I would say that the IDW Legends figure would be a better choice at his age. Much easier to transform, and lacks parts needing to be detached for transformation. The other thing is that you can find the Legends figure at most retailers now. The IDW Megatron figure is pretty hard (if not impossible) to come by nowadays. I just had to buy Dreadwing online because most of the previous Deluxe class Generations waves are sold out in stores.
Yeah I forgot. The deluxe figure was in physical stores last Sept-oct (2013), but not anymore.
Best bet is online if you want it.

Amazon has both but the deluxe one is like 17 before shipping since it irs sold by independent seller.

I finally got Dreadwing. I’ll be honest, for a 3 yr old, that mold could get frustrating. I’d stick with the Legends figure.
I actually found it without looking for it at Target. I wish it was bigger though. I’ve been gitting him a bunch of small Transformers and want to graduate him to something just physically ‘larger’. If I don’t worry about it being Megatron whimper, what would you guys recommend for a 9"+ transformer that a smart 3 year old could eventually get? Too bad I don’t still have my base…I used to have the base that transformed, that had a head that was a transformer, that had a head that was a transformer. Dunno whatever happend to it though.

Let’s see, if you can find it, Scoop is actually a pretty solid figure (if you can find it). Other than that, not really sure. The Beast Hunters line has a lot of spikes in it for no apparent reason. As a parent, I am looking out for your feet LOL. Unfortunately the upcoming movie line looks to be simplified to all hell. You should have an easy time finding the 38th rendition of Bumblebee.
It’s amazing how 20+ years later I still remember all the nooks and crannies and tricks. I used to store my stash money in him. His top right hatch (double door) was my obvious spot, but if you fold up the ‘tower’ portion, there is a door where you could hide money too. His left leg’s door was hard to open and was a great stash spot also.

I didn’t know there was a IDW deluxe Megatron. I really liked that body, originally designed by Soundwave but improved by Shockwave after the transformers left Earth. Guess I am gonna have to get it.

With the points, unless you plan on going to Japan, not really. To be honest, only the JP Masterpiece boxes I kept. All others were trashed. The JP boxes are to sexy to be in file 13 LOL
