so for about a year now, I’ve assumed that there was a spidey infinite in mvc2. I knew the angle, knew the height but never got it to combo past 2 reps. A few months pass by and a new spidey player pops up and we start talking about spidey stuff. Hit boxes, rush down strigs and I dropped my infinite knowledge on him. Told him the theory on the infinite to work and now there’s actually a spidey infinite in mvc2 that I’ve never seen anyone do. My concept was right, my setup was right but my timing was off. I shared a little bit of info and the infinite is now a reality.
If I have kept this little secret to myself about the probablity of the infinite happening, I would of probably figured it out down the road. Perhaps another year or 2 but by sharing my info with other players on the board, I’ve managed to shorten that to a matter of months.
The problem with sharing is sometimes you figure something so god like, you woudln’t want to share it immediately, insert valle CC in a2 here. However in this case, there were specifics that I couldn’t wrap my head around @ the time and as a whole of players, we figured it out.
I do sit on info that I want to keep to myself or with the group of players I know very well but there are times I think we should share with other members on the board. Not everyone here is a dumb fuck and there are some very intelligent people here who could possibly throw you an idea or 2. It might not be the idea you’re looking for but it could possibly lead to something else.
for game-changing discoveries (and gimmicks too), i think it’s best to share them with few, just save them for tourney. the more tools you have to radicalize your game play, the more of an edge you’ll have when it counts.
why? how many people got hit by valle cc before someone picked up on it?
from my knowledge, wong has been sitting on some marvel stuff that we as a community have just learned. He’s known things for YEARS having an advantage on the rest of us who did not know.
if winning and $$$$ is bitch made shit, sign me the fuck up.
STSFN didn’t come about because everyone felt like sharing…
Damn, how long you been talking about Spider Man in that game and finally something has come from it. Good shit Paul, I still won’t touch the game though :razzy:
Always share. The Japanese put strategies and flowcharts in books (Black book for VF, Yoga Book Hyper for ST), in magazines (Arcadia), on DVDs (Arcadia, X-Mania, Kuroda DVDs), and online (T.Akiba and the like).
Holding back information and strategies is anti-community in my opinion.
I feel it’s up to whoever developed the technique. If they spent the time researching and practicing their discovery, it should be their decision. Either way, new techniques will be seen and emulated by the community, and eventually made mainstream.
I’m in the “tell them” camp. Frankly I think that if you need some super secret shit to win, you should get better. If you tell someone about this tactic, then you will figure out its application better, you will learn how to combat it, and you will learn how to combat those things when you see it in action both from you and from other players.
Obviously it’s your call, but let me tell you a story.
Not too long ago, somebody who I won’t name came into the TvC forums announcing that they had found an infinite for a character who will also remain unnamed with a certain assist, but that they didn’t want to spoil it because they were going to bust it out at a tournament and win with some shit nobody had seen. No matter who asked, they refused to give out the information. So, a couple of us went to work looking for this, and within a day, we had found it out. One of us recorded it and posted it on youtube.
It soon became clear that this infinite was not really the most useful tactic around. It was a difficult and interesting find, but very hard to actually land in competitive play. However, it led to a number of other, more useful combos with other teams.
The person who originally posted about the infinite, at this point, got angry and demanded that he be credited with the infinite that he said he found but didn’t tell anybody about. Basically not only was the tournament viability and practical usage for this strategy not explored for him due to him hiding it, but once it was found out, he also wasn’t credited with finding it out, since someone else made it public first.
Obviously it’s your choice, but I’ve always felt what makes the community better, makes everyone in it better. So if you feel you’re good enough to win without resorting to some gimmicks, I’d say share.
Yeah but guess what, this is all shit that doesn’t matter in the worldly macrocosm of the FG community. Valle was hoarding CC combos back before we ever even rated Japan or anyone outside of our shores. But in these days, all of the players who make decent money off of fighting games want to travel to Japan to compete. And guess what happens every time they go over there? They get raped, level up substantially because they were around nothing but superiors, and come home and level up their niche community a bit, due to sharing what they learned while they got their heads busted. And this was all after they payed out the ass to get schooled in Japan. Pretty much no money made in the end, but at least they got to experience what a real community is like and transfer a piece over to ours.
But seriously, there are so many things that are plights on our own community that we simply cannot surmount, why would you intentionally weaken the scene by making yourself temporarily “better”?
Players become stronger while surrounded by equals and superiors. It is not only lonely on the throne, it is highly detrimental. We need to all build up together, and one of the most crucial ways to do so is by sharing all information. It forces us to constantly adapt and improve, and eventually raises the skill bar exponentially.
If there are dudes who are winning legit money from FGs who don’t care about the scene(which there aren’t), then fine, thanks for being a pock mark on the community. And Wong can hoard Marvel info all he wants, it isn’t like that game means anything at all. But for games that matter, keeping secrets is the epitome of bitch made shit.
If the gimmick is not game breaking, good players:
Adapt to it
Avoid it
New discoveries are for the most part shared before, during, or after a tourney. Perfect example to this is me vs Choi B3. Not only did Choi adapt to the CC strat, he used it against me.
wow words of wisdom. Yeah the Valle CC was sick, but not everyone is as good as John Choi is.
Anyway, no one plays Marvel anymore. But I do have a few questions, I see it worked on commando who is average height and weight. How does it work against smaller characters like Psylocke? And also how well does it work on Sentinel? Also I would think this would be a great infinite to setup with a cyclops or psylocke assist. I do however finding this infinite going the way of the Cyclops infinite, sorry to say. It seems like a hard infinite not to drop, unless you have a shitload of resets ready like Magneto. Also if it can only be started on the ground, I find it useless. No one is going to stay on the ground and be launched by spidey. Still it’s Marvel, so what setups go into the infinite, and what resets can be done from it is still up in the air.
