Glad to hear it! Long live Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike!
I don’t give likes because I get asked, foo’. Earn it.
What if I said “Sometimes you’re not a snob, sometimes you’re just an asshole.” would that work?
There you go.
Just to get back on track, the front page says there’s a chance this’ll be the last SBO. I’m guessing all the controversies from last year and the receding sales of Arcadia are coming back to haunt them. I wish they could’ve had a better selection of games(I don’t even know if Japan actually likes Aquapazza, I hear no news at all about it), but if it is the last one, I’m glad that they brought back 3S for one last hurrah.
http://www.arcadiamagazine.com/
aquapazza is the 2nd most popular game in japan. well the website lags behind the print publication by a couple months or something, but it’s probably not completely wrong. but yeah this is nothing short of a miracle. there are like 29475 fighting games in japan that have higher raw income in coinop than 3S does right now. the second oldest game on that sbo list came out in 2010. then 3S is 11 years older than that lmao. hope this ends up being a good one with a live stream.
The rumor I always heard was the Matsuda (owner of Game Newton iirc) is a head honcho for Tougeki and is very fond of 3s hence its constant appearances.
Well, that sure showed me. But then again, I was in an area where some of these games were not popular at all. Guilty Gear received virtually NO play in Fukuoka, Melty Blood and Arcana Heart always had more people. Aquapazza came out when I came back to the US so I never heard anything about it, but that’s interesting and kind of not surprising.
I’m thinking that 3S coming back was the result of Cooperation Cup being a success with a huge turnout. If they do a live stream then I’ll be all over it.
Yeah, Matsuda-san is the guy who created SBO, is head of the committee, and he loves 3rd Strike(KSK is also part of the committee and we know how much he’s done for the 3S scene too). Rumor has it that he’s the one who helped advertise 3S during the first Evo by playing a tape of one of the JP tournaments.
EDIT: That is also why Coop Cup this year was streamed on the Tougeki site.
yeah, i heard about matsuda but i still find it surprising that one guy could really hold enough weight to put an old game in there without pissing a bunch of people off. especially when the number of games seems to decline each year and other games are making more money. well, i’m not complaining. whoever puts 3rd strike into any lineup is a friend of mine, the way i see it.
will be interesting to see who ko teams up with…
never was worried, third strike belongs in tougeki.
My friends… It’s not just Matsuda, 3rd strike still draws many people in Japan and 3rd strike finals are always poppin. It’s never dead like fate unlimited code or something.
Yeah. Nicovid uploads can draw a lot of views and comments if the tournament or exhibition is hype enough, so there’s still plenty of interest in Japan for it.
Third Strike is back? When did it ever leave? (at least in Japan anyway)
LONG LIVE 3RD STRIKE THE HIGHEST POINT OF THE STREET FIGHTER SERIES.
3rd Strike was taken out of SBO last year. That’s why Coop Cup was done during the winter time this year to make up for it.
so…let’s start thinking about something similar ?

(TWW Foreigners only tournament at Game Newton, August 9th 2007)
I think that if they want to help keep SBO alive they need to stream the whole tournament. I’m not sure how SBO is sponsored but streaming will lead to a lot of views and that can’t hurt can it? Also some internet advertising like trailers to build some anticipation and hype will help.
For the longest time I thought SBO was strictly 3rd Strike, until I saw a video of cvs2 being played. Shrug.
I’m glad to see it back though. I wonder if we will see any new faces to come out on top.
Haters gonna hate, 3rd is back like a Boss!
Everyone saw SBO 2011 was trash without 3rd.
The only thing I hope now is we’ll get a 32 teams bracket instead of 16 like 2010.
I am so, so happy about this.
3S is still more hype than any other game at SBO. Kuroda alone turns Super Battle Opera into a genuine opera - even down to all the crying and shit.
