Training Mode

I spar in TM a fair bit, especially as online is a complete bust. But I find i’m getting frustrated with it. I set it to Hard difficulty and really it just reads my inputs to the point I’m not learning anything. YOu don’t learn what works and what doesn’t and what you can do when or how given that, regardless, it counters you so easily. It’s not so much that it’s too high a difficulty, it’s just the way it works.

You aren’t using training mode correctly. Post this question in the Newbie Saikyo Dojo, they can give you some tips.

tips on what? I don’t know what you mean.

I have a tip for ghost. Not every post needs to include how much you hate the netcode. I don’t even need to read your posts anymore because, regardless of topic, I know they are going to say “wah wah wah netcode bad wah wah.” We get it, you don’t like the netcode. Guess what? No one else does either.

This guy raises a good point, actually. With all the content this game has, it lacks content that actually matters if you want to improve your game.
Think about VF4E for example- It had a great training mode with multiple record functions, a huge text database inside the game disc, replays of top players with button presses, and that “quest mode” with an AI that at least tries to act human.

Ok so no game will ever do as much as VF4E, so let’s look at a recent example- BBCS, which at least has a system tutorial, character tutorials and combo trial mode.

Test your luck is awesome no doubt, but MK9 doesn’t even have a basic record function in training mode.
So I’d say for a total newbie this game could be really hard to learn from the ground up.

the 8 previous MK’s had absolutely shit AI in it, where the more difficult it got the more it could ‘read your mind’.

i’m not really sure why you expected it to change with the 9th one.

You shouldn’t really be practicing vs the AI in any fighting game. For now, just spend your time in training mode practicing combos and familiarizing yourself with all your normals and specials.

NRS has already acknowledged that the online is an issue and they’ve stated that a patch is incoming.

Truthfully, I’m not sure what the big deal about record functions in training mode is. I’ve never had a use for them. If I’ve ever needed to learn how something works out in an actual match, I’ve gone and had an actual match, be it against AI, against a friend, at a tournament, or online. In fact, as far as I’m concerned there’s really no better way to learn these things.

It’d be a nice addition, but it’s certainly not the end of the world that it’s not there.

The training mode blows. It’s hard as hell controlling two characters in order to test something.

i like the training mode. it would be better if you could record simple attacks/specials to see how you react - but it would be better still if you played with a friend instead.

training mode is great for learning combos and learning the mechanics of every character and attack in the game.

i primarily use training mode to learn which combos include a low or overhead hit to mix up, see which basic attacks will cancel into specials for big combo potential, see which combos have the best potential for juggling etc.

if you want to get better at the basics, just play arcade mode a lot and you will slowly learn. otherwise just play online and you will lose a lot but learn faster than any stupid training mode.

No, he doesn’t; training against the computer AI is useless in any game, that isn’t what training mode is for.
