Well compared to the DC version of the series they’ve fixed a few things, but i’m not sure if it’s for the better. I haven’t played the ps2 version of the TXR series so i’ll only be comparing it to the dc version.
First off the handling of the cars feels a lot “better”. Meaning when you buy you’re stock car at the beginning of the game turning won’t be much of an issue. The problem i have with that is, i don’t feel like there’s a reason to upgrade other than to gain speed/accel. My first car is a skyline coupe and it handles really well, in the previous games most stock cars hanndled decently, but you definitely need to upgrade almost everything, then head to the garage and tune to how you want it to race. I don’t get that feeling so far since you can drive pretty much flawlessly without changing your settings.
Secondly, the driving mechanics are different. The handbrake is very weird. I don’t even see a reason to use it on the C1 inner/outer. So far it seems like if you wanna drift you’ll have to just downshift or downshift and brake depending on your speed. Scraping walls won’t kill your speed like it did before. Now, it’ll slow you down a little unless your on the wall for like 10s. The sense of speed, blur effect and traffic is there but they cut out some of the views. TXR2 had 4 or 5 views IIRC, in this one it’s cut down to 3 which kinda sucks. I usually drive in the 3rd person mode and they way they have it obscures your view of what’s ahead. In TXR2 they had a 3rd person view with the camera positioned perfectly so you can see what’s in front of you. Maybe they’ll release a patch to inlclude the other 2 3rd person views from TXR2
Last is the gameplay. I’ve only played about for an hour and a half and the AI doesn’t cheat like it did in the past, lol. No more zipping through corners like crazy, or overpowering your car even when you’re hundreds of pounds heavier, the game seems a lot more fair. One annoying thing is that the other rivals on the road still have the “R” indicator over them, so it can be confusing while you race.
I’ll try playing online tonight after i’ve upgraded my car and post my impressions of the online play.
I was wondering what that was you were playing. I had the 1st TXR on Dreamcast ages back and quite enjoyed it. Please post back with how you find the game after a little more play.
Oh and also, do you know how many routes there are in this version? My only gripe with the DC version was the lack of tracks, but was still generally a fun game.
Try looking for TXR2. It improves on TXR1 so much. More cars, more track, more rivals, more customization and a lot more tuning options. I used to spend anywhere from 20 - 45 min. just tuning my car for a particular part of the track i wanted to race. You can even create your own custom sticker…down to the pixel:wow:. In this version they cut out the new track in TXR2, and included 2 new areas. They put in parking garages where you can go and race other teams and find the wanderers. You can also tune your car there instead of leaving the track, making you start a new day. The only thing their missing is allowing you to customize your own sticker.
As far as online play goes, it plays extremely well. I didn’t notice any lag when playing. I also realize why they made the handling easier. They probably did it to compensate for online AND to help new players get into the game. I highly recommend anyone who’s played the other TXRs to pick this up.
I only owned the PS2 ones, TXR3 improved on TXRZ in sooooooooooooooo many ways but people bitched about there being only 1/2 he cars cause of the license fees and the fact that that they totaly redid the car modles (TXRZ had the same car models as the DC ones)
So far I’ve heard that ITC is TXR3 but better looking and w/ Online Play - that ain’t a bad thing at all…but I heard this game had SHIT for car selection.
Don’t really care, as long as it has 180SX, S15 Silvia and 3000GT/GTO’s and I’ll be fine.
Looks like I’m geting a 360 Next Month, people are still playing KOF NeoWave and since that ain’t BC - I’ll be on the old box for just a little longer.
They better put some CURRENT 2D Fighters on this system, and FAST.
