Okay, agreed, my lack of tournament experience puts me in a less…experienced position. It does not, however, negate my opinion.
Marvel vs Capcom (2 in particular) just seems to be very masher oriented to me. That is my opinion.

What the hell is “masher oriented”? How do you explain that the top Marvel player (who also happens to be one of the best players in pretty much every major fighting game) has demonstrated a domination of the game’s scene like nothing ever seen in any other competitive video game if the game is all about mashing rather than tactics or strategy?
That statement doesn’t lend itself to an opinion, its like those old guys who go around claiming NASA filmed the Apollo mission in a Hollywood studio and that going to Mars in the near future is completely impossible because space isn’t traversable.

I didn’t say it was “all about mashing rather than tactics or strategy”. What I mean is, it’s very basic.
I don’t see any reason to quite so angrily defend the game, all I’m saying is that it isn’t to my taste.
If you could link me to a video of a game that was specifically a battle of tactical wits and strategic thinking, and not Justin Wong looping with magneto or whatever, then I’d appreciate it.
How could I possibly do that when you’ve clearly demonstrated your inability to recognize tactics and strategy anyway?
If it’s so ‘basic’ every schmuck who spends hours per day in training mode (and believe me there are a LOT of them) would be winning MvC2 tournaments. But hey they aren’t.

and if you played fighting games competitively then I would expect you to have been to at least some tournaments. Playing competitively means that you compete

I like 3rd strike, capcom vs snk 2, and the other vs games. xmen vs street fighter is still one of my favorites. I’m starting to get more into the snk games as well. garou is dope.
KOF '98 (and a couple other installments in the series), GGXXAC (would have been the perfect fighting game if Testament didn’t have that Badlands loop for no reason), the last couple Virtua Fighters, ST to an extent, Samsho 2, 4 and 6, and Tekken 5 is okay I guess, it’s been getting progressively more broken though. I’ve pretty much played a total of 20 matches in CvS2, so all you CvS heads, don’t give me heat for not including it, I just haven’t gotten around to playing it enough to form an opinion of it. Just don’t have enough prerogative to put my quarter in the machine not knowing what I’m doing, or paying 30 bucks for a game I dont really like or hate.
I’m not hating on you if you play Marvel or even if you play some DBZ Ultimate Battle 22, but denying the MvC scene is one of the worst out there is just waiting to be blindsided. There’s drama in every scene for sure, but the complete douchebaggery in the Marvel scene is almost inhuman, and it’s for a game with THE weakest international scene of any modernly played fighter.

everything else is a variation on the respective themes that those 3 perfected
Every game is unbalanced, but Marvel has more characters who you can win tournaments with (not just reasonably compete) than almost any other fighting game played right now.

mvc2 is the most complex and demanding 2d fighter ever. balance has absolutely nothing to do with strategy or a game rewarding skill. all it does is deter fanboys and character loyalists.
