yeah that shit is madd wierd. Andy if its possable change it to player 1 side

yep, fo sho.

and, ggxxs is ill, good shit.

wow everyone ggxx slash out.

Hey Guys,

It’s Andy. I apologize if this post is super long, due to the fact that time is a factor, I am sick as a dog and will be returning to bed after this post, I have to cram it all in.

I talked to Gavin today and he told me there were two issues of concern that I need to be made aware of. I usually have Gavin do all the coordination, but since this is urgent, I wanted to post asap.

**#1 Third Strike buttons. **

Gavin told me that some people don’t like the button layout on the 2p side of Third Strike. I do agree that the buttons are slanted. When I made the doubles cab, I had to make a choice, between using the left half and having straight buttons on the 2 player side, or use the right half of the panel and have the 2P side on the right.

I initially thought having the straight buttons would be better, but it would feel too strange having the 2p side controlled by the left half of the panel. So I decided to keep the 2p on the right, because it felt more natural.

However, there is nothing binding us to this. Arcades in Japan, do have 2p on the left so to me it’s not an issue, I just was using the traditional layout of 1p left, 2p right.

So here’s where you come in.

I personally have no issue with the buttons, but it’s not my decision to make. This is your game center so I will do what you want.

I think the best way to do this is to take a vote and see what people want. This way when I make the decision I know it’s what everyone wanted. I really do want to do what’s best for the community, so please vote in the following manner

Third strike

“Move the buttons”

or

“Don’t move the buttons”

Pretty simple, eh? Just post one of those phrases, as it will make it easier to tally. Depending on what people want, I will make the switch first thing Thursday morning when I arrive at TGA.

#2 RANKING BATTLES

Gavin told me that people had issues with a flat $10 to enter all tournaments. We went with this plan because it would encourage more people to enter games they normally wouldn’t thus increasing the competition and interest in all games evenly. It does nobody any good to have everyone play CVS2 and 3S and not hold tournaments on the other games because we didn’t have enough entries.

My fear is that SSF2X, RF2, and MVC2 will be cancelled because of lack of interest / the feeling of “It’s not worth it to lose my entry fee”

I figured the ability to enter all tournaments and unlimited casuals for one price starting at Noon and going to 1 AM was a bargain.

I then took another look at it and decided that $10 would be impossible to do. So I made the decision that that the usual flat $20 that everyone pays, with , $5 going to prize money and the $15 to pay off our $8,000 fighting game debt, and buy 2 more candy cabs (for more games or doubles cabs) was a better idea. So I called Gavin to discuss this.

Upon calling Gavin, he told me that some people were not happy about the $10 so we should probably drop it and change it to $2 entry per game / pay per play. Winner takes all of the $2 entries.

I have no problem with this plan, if this is what you want, by all means, I will do it. I just figured the ability to play unlimited games was a better bargain for everyone and would allow us to make TGA 100% doubles cabs, much, much sooner.

I want TGA to grow, but I can only work with what I’m given. Keep in mind the Guilty Gear software alone was over $4000. Add in the cost of software for 7 cabinets, the cost of the cabinets themselves, which was about $800 each, Joysticks, buttons, and maintainence.

Please understand that I have to balance, paying bills, maintaining equipment, and getting new equipment, with fair pricing.

I appreciate every penny you have invested in TGA and I assure you I have re-invested it for the betterment of TGA, and I will ALWAYS do so.

Remember, no matter what I do, I will never satisfy 100% of the people. In a perfect world, every game would be free. But unfortunately, the fact of life is that everyone needs money to survive. TGA is no different. The TGA bills are not pretty.

If you know anything about me, you know that I am never stagnant. I always believe TGA can do better and I want to keep improving. I want us to get other fighting games, maybe a Vampire Savior, a KOF cab, or anything else you would enjoy.

Our progress depends on the amount of revenue coming in. 80% of TGA funds come from our $20 flat rate which is paid exclusively by the Bemani regulars. I have used that income to build the fighting game room in hopes that we could get more people interested in fighting games.

It is happening slowly but it IS happening. More and more TGA regulars are starting to play and slowly develop fighting game skills. Remember it’s going to take much time to catch up to the current level of you, our fighting game regulars.

I was also hoping that maybe investing in $20 twice a month not only help you have more fun, build the community and help us get more fighters sooner, I thinking MAYBE it would lead some of our fighters to branch out into some of the Bemani games in the front. We do have 2 exclusive machines that nobody else in the country has(Beatmania IIDX 12 and Pop’n Music 13), and for good reason, they are fun to play. However, they are VERY difficult to learn, but for unlimited games you can learn without the fear of having to pay another dollar every time you fail a song.

With 6 fighting games you could play 40 games (80 games if you play turbo) for the same price as the regular $2 pay per play, which would only get you 16 games. Thats, UNLIMITED Casuals before and after AND ALL tournaments.

For $20 you have 12 hours to play as many games as you want, in both the front and the back. Plus we can have bigger brackets and more people enter, as nobody will have the fear of “losing” money to an entry fee of a game they are not good at.

But again, I want to do what’s best for you and the community as a whole. So please vote in the following manner:

Ranking Battles:

$2 + pay per play

or

$20 flat fee.

So there you have it folks, I need your input asap. Please let me know what your feelings are. I personally care about every comment and suggestion and as always I promise to do my best to keep TGA current and moving forward.

If the $20 wins, then we could realistically have another candy cab and software before January.

If the pay per play wins, then I pray that we will have a good turn-out every two weeks to make up the difference and keep our expansion plans on track.

I will do my best and work hard with whatever your final decisions are. I respect you decisions and will always honor them.

Also keep in mind that the $20 deal is available every day for unlimited games, not just the ranking battles.

You guys are the best and it’s an honor to serve you. I hate talking about money but I want to be 100% honest with you and let you know where TGA is financially.

Roughly 98% of all revenue is put right back into TGA, the other 2% goes to my personal expenses, including my $5 subway sandwich, or $8 Chinese buffet and gas money once a week from Boston to RI ( I sleep at the store Thursday-Sunday, and only use the 2% after the tip jar has been rummaged).

I am 100% comitted to this community. I want nothing more than to give you a true Japanese game center that belongs to you and that you are proud of. I promised this community, long, long ago that TGA would never be a means for personal indulgence, your money would go right back to you.

For people who are new to TGA, people love TGA, because TGA is not a corporation, the owner is ot a detached money hungry arcade owner who says “Give me your money and leave” I am your fellow gamer and friend and always will be. I promise you that.

And will continue to do serve you, God willing that I am in good health and able to make ends meet.

This is an amazing community who stepped up to the plate and made the TGA fighting community second to none. You have much to be proud of, we accomplished this together. Let’s now move forward and look to the future to keep TGA at #1.

Respectfully

Andrew E McGuire

I am not a regular at TGA so my suggestions might not really count, I’ve only been there twice, but plan to go to some of the ranking battles.

The 3rd Strike(and for that matter MOST of the 2nd player sides on the cabs except the MvC2 one as far as I can recall) are a little iffy to play on. So my suggestion would be to change them, but not just change them to the 1p side. IF possible you guys should invest on single player panels for the doubles which have a perfect layout AND they’re centered. That way everyone’s happy(at least that’s what I think.) But, I guess this could wait and you could just switch it to 1p side until your financial situation is very stable and you can easily afford buying the above mentioned panels.

The $20 entry fee I really have to problem even if I were to go to every single RB. I mean you guys(TGA) have done an amazing job at giving us the players that Japanese Arcade feel and giving you $20 would be a pleasure if it means that by giving you that amount the experience will be much better, which i’m 100% will be the case.

So yeah that’s my 2 cents.

Third Strike : Move Buttons

Ranking battles: $20

//comments/// for people who think 20 bucks is to much the ranking battle is bi weekly so it shouldnt be that hard to shell it. everyone show up sat and lets get tga rocking great post andy

I think it is too much when someone only plays just 1 game exclusively. Im not thinking just for myself but there are others that only play 1 game and no tourneys charge over 10 dollars for a game especially SINGLE ELIM.

$5 a game, and 5 games for 20$

I’d pay 20 for all entries.
and the 3rd strike cab buttons need to match the 1st player side with the 2nd player side. 2p sucks, i miss mad buttons.

that sounds pretty good cb. i guess not alot of people play all the games so it makes sense

Thought i’d post up some matches of ECCX for the guys that couldn’t go:

I really dont see what the problem is with the buttons on 3S. If someone could explain it to me, that would be great.

Who is going tomorrow (friday, 14th)??? Canadian Bacon?

UPDATE:

SF3s sticks are now the same. Both are in good positions!

w00t:clap:

I’ll go if i can stay overnight somewheres ness! Gotta beast on the staff at ss2t! fuckin dj is so scrubby! all about og sagat though! original version is best man!
maybe FR?..i’ll call paul and check that shit…where u stayin’? CT? like a nerd!
…I’m gonna be the highest one there…paul quit twistin erbs! :smokin:

i’ve been high for like 4 weeks…fuck…

CB: hahaha

and to everyone else:

i’m working on a quick “Evo documentary”. and i mean like one days worth of hardwork quick documentary. I’m sure most of you have the dvd i’ve sent out. But this ones a “beefed” up version. lol you’ll see…

This might be a little too late but…

3rd Strike:
Move buttons. I think the buttons should be moved to the center, like somebody else posted earlier. The 2nd P. on the 1st P. might be a little confusing but it would be better than the 2p. side. A center pannel shouldn’t be that much…

Ranking Battles:
I can’t believe people were really complaining about the 10 cover charge. WTF! That was a bargain.
I think people don’t really understand that the main focus of this tourneys is to make EVERYONE get better and raise money for TGA to be better in the future. That’s why there are prizes instead of a pot. I think the 20 cover now is stupid! 15 for TGA and 5 for the pot… wtf? What’s the point in getting a small ass pot?
This is really a fun raiser! all 20 bucks should go to TGA. NO POT!!!.. prizes! (…ness)

Also a lil off topic:
I know that there is always the 20 flat rate cover for the fighters as well…
I don’t think that works the way it works for Bemani, because most of us have to drive far to get to TGA. We have to put 10 bucks in gas everytime we go to Woonsocket. Most of us have jobs and can’t be at TGA for 12 hours a day…
…but I would like to be there for 6… Andy can you take this into consideration and add a $10 flat rate for the fighters.
$20 for the whole day, $10 for half the day(6 hours)…

Last saturday when I was leaving I said a comment that I don’t think people liked.
I said: “Andy, I think Marvel should be a Quarter to play”… let me explain…

I remember when you were asking me if getting ST was a good idea. I said yes and no. It would be a hit if it was 1 token to play, 2 tokens would turn people off…
I’m glad you got it, cause it’s a big hit. I don’t think people would be playing ST if it was at 2 tokens.
That’s what’s happened to Marvel. Yes! it’s a “newer” game… but the fact is… (hurts me to say this) MvC2 is a almost dead game, I can’t even say it…
If you notice, not many people play Marvel right now. Reason is that people rather pay 2 tokens to play cvs or Slash or 1998’s 3rd Strike. The date a game was released has nothing to do with how much it should cost to play it. It’s all about the demand. Right now people wanna play cvs, Slash, 3rd… that’s bout it. Those games should BE 50 cents. ST should be 25 cents since we are trying to build a ST community. Same goes for Marvel, WE suck!.. and no one plays the game… well… the 2 tokens is a Big reason why…

…that’s just my 2 tokens!..
