Training Regimen

I’m really looking to up my game with Dante and I know a good portion of that takes place in the lab. I remember reading an article a long time ago about how Justin Wong would practice for hrs on in starting with regular BnB’s, then Option selects, to just freestyling. So I’m curious what/how do you guys practice while in training mode?

Well I can tell you what I practice… Movement first and foremost I feel like getting the movement down on dante (or any charater for that matter) is they best place to start practice. It really helps to get your hands warmed up, i then go into input training, shot loops and then bnbs. I really feel that combos should be the last thing you practice in training mode and going for set ups and hit confirms makes you a better player in the long run.

Well, when I hop in Training mode with a character that I know/main I take around 1hours (Depending on the time I want to train) doing my basic BnB(going from different hit confirm).I also love to register Morrigan fireball spam and try to block all the fireball/get in, doing so will help me with my movement.

Also you don’t have to train alone.I have 1 training partner for the moment who play a Hulk/Haggar/M.O.D.O.K team and since I tend to be affraid of Hulk and Haggar training against him gave me knowledge on how I should play this particular match up.

Don’t be affraid to experiment with your team, try new tech and explore all option , this is how one can discover some good tech and possibly change the current meta.

I know this probably sounds really crazy but in order to learn Dante I went into training mode, set the computer on Very Hard, and just went to town on trying to space out the computer, with the goal of not getting hit or thrown. I just had one rule for myself and that was to not use j.S so I forced myself to use his real tools in order to cover my approach. I honestly think it taught me how to not press buttons on wakeup, how to tech throws on the ground properly, and really utilize Dantes normals/specials to keep people out. Make sure you practice proper blockstrings and give yourself some assists so you know how to protect them, I used Nova as a training dummy since his capitalizes off throws so well.

I don’t know if it really worked but Dante went from feeling like one of my weakest to one of my strongest characters after a few days of doing this, AIs are fucking cheaters.

Other than that, you can make any execution regimen for yourself, obviously start with what you’re weakest as. I believe if you dig in the Dante forums you’ll find a well thought out pre-set regimen that someone drew up.

Well Hard Computer might replace a decent training partner.

Its certainly not a suitable replacement but I think its better than online since online is literally just training your bad habits because you get rewarded to heavily for them online. Computer on Very Hard gives you pound for pound the most experience with Dante in a given period of time if you set your life to infinite, and it’ll teach you which strings are vulnerable usually.
