There hasn’t been an official MP Arcee IIRC.
There are probably some third party ones; some other folks know more about it than me.

Yeah, there is a FansToys (Third party company) version of the figure that’ll be released soon. Personally, if it’s G1, I am just waiting for Takara to do it. I have found HasTakTomy to be delivering haymakers with their releases so far. The IDW or more stylized versions of characters are things that I can get behind.
I abstain completely from KOs.

POTP Grimlock review
POTP Starscream review
It seems very disappointing.
The torso mode seems the best mode. It seems they designed the torso first, then the plane/robot mode after.
These two guys generally give positive reviews yet they advocate holding off on it.
From the waist down Grimlock in Dino mode looks off. I would get it but I already have masterpiece Grimlock so I’ll pass on this one.
That dino mode grimlock looks like he got caught in a shrink ray but, only his upper body got downsized.
Almost like they took G1 Grimlock and Mp grimmy and chopped them both in-half. And stuck the upper portion of the G1 figure onto the MP. Looks very out of proportion.

Starscream has appeared to be unanimously terrible. Grimlock looks OK enough, but something still seems off. I got rid of the POTP Dinobots i bought not too long ago. because of this rendition of Grimlock. My Planet X Dinobots are standing in for my classics assortment just fine.
I kinda wish the Generations line would go back to being new takes on original characters instead of G1 2.0, Some of the earlier molds don’t age the best, but are much more interesting than what we have now.
That Starscream DOES look like hot garbage. The more I saw the new Dinobots, the more i disliked them. I actually just ordered the Fansproject Lost Exo Realm Dinobots. Kinda wish I got the Planet X ones but the LER guys were all on sale.
BTW, it’s been so long since I’ve been on SRK. I actually miss this thread the most.
I was looking at some of my collection and I am getting this “want” to purge most of my classics collection with the exception of a few pieces. I realized that a lot of it is G1 2.0, which doesn’t make any sense, especially if you have the MP line.
I can understand that pov.
I don’t really collect mp but basically if you want the utmost best incarnation of a G1/Bw character, you’re best bet is mp.
I sometimes think if if the mp line was more readily available in American physical stores outside of TRU I would probably go for them.
An interesting thing is that the Generations line is skewing towards just being G1 with articulation instead of updating alt modes or robot modes significantly. For those still have their g1 figures ,it’s pretty redundant.
I’m kind of hoping that they either do more obscure characters or go back to modernising the figures. Or even doing versions of characters from Armada/Emerging/Cybertron.
My situation is different from most in that I wanted to basically restart my transformwr collection of my childhood. I never had many of the classic 84/85 characters so I went full steam into classics. But now with dinobots/terrorocons here,I feel like I’m going to end collecting in a few years.
Give me a good Ratchet/Ironhide and Scorponok and my collection would be complete.
Yeah, once you start down that dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny . . . . . .
The point about the G1 thing is absolutely correct. It’s great if either that’s your thing or you want a G1 figure with today’s articulation. This is especially true for the recent legends releases and Titans Return. When classics first started, they were re-imaginings of the classic characters. Things have change quite a bit since then. I do think that it is partially because Hasbro can do more with less. They will also hit the nostalgia factor 10-fold, meaning the criticism will be minimal. When they redid Grimlock almost a decade ago, I liked the mold, I just felt it was too small. The Prime mold is still being used to this day. It’s not a straight redo of the original but is highly praised.
The problem with the other versions is that no one really buys them apparently. I do want to keep some of my Classics stuff but the G1 service is becoming a bit egregious. For example, I have all of the MP seekers so the need for the classics versions just becomes less and less apparent. I have the FOC seeker set coming in the next few days to remedy that. With the Beast Wars line kicking it into high gear, I wonder what’s next (hopefully Jazz)
To your last point, they did do a Ratchet/Ironhide years ago, but it just wasn’t very good. Scorponok is a Titan Master paired in a set with Grotusque.
The original classics line-up was cool but, being re-imaginings never sat right with me. If you’re going to put out G1 characters, they should be faithful. Otherwise just release more recent characters or cook up a new, modern cast altogether.
I love the Titan Master line because they’ve fully embraced G1. Kup is back to his futuristic truck mode, and not some 1970’s pick-up. Perceptor is a telescope and not a tank or whatever. Misfire is still this futuristic neon-pink jet, and not a F-22 or whatever modern jets are out there today.
That’s how it should be. If you’re going to shake things up with entirely different alt-modes and heavily remixed robot modes, then it’s basically a new character. Just make a NEW character!! Like this stealth bomber megatron. WTF. Aside from the head, he looks like a different robot entirely:
That IDW design is glorious though.
After seeing more review videos, Prime’s G1 Grimlock is looking pretty good. Even his dino mode isn’t so bad anymore. It’s still out of proportion but, not as bad as those early pictures looked. At some angles it’s fine.
And the robot mode looks great overall.
As for the prior subject of Hasbro/Takara’s recent and heavy G1’ification of things…besides being a cash in on G1 goodness, i think they’re also trying to get back some of the market lost to 3rd party renditions. Because i think this grimlock is nice competition for an expensive 3rd party grimmy.
Much like the way the Titanmaster Headmasters cast, was a nice alternative to expensive 3rd party remakes.
Grimlock is serviceable. It definitely has the silhouette of the character. That T-Rex head with a better finish could rival for the MP version. The issues with the figure are the concessions it has to make in order to combine. If that was taken out, we’d have a really solid dinobot team that isn’t limited by a second play pattern.
I don’t think that 3Ps are really eating that much of the TF market (classics wise). A fair bit of the the 3P stuff (now) is geared towards the MP market. The classics scale was what they went for before, but no one was buying it. The collectors that can spend the money are looking for the best representation available of that character within a certain price point.
The deluxe line in TR was the sweetspot in the HasTakTomy development of Transformers. They had some solid complexity and homaged characters appropriately. The lack of the head opened up space that could help with the figure’s conversion. HasTakTomy is trying to do more with less and it just comes off as unimaginative and lazy. Look at RTS Jazz and compare it to the POTP Version. It pales in comparison. Granted, G1 is littered with re-colors, but now they are doing retools with characters that don’t share anything with it’s original mold. For example TR Blurr has been remolded/retooled into Brainstorm (x2 for the repaint), Nautica, and Arcee.
