likely next candidate - no licensing problems, and definitely complicated enough.
I guess that also makes Iron Hide and Ratchet better forerunners, as IIRC they weren’t based off any specific vehicle. I wouldn’t rule out Prowl or Wheeljack though.
I want Soundwave too. I agree, if they really wanted to sink their teeth into him, make him a music player AND include the cassette bots. I dunno about making him a cassette player though, that would be kind of pointless. I’m sure they’d have to have him be an MP3 player, or at the very least mini-disc.
I’m almost sure they’ll do Rodimus at some point, its just a matter of when.
And MP Devastator/Constructicons would be awesome…but I shudder to think of the price of such a beast.
I guess since we’re doing wish lists…
Soundwave
Iron Hide
Wheeljack
Prowl
Cyclonus
And browsing the TF communities, I found a few people who weren’t completely happy with MP Megs…
Actually, Ironhide/Ratchet are based off of an actual Toyota Van. I forget the name but I see them tootin’ around out here from time to time. I saw one just like two weeks ago, a red one in fact and both the wife and I saw it and said “look, it’s Ironhide!”
Jazz ended up being a Mazda RX-8. Which was still hot. I wasn’t feeling the red version, though.
Considering that Mini-discs still kinda exist, that would work. Or you can get Sony up on this deal and make UMDs. =p
You haven’t heard me mention MP Unicron. =p
As ambitious as that would be, I’d still buy it. And yes, I do have Armada Unicron. Which is still dope in it’s own right, but I just like the paint job on OG Unicron. =/
My idea for the MP Constructicons would go like this: Release them individually at about $50 bucks each(Binaltech price) and go from there. It’s probably the only reasonable thing to do in terms of pricing. After all, we never got them in one box when we were kids(did we? I can’t recall).
People are too fucking picky. I can’t complain, I wasn’t completely satisfied with MP Starscream from the size point of view, but everything else was great.
They should be glad they even got an MP Megatron. Those things are so hard to get into the country it’s ridiculous. That, and the fact that Takara is only doing one production run of these things.
…Did not know that. But Toyota seems like they’d be far less anal about the license, so its a matter of whether or not Takara wants to make one. I don’t know if the community would be interested, but I know I’d pick one up in a heartbeat. Was there ever a proper Iron Hide/Ratchet toy? Since both characters appear in the movie, that might also help to influence a decision to green-light MP Iron Hide/Ratchet.
It would probably be better to have Soundwave be an MP3 player, and then give the cassette bots a USB port so you can upload songs, and then have Soundwave play them. Now THAT would be sick. But I wonder if Takara is willing to go that far.
I don’t remember either. MP Constructicons would be awesome, and do-able - no licensing issues, right? Not to mention the challenge of creating a toy that’s vehicle accurate, robot accurate, AND gestalt accurate too. It seems like something they’d want to try and take on, its just a question of how practical it is.
That’s what I figured too. My only real complaint with Starscream is the color scheme. I didn’t like the hip skirts, but once I found that you could remove them I was much happier. I saw in the TF community that people hated how boxy they made his arms. His arms! But I guess that just goes with the territory of being a hardcore fan. The same goes for us too.
True. I for one think this line is awesome. Its like, the toys we always wanted as a kid but the technology didn’t allow for.
No way. I remember that scene punching a Unicron-shaped hole in my fragile little psyche when I was - what - 8 years old? I still can’t watch that scene without flinching.
If I had an MP Iron Hide, I’d make an “Iron Hide’s Revenge” display, with MP Iron Hide standing over MP Megs while holding his arm cannon. :bgrin:
I also wanted to have MP Starscream holding MP Megs just as he’s about to dump him into space, but size issues sort of make that impossible.
^Yeah, I remember seeing the news on that awhile back. I was just thinking of ways to make a potential MP Soundwave be more detailed. Since a music player Soundwave is already coming out, maybe have the cassette bots contain various quotes from the series that Soundwave can play?
…Oh yeah huh. Man, Soundwave sounds like a retard in Japanese. Like, literally, a mentally handicapped person.
His lines in the English version weren’t that complex to begin with, but it just did not translate AT ALL into Japanese. Shit’s just horrible. “Jaga! I-jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeekuto!”
But then this breaks off into my “Goddamn I Hate the Japanese TF Dub” rant.
