Personally, the BTTF crossover figure is the best one done so far. It represents both franchises extremely well in both modes.
Damn, this hit me yesterday.
Thundertank! One of the best cartoon vehicles as a Transformer would be too much to handle.
This damned Cyclonus figure is a marvel of toy engineering.
Definitely going to be an idiot with my money if I see that in the wildâŚ
I stopped âhuntingâ TFs at this point. If it looks the part, itâs pretty much a done deal. Cyclonus is also going to be one of the more sought after units.
I can dig it.
For me, itâs less hunting, especially during Covid times - itâs more a lame duck excuse to save money if I donât find it on a provisions run.
My toy hunting days ended in 2012 with the DC Universe Classics line. Those were real stupid days, driving from cleveland to Columbus to make purchases / trades, befriending store employees to establish a rapport, and driving to multiple stores after work hours at the day job.
Hopefully the speculation of multiple releases are true, as that is an awful lot of engineering to put into a figure in a line with an excess of repaints and retools.
Kingdom Cyclonus and Studio Scourge, scale great with Titans Return Voyager Galvatron. Having all three members of Unicronâs crew is pretty nice.
Remember, Cyclonus and Scourge both have troop building capabilities.
Were there other versions of Cyclonus? I bailed out after the movie. It set too high of a standard to follow, and it killed off the characters I grew up with. Good time to exit as an 11 year old.
Other than the G1, you had the Deluxe scale Generations figure (and a couple recolors) and the one from Combiner Wars (Silverbolt retool). The Kingdom figure is likely the best rendition of the character.
Heard some talk of Netflix Bumblebee but, i passed on him ever since i picked up this guy:
Minimal backpack, no partsforming, Plastic quality on-par with any mainline bot, cleaner and more accurate robot & altmode, Scales properly to Earthrise Cliffjumper, and about the same price as a mainline deluxe too.
Itâs cool for what it is.
I was intent on writing off Earthrise Magnus as a needless release, with itâs only meaningful change being a proper, âWhite-Primeâ cab mode. But seeing the review, i also really dig the CLEAN LOOKS of the combined form. Aka: No obnoxious âdamage/dirtyâ looks the Siege version had.
That whole âcruddyâ look of Siege figures really was hit & miss.
Edit: Earthrise Magnus has BETTER colors too! Siege Magnus had a dirty âOff-whiteâ look, while Earthrise Magnus has a really nice and proper White to him. I think the Blue on him is a deeper blue also.
I think my aversion to pallet swaps gives me a greater appreciation for the mild variation in previous Ultra Magnus releases. There is great nostalgia for OG Ultra Magnus, as he was the first Transformer I purchased with my own money - and the kindness of the woman in line behind my dumb child ass, who didnât comprehend sales tax back in the day. God bless that kind soul who kicked in the 7% so this dumbass could walk out of the store with an Ultra Magnus that fateful day.
Walmart upân cancelled my Warpath pre-order due to âhigh demandâ.
This is not how pre-ordering works man. I think between this, and Target axing my Thrust pre-order Iâm done with big box pre-sales.
After postponing it for two weeks, I made another provisions run after work this morning. Hit up an area where they donât seem to purchase many toys for their kids, and stumbled upon Hardhead and Chromdome. They also had the helicopter and bat, but I left those for interested parties.
Still on the hunt for a Soundwave.
Soundwave, Huffer, and Warpath will set me up. Rumors of a new Wreck-Gar is an answer to my unspoken hope for a new Wreck-Gar figure though. . . bastards!
Netflix Soundwaveâs were flooding wal-marts back on christmas time, easy to grab. Not around so much anymore. But there are plenty of affordable ones on e-bay. Warpath has been easy to come by lately also. Studio Jazz was tough. Saw him once but, couldnât grab him at the time. Then a chance visit at a random wal-mart i went to for something else, i stopped by the area and found (1) Jazz. Sweet.
Studio series hot rod was a rare one to get.
Its one of the few CHUG figure I have bought in 2020 (although arrived in 2021). Itâs a pretty solid unit.
The pandemic has retarded my willingness to make shopping trips. So itâs difficult to work up the nerve to leave the house for anything but the essentials. I might scan eBay for Soundwave. It will be worth it given the present conditions.
Spotted that one this morning. He, Blurr, and Grimlock were the only ones I spotted when I popped into Target.
Nice looking figure. Glad to see the crap from my childhood getting these fantastic engineering updates to be more animation accurate.
I love the Hot Rod/Rodimus character, heâs the âLuke Skywalkerâ of Transformers for me. But iâve seen him quite a few times and have been consistently passing on this release. I canât shake the feeling that weâre going to get a Great new Rodimus release soon w/optional Hot Rod face, that blows this release away.
As many figures like Earthrise Magnus has shown, Hasbroâs current business model is to give us a Good version of a character first, and once all the fans have been SUCKERED into buying it, release a GREAT version later. So weâre all stuck buying the same character twice.
Just when iâm ready to buy him, i think back to the all the times Hasbro screwed us recently and put him back. I just canât shake the feeling that studio Hot Rod is another one of these âIntermediateâ releases, before they hit us with a Great Hot Rod/Rodimus figure.
Edit: Especially by the way they were faithful to a fault with Studio Hot Rod. As in, heâs so accurate that he CANNOT possibly function any anyone BUT Hot Rod in your collection. They made him so tiny next to the Prime and the others, to assure that.
