yet DOA make millions more than Tekken
No it doesn’t. The Tekken series has sold more than 20 million copies worldwide and that was before Tekken 5 ever even came out.

Itagaki is too cool he cracks me up , and he has the right to his own opinion. And DOA doesnt suck, you guys suck at DOA and at prolly everyother fighting game under the sun. srk scrub nation talk shit about things you know nothing about
And where were you at the last two Evos? Where were you at SBO quals? STFU. Tool.
Opinion is one thing. Disrespect is another. Itagaki is a moron, and the very essence of the word “unprofessional”.
And you’re a sad fanboy who jumps through hoops to defend the “hardcoreness” of a game that obviously is made with CASUAL GAMERS in mind. Your buddy Itagaki SAID SO HIMSELF.
And I’m so sure that every single person in SRK, a community with tons of members, just hates DOA because they “suck at it”. Maybe, just maybe it’s because it’s flawed, and it isn’t the “Tekken/VF/SC killer” DOA fans try so hard to make it out to be? Get over it. As I’m certain I’ve said before, I owned several of the DOA games (DOA, DOA2, DOA2 Hardcore, and played DOA3 extensively). That’s how I know they aren’t the “be all, end all” of fighting games…so don’t give me this, “you suck” garbage.
Maybe you have a point though. Maybe SRK does “suck” at DOA. It’s only natural to suck at a game you wouldn’t touch with a ten-foot pole. Which, by the way, is the posters of SRK’s OPINIONS. You know, that thing you were saying Itagaki has the right to?
Thank you.
It’s obvious why Itagaki says it though. He knows the more he talks, the more casual scrubs will buy in to what he says. Namco should start hitting back or before you know it, he’ll brainwash everyone into thinking DOA is the supreme fighting game of all time while Tekken is on the street with a cardboard sign. People love to flock to people who talk.
Yah, thats it, exactly. After cutting my teeth on DOA 1 for the saturn and DOA2 on the dreamcast, and finally DOA 3 and Ultimate for the Xbox, I can truly say that i’ve give it enough time.
Sadly, I don’t hate DOA but I don’t respect dev’s who have done nothing then to disrepect countless games that through out their time, have through time proven that they are top tier time and time again.
DOA??? You mean a game that started off as an complete of Virtua Fighter and one that was unable to surpass or for that matter just get to the level that VF is one?? Then Tekken was released, and took a different approach to the genre, while DOA contiuned to not only take from VF now it took pieces from Tekken.
Now, finally, DOA has started to head in its own direction, issue being that where it wants to go, both VF and Tekken have been there and are starting to look for new ideas to pursue.
Itagaki sickens me, acting like a total fool, and acting like the only things that he creates are good. News flash… Ninja Gaiden was stale, DMC took that crown as best platform / action. DOA will be second to VF/Tekken/SC until the community smartens up and starts to respect its peers rather than trash them. Itagaki, man… this guy needs some help, or an ass kicking… perferably the later.:lame:
Well the Tekken team had every right to bash DOA considering it’s always been a shallow VF clone with softcore porn.
Well a buddy of mine runs a prominent video game review site website (VGOnetwork) and with MrWizard ran EVO. He does interviews and shit for his website and such.
Well, at E3 this year he did an interview with itagaki, who knew he does evo. Itagaki pretty much BEGGED him to put a DOA game in EVO. My buddy said no one plays DOA seriously. Itagaki kept crying about it, which is the only reason DOA was even on the poll to be voted for. Of course it wasn’t at EVO because no one voted on that garbage. It’s just funny how he whines like a bitch for his shitty game to be in a big tourney.
DOA is trash. It’s on par with MK:D in shittyness
Come on people both DOA and Tekken started out as VF clones, hell it can be argued Tekken more so. Tekken just developed a much better backstory for its characters, especially its main character. Meanwhile DOA branched out into becoming the softcore cyber porn it is known for and the easy countering system.
LOL i knew my post can be altered by a mod when I post stupid shit like this.
In other words take your dumb shit somewhere else, its not flying here. - Your Friendly neighboorhood Mod.
Actually Tekken didnt start as a VF clone, VF and Tekken are really far appart in almost every aspect.
I wonder if Itagaki tries to beg for his shit to be in SBO too. lol
You’re not serious, are you? It’s blatantly obvious what they took from VF, and it’s been part of the series since its incarnation. Even Tekken 5 integrated parts of the VF series into its gameplay and aesthetics.
As for this list, anyone who still takes Itagaki seriously needs to lighten up.
Um no not even close, especially when tekken first started it was more 2D then 3D and the game mechanics arent even close to the same. Its blanantly obvious that there not even close to anyone who even pays attention to it.
Tekken plays like a 2.5D (if that makes sense) fighter, IMO. KOF:MI would go along the same line as well…
Thank you.
There are some serious punks in this thread.

Haha, he may be a troll, but at least he is a funny troll, unlike some of the oens that come up in this board. All hail Tekken and ice cream.

Having a face that looks like melted plastic can make one quite bitter.
As for this debate over the engines of each game, the current Tekken is clearly better than the current DOA. I’m curious to see how DOA4 actually is after reading that other thread about the engine, has an actual chance of being decent if it’s all true and it comes together.
Sorry Jae Hoon, but Tekken borrowed heavily from VF.
High, mid, low mixups? VF did it first and don’t pretend this was already standard in fighting games. It wasn’t until ST that SF got command overheads. Before that, the only thing that qualified were jump attacks.
Stomp moves? Even if both games have departed from the “knockdown then stomp” gameplay, Tekken also adopted this from VF at first.
Floaty jumps? check
Stupidly long time lying prostrate and helpless on the ground? check
Mid and low rising kick from grounded position? check
2-d gameplay wrapped in a 3-d package? check
duckable throws? check
button strings and single direction commands? check(again, don’t pretend this was the norm before VF)
Tekken differed in that it had 4 attack buttons, no guard button and certainly “felt” different. It also offered a few extra options on the ground like the kip up and the cross bar as well as the running tackle(which led to nothing). Apart from that it introduced ten strings(pretty useless addition) and multi-throws(which would become pretty useless in subsequent games). Now the biggest innovation to my mind was the inclusion of moves specifically tailored to perform juggle combos. There were no wgf style moves in VF(apart from maybe the knees, but they didn’t allow for more than one or 2 extra juggle hits). Tekken did bring something new to the table in this respect.
Bear in mind, VF was THE seminal 3-d fighting game. I can’t blame Namco for building on that model since they did eventually go in their own direction, but you can’t deny the original similarities.
