Transformers Thread

I haven’t seen the '86/animated movie in a long time. Would you say that, in this day in age, is it worth going back to? Especially after seeing the Bay movie?

I don’t think you can really compare them, 4negs.

http://www.tfw2005.com/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/18574/cat/1811 I want that! :crybaby:

I will definately want the white/grey Starscream MP. If I get him, I’ll turn the japanese one into a different colored variant.

Movie was dope as hell.

Sucks for you Az, Starscream AKA Ickus rocks the house.

Oh well. I still want to see it, I guess I’ll have to borrow old tapes from someone (anime club fellow is into mecha and 'bots, maybe he can help). As an aside, I think I’ll get the old GI Joe flick to go with it, too.

Original movie is cool for sheer mindless entertainment. It is not a good movie.

I saw a late showing yesterday.

This movie was fucking fantastic, fuck the critics.

I really, totally loved it.

Michael Bay’s definately got the touch.

Finally gonna go see it this afternoon.

Uh, so when you guys buy these toys, do you keep them in their original packaging or do you actually transform them, pose them, etc…?

I used to play with action figures when I was younger, specifically Transformers. Back then, I abused the fuck out of them (I was like, 6 or something). I’m contemplating getting back into action figures, but now that I’m 23, I guessing I won’t throw them across the room (thinking they’ll fly).

Do the majority of you guys collect them only, or do you actually play with them a bit? I think I’d probably play with them a bit, but then is that wise? Am I desecrating them by taking them out of the OG packaging?

Well, Im not a hardcore collector anymore. (not after losing all my g1’s in hurricanes/moves/etc)
I always open em up and transform em a few times and then dispaly them or put em in storage. I should note that i dont have any valuable figs/jpn exclusinve/botcon stuff, so my opinion prolly isnt that important lol.
If i tried keeping it in the box, i would go a week tops b4 opening it lol

I also dont collect any other action figs at all.

I used to keep all my reissues sealed, then I finally gave in.

Besides, theyre Transformers, theyre meant to be opened and played with.

omg this movie was the sh*T !!! i was goin out of my mind the whole time it was to good to be true ( the force is strong with mike-bay and steve! ) i like how they but the old school sound fx every so often , and starscream was kickin ass and black out was bad ass in the starting and scopinock. wow and prime was the old school prime i know it was goin to be like that but just hearin that vocie in real time i was like nooooooo way !!! am definitly goin to see this movie a few more times!:lovin::rock::karate::clap::woot:

True that. I guess I will play with them (posing them on top of my computer monitor), but if I ever invest in some hardcore collectible stuff (like pristine G1, first-run Megatron, or some crazy JP exclusive), then I’ll keep it in OG packaging.

Also, I only collect official releases… is that the general rule of thumb? Or are 3rd party reproductions (good ones) something you guys buy too?

If I ever start buying toys just to leave them in the package, kill me.

Seriously, they’re fucking Transformers.

yahh for alias! lol.

ahem, just saw it, and it was

SO FUCKING DOPE

I just got back from seeing this movie. It was very curvilinear for me, with the height of this movie being the middle (I dont want to give anything away, but for the first half there was so much nostalgia, I was like F**K yea!). But after the middle, it just all goes downhill from there. It was written well in the sense that it was very realistic as to what might actually take place if such an event did occur in today’s society, and there were a number of suspenseful scenes that I thought were done well, and it was especially great to hear Optimus’ voice again, but the later 1/3 of the film was very poorly done, and the ending fight and especially the end of that fight was just so ridiculous and nonsensical. The awesome production that made the 1st half of the film so cool pretty much falls apart because of it. For instance, there were a number of instances where they were trying way too hard to be funny, which took away from the splendor and nostalgia that did it for me in the first half of the film. Then there were also a number of fan service lines that Transformers fans will undoubtedly recognize , but although this is a nice reminder of what once was the generation 1 movie, I found myself questioning why this is even in the movie. Finally, and this I found to be really unnecessary, but they have a character that is in for what seemed like 10 minutes in the film that had a Jar Jar Binks kinda feel to him (he was the mini robot that had the mannerisms of Jar Jar).

Bottom line: The 1st half of this film made me proud to be an 80’s Transformers fan, but the ending action sequence really ruined it for me. But if you’re a die hard Transformers fan, you will love it anyways in spite of what I see as its shortcomings.

Picked up leader class Megatron today (yes the movie inspired me :stuck_out_tongue: )
Still need to get used to his “different” look, but he fits nice next to my other Megatrons

yeah I got him earlier this week. We finally got him in at work. So far I’m already used to the design and love it. I mean he lights up, makes noises, has his flail and double armed fusion cannon. This design is awesome, for once Megatron looks fearsome!

Oh and Arsenal, if it makes you feel any better I open up all of my TF toys as well. I may let them sit around in packaging for some time and open them up later. While I also keep the packaging atm my classics, movie figs and titanium. Two of my G1’s are out and everything else is in their original boxes but opened
