Transformers Thread 2.0

It’s clearly not just an oversized Cheetor.

Good the last thing we needed was a malnourished looking tiger had they kept it the same.

Before you all get excited about grabbing the WFC Figures from Best Buy, it’s a series SKU. Meaning that there are different products under that one code. Bought Prime and this is what they had when I picked it up.

Doh
Sorry about that.
I guess I will search in store first.

It’s all good. This is how they get you

Not gonna lie, I think Astrotrain is money better spent (compared to Prime). The weapons connecting into a super cannon, the triple changing element, and the tender just elevates it’s play value. It’s a much better figure than the Classics and TR versions. If you are collecting CHUG and want that triple change action, you can’t go wrong here. Probably the best accidental purchase I’ve ever made.

I went back and read through the page. Random select is a product feature!

I shit you not LOL

Astrotrain’s not bad for a random pick lol. At least you didn’t get an older LeaderClass figure you might already have, like ShockWave.

Edit: Assuming you didn’t have Astrotrain that is.

It was a surprise, but it’s a really cool figure.

So, I acquired Prime as a gift.

At $50 its a bit overpriced. However, ER Prime is the updated modernization of the character that’s practically the way it should have been. I still think that the proportions on Siege Prime are better, but the new unit is a G1 2.0 version that you’d want to get. I’ll post a few pics later tonight.

EDIT

Oh, and you can swap the head from Siege Prime to ER Prime so it doesn’t have the dead face.

I am mad Prime don’t have his own power sword

Earthrise Optimus Prime

Having him in hand, I’ll admit that it’s pretty great. I’ll focus mainly on the differences between this figure and the Siege version.

Robot Mode
ER is going to be the ultimate modernization of a G1 Prime without a doubt. Everything about it screams 1984 v2. Seeing them side by side is what drives it home.

image

Siege has better proportions, but Prime cleans up a lot better (literally). That weathering effect on the previous line was stupid. There isn’t a backpack of kibble from the top of the truck. The only real backpack is the trailer’s repair bay that you can use as a jetpack (sort of).

You also get the inclusion of a matrix, but posing with it is another story. This pose is the best that you can do since the figure doesn’t have butterfly joints on the arms.

Transformation

ER Prime has probably the best use of faux parts since MP-44. Most of the truck’s cab folds into the chest. Some people may consider this panel-forming. I don’t care how it does it, as long as it’s well thought out, I’m for it.

image

Vehicle Mode

ER does seem a bit smaller, but that’s due to a much cleaner presence. The top of Siege is just a backpack in bot mode along with the two launchers that become part of the arms.

You can use the trailer with Siege since there is a peg for it.

image

There is one lazy part of the figure overall. The legs are the same parts.

image

Since you don’t rotate the legs around for the ER version, Prime has two holes for a trailer. One in the center and one on the outer right. I am sure this was cost-cutting, but that just seems lazy.

I didn’t take any pics of the trailer since honestly, it’s the 84 trailer sans roller and all gray plastic.

Recommendation
I’m torn. At full retail, I am a little hard-pressed. You also have an existing version of the character that gets you 80% there at $20 less. You just have to wonder why they even released the Siege version knowing that this was down the road. At the same time, if you are looking for that G1 2.0 goodness, no other version comes as close to it. The transformation is probably the best CHUG Prime schemes to date. I’ll say it’s worth buying on sale or you have enough Best Buy or Target Circle rewards to knock it down $10-$20. If paying full retail understand that you’re spending $20 for a slightly more articulated figure and to have a gray box collecting dust.

Finally saw some Walmart ER’s.
They had a single Grapple, a single Astrotrain, few Ironworks and some of the small dudes that turn to weapons.

However, they did start lowering prices of Siege characters.
Almost bought Ultra Magnus for 10 bucks cheaper than MSRP.

Magnus and Shockwave are decent figures. Shockwave is probably the defining example of what is wrong with the current leader price point. All that extra kibble doesn’t look good no matter how you try to spin it. The only two of the leaders in the WFC set seem like a decent value. Those are Magnus and Astrotrain.

hahaha Yea man. I don’t like all the extra stuff they add, just give me a giant character.

I might get UM, since ER OP may never become available lol And I hate how tiny he is lol
I get that he comes with the trailer… But man, he’s like Voyager size for sure (or maybe even Deluxe?)

It’s actually a really good figure, but that extra money for basically a trailer and a slightly higher parts count just doesn’t seem like it’s all worth it.

That’s how I’m viewing it too, brother.
Before buying these damn toys, I didn’t know they would be so short stocked LOL

Lesson learned.

Guess I probably have to pre-order Doubledealer lol

Since the beginning of Siege, seems like Takara/Hasbro have been making a serious effort at DOWNSIZING the scale of their figures. It used to be a Leader-class was comparable in height to MP-10/MP-44/POTP Optimus/etc.

Now all leader characters and “leader class” figures are more voyager sized. I was opposed to this at first but, i could be on-board if they continue. Give us a Great G1 Galvatron & Rodiumus to go with the Excellent Siege Megatron & Optimus scale we got.

I could see a Leader class Rodimus. Where Hotrod is a Deluxe size or smaller, and when combined with the trailer into Rodimus, is Prime’s height.

Edit: Just look at the size difference between Titans Return Soundwave & Siege Soundwave…

Honestly, I am OK with the current sizing. Problem is that for two of the four leader class figures, it just doesn’t seem to have bang for the buck.

Sweet! A Super easy & cheap way to achieve Tape player mode on Siege Soundwave:

If only they made some extra bits to cover the white thighs in “Player” mode. It’s really the only thing that sticks out on the illusion.

Is anyone going to the TFCON in Orlando (March 20-22)?

I was thinking about going but now I’m hesitant due to Corona virus.

@Optimus124 Did you buy tickets?
