Are tournaments still run using only PS3?<br>I’m contemplating the need for a PS3 and Arcade stick for Tournament Practice, Readiness, Execution, Etc. Just want to know if it’s “necessary.” I’ve heard that the timing of PS3 execution is slightly different than 360.<br>What are the Veterans’ thoughts on these questions?<br>
<font face=“Arial, Verdana” size=“2”><span style=“line-height: normal;”>Evo is run on PS3. Tournaments local to you could be on either. You should check tournament advertisements to be sure. </span></font><span style=“font-family: Arial, Verdana; font-size: small; line-height: normal;”>Dual modded sticks are the way to go for people who regularly attend tournaments.</span><div><span style=“font-family: Arial, Verdana; font-size: small; line-height: normal;”><br></span></div><div><span style=“font-family: Arial, Verdana; font-size: small; line-height: normal;”>As for the speed differences, I personally wouldn’t worry about it. It varies based on game.<div><br></div><div>You don’t need another system to practice.</div><div><br></div><div>Most majors besides Evo run on 360 for Capcom games because 360 tends to run more smoothly.</div>

Depends on your area. Some tournament organizer’s will use xboxs, others ps3s, it depends what’s available to them and what’s commonly accepted. Like TB mentioned, Evo is run on PS3s on ASUS lagless monitors. While there are minor differences between xbox and ps3 versions of the game, you should also consider that monitors that you’ll play on will also provide a big difference. Playing on a gigantic 50" TV will be quite different from playing on the tourney standard ASUS lagless monitors. <br><br>Cheapest options would be to either a) borrow a friend’s ps3 stick, b) buy a used ps3 stick, or c) dual-mod your arcade stick. Personally I would recommend purchasing and installing (or having someone else install) a PS360+ board. It’s an extremely reliable, easy to install board, that auto-detects consoles, and can be used on xbox360, ps3, PC, dreamcast, and can be updated for compatibility with other consoles (including future consoles).
Thanks for the honest answers. <br>Another question has arisen;<br>With the advent of next-Gen consoles on the horizon, how long will Tourneys operate on PS3/360 before using the newest platforms?<br>

As soon as a “tournament worthy” game arrives on the newest platforms. From what I heard, the reason Evo adopted PS3 was because the definitive version of Tekken 5 appeared on that console, and they just stuck with it ever since. I assume the same story will hold true for the new generation.<br>

New fighting games on new consoles will be used asap as long as the TO’s can afford it. Old equipment will be used as long as the community for those older games continue to run tournaments. If your scene wants to move on towards the newest fighting games and abandon the old games, then there’s no reason to be holding XB360 or PS3 tourneys anymore. If you want to extend the competitive lifespan of say…SF4…and still manage to cobble together a competitive scene for it, then keep on using what we have now.
