"Train harder!" - Ibuki Street Fighter V Discussion

Random observation: I land air throws with Ibuki extremely reliably as opposed to how often I do with Chun. But I only get a meaty off Chun’s

I’m sure Chun’s has better knockdown advantage.

I don’t personally air throw much with Ibuki. Her grounded anti air game is already pretty strong when they’re jumping from a distance. Landing crush counter s.HK gives you solid damage and V Gauge build and usually deters people from jumping after. Air throw is probably best for when they jump in really close or try to cross.

So is it even possible to shimmy after the mk target combo, because I’ll hold back as soon as I hit confirm it and I’ll still seem to get grabbed by every character. I swear ibukis throw hurtboxe is huge when she is walking backwards

I guess I never tried with lk command dash, I should prob try that out

You should have way too much frame advantage after the sweep target into MK command dash to be getting thrown out of your shimmy. The only way you can be getting grabbed is if you’re pressing s.MK before they throw which will extend your hurt box into their grab. If you wait for them to whiff throw before you hit a button it should be a free ass shimmy.

Not agaisnt bison, bison has a ridiculous grab range.

You still have way too much frame advantage after the target combo to get grabbed even by him. Bison can grab you during normal tick grab stuff (which is done on purpose since his defensive options are ass), but you’re just really messing up if people are throwing you after sweep target into MK dash. You just have to start moving backwards a little bit earlier after the command dash to cover his throw range.

Yea just tested it in training mode. Not sure why I was getting grabbed in the match

Probably doing the dash after the tc rather than canceling into it.

Everything this character does feels super strict on timing lol

Here are some meaty setups after different knockdowns
-ff meaty or 1st frame meaty means first frame meaty, meaning that as soon as the opponent gets up, the first active frame of the move is in his face
-perfect meaty means that the last active frame of the move hits the opponent
-side exchange means that you change sides with your opponent
-xth frame meaty means that the opponent has x frame window before the move becomes active, a 2nd frame meaty throw throw on the 1st possible frame, as the opponent has 1 frame of throw invincibility when they get up
-off by x perfect meaty means that it hits x frames too soon to have a perfect meaty
Raida midscreen:
recovery:
-dash MP (2nd frame meaty)
-dash throw (2nd frame meaty)*
no recovery:
-dash MP,LK,LK command dash,cr.MP (perfect meaty)
-dash MP,LK,MK command dash,st.MP (ff meaty,side exchange)
-dash MP,LK,HK,throw (3nd frame meaty)
-dash throw,st.LK,dash,st.MP (perfect meaty)
-dash throw,dash,dash,st.MP (ff meaty)
-dash throw,st.LP,LK command dash,throw (2nd frame meaty)

Forward throw midscreen:
recovery:
-f.HK (trash, but you won’t get much better)
-cr.MP (also trash, only hits if the opponent touches some specific button)
no recovery:
-f.HK, cr.MK, cr.MP (off by 1 perfect meaty), can only get st.LK or st.MK after
-f.HK, MK command dash, st.MP (off by 1 perfect meaty, side exchange)
-f.HK, st.HK, throw (2nd frame meaty)
-cr.MP,st.MK,dash, st.MP (perfect meaty)
-cr.MP,cr.MK,dash,throw (2nd frame meaty)

Back throw midscreen:
recovery:
-after a dash you’re +2,can hit a cr.MP
no recovery:
-cr.MP,dash,dash,cr.MP (ff meaty)
-cr.MP,st.LP,MK command dash, st.MP (off by one ff meaty, side exchange)
-cr.MP,st.MK,dash,throw (2nd frame meaty)

*Doesn’t work against:
-RYU
-MIKA
-KEN
-CAMMY
-VEGA
-GUILE
-IBUKI
-KARIN
-NASH
-BISON
-DASLSHIM
-FANG
If the opponent touches a button it won’t work
If the opponent walks backwards it won’t work, wich makes it pretty bad unless we make the opponent scared of blocking high, which is hard as we only have cr.mk, which doesn’t cancell into anything except v trigger and cr.LK, which even tho is +3 on hit we can’t link st.LP after a LP Raida dash because we’re too far away

guys i’m not good at discovering stuff, i did it randomly in a match. So take a look and tell me if it can become a good thing.

I don’t see that having any real use since the bomb flies way far away from the opponent and you could probably get hit during the recovery

Found something interesting. So when cancelling a far/max range light normals (st.lk, cr.lp, st.lp[I think f.lk would be the most reliable one to use in neutral]) to MK Dash, reversal normals will whiff (jabs, cr.mk, sweep, etc.) This could be handy since many people would press buttons after st.lk since it’s -2. She can whiff punish a cr.mk with st.mp, st.lk combo with it. This could serve as an alternative if you don’t want to spend EX Kunai for frame trap off st.lk or after you condition them to block with st.lk xx EX Kunai. If they try to press the buttons a bit later, they could risk a counter hit off her LP MP HP TC. I don’t know the effectiveness of this yet. Just found out about this in the morning and will try it out later when the servers are back on.

Not sure if you guys have been doing this, but here are a couple of meaty kunai setups that I have been using.
lp raida knockdown (no recovery)
dash st.mp (whiff), st.lp (whiff), jump lp air kunai
dash cr.lk (whiff), st.lp (whiff), jump lp air kunai
dash cr.mk (whiff), delay, jump lp air kunai
dash throw (whiff), delay, jump lp air kunai

Anyone have a link to the swimsuit alt colors? Trying to decide if playing survival is worth it for her, since i’m 30k FM away from buying another character.

$5 for an alt is not worth it from any perspective. It is up to you to decide if you would pay those 5 dollars for it. I love the design but am also angry that capcom is making them this expensive. (And yes it is $5 for my country not $4, which is 15000 pesos, minimum wage per day in my country is around 22000 pesos…)

Had this comeback today against a diamond nash player and thought it was a good idea to post it. Shows the ins and outs of the nash matchup lol He bodies ibuki but if Ibuki gets momentum things can get on her favor quite fast.

I feel she does better vs Nash than I remember Chun doing. Way more anti projectile options and that Nash wasn’t even throwing many projectiles. His neutral game seemed suspect also as he barely was using any of Nash’s best buttons in neutral. I was really surprised that he forgot to sweep your sweep on block in the first round. You’d think a Diamond would know that sweeps are free sweep.

Your pressure and combo setups overall are pretty solid. Would like to see a bit more f+HK and V Skill, but liked what I saw overall.

I’ll also plug in my video. Here’s a match I played yesterday with an old school online player GimmeThemShoes. Used to play with him like 13 years ago on the original Xbox Live CVS2. He was playing KI for a bit also.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQ6S1_LLcXw&feature=youtu.be

Maybe he is learning nash? He’s only lv30, for a diamond player. Either way it was a good show of nash buttons vs ibuki momentum based pressure

I really dont have a lot of neutral setups where i use vskill. I use it in an intuitive way when i consider it is safe enough and in range to be effective. Finding that security is hard for me but as you see in the video i found like 3 times where i was ok with using it, and it worked.

Watched your video and i believe the juri was doing stuff that ibuki could break through in footsies, also not a fan of using the slide other than for going through projectiles. But your ibuki fundamentals are up there and you have a couple more tricks than i do. We can play online whenever you are available @“DevilJin 01” im sure we can level up together

Yeah the slide is more a habit of mine from playing her in 3rd Strike where it was a lot safer. When I play Ibuki my mind still says to slide at the ranges that it would be safe in 3S, when it no longer is. Eventually I’ll probably only use sazan to just slide under projectiles or just very specific max range uses. It’s not a very good move anymore and just a crutch I use to get within her conversion button range.

I guess Nash isn’t his main or something. Still doesn’t excuse not sweeping the sweep, but you got the win off it so can’t complain.

You on the Atlantic Coast? I’m near Wash DC.

Yep im at colombia lol always get lagless connection with florida people but dont know about your region. We can try out now, i will send you an inv
