Saying it’s a painful word with a painful history is inarguable, but “we own it we say it with pride!” is dumb shit people say in debates without realizing that in most communities, it’s strictly a colloquialism and is used out of habit not conviction or higher purpose.

If you think it’s about exclusivity, you really aren’t paying attention. It’s far deeper than that. People saying ‘hurr it’s just a word’ need to get the fuck off the set until they take a history class that doesn’t worship/revolve around white people.

That’s because there’s no need to. Just like most white humor, the joke is just so in your face and blunt, there’s nothing to be said. A group who’s culture consists of nothing other than being completely devoid of culture needs no offensive nickname, as the typical white American lifestyle is already its own worst insult. I don’t fault anyone for participating in mandatory schooling, but you should take your education at something more than face value, and more importantly realize when/how the information being spoonfed to you is biased.

As for where FOBio is coming with his line of reasoning, he’s telling you that you is that there is nothing wrong with these words unless directed at someone in a derogatory way. Otherwise they are simply words. They aren’t inherently offensive in and of themselves.
