Pot splitting is bad for the FGC but there’s no way TOs can stop it from happening because the top players all know each other or want to know each other. So it sucks for new players that become top players because they are put in a predicament: either agree to split the pot and be in the clique or refuse and be the loner at tournaments.
So next time when you get into grand finals with Jwong, you better agree to split the pot or you won’t have any friends.
Or you can ya know, chill wiht your friends and not feel some need to br friends with everyone. And holy fuck at thinking people would wanna split with people they don’t know and hold it against them if they don’t.
I don’t think anyone actually lost seeding points because of it. Only vaguely remember Justin Wong losing evo points for sandbagging for his friend Noel Brown (whereby him, Brown and I believe Floe all agreed to split the pot prior to the tourny)
Either way its one of those uncontrollable conditions. I think the players who do opt to split the pot have to be smarter about it so that everyone in the god damn tourny doesn’t know about it right away.
Really though. If I got into quarter finals and lame ass jwong, daigo, or anyone else told me to split my purse with them i would say go fuck yourself. Not dissing them, but just using the previous example from a few posts before.
If people hate you or ignore you for not splitting your purse with them, they got some entitlement issues.
But hey, if you wanna split your earnings, that is your own decision.
Jist dont throw fights or sandbag your friend can get in the brakets.
The rule at Evo ever since that Soul Calibur 2 scandal has been that they reserve the right to withhold payment of prizes if they suspect collusion. It’s true that it’s really unenforceable but at least it prevents players from being really brazen about it. Most tourney organizers lack the clout/balls to throw their weight around on the issue though… most of them aren’t even willing to DQ a top player for showing up late.
