Mandel and I were talking to ghrrk about this last night, and since this EVO is going to be a lot of peoples first EVO I just wanted to share this with all of ya’ll.
So with less than a week away whose getting their jitters up? Who is getting hyped? We got FIVE DAYS before we head to Vegas and show the rest of the world what is up here in the NW. There are some ppl that are hyped, and there are some that are feeling a little nervous. So here’s some quick tips from yours truly to get you through your EVO experience:
The hardest match you’ll ever have will always be YOUR FIRST MATCH. I told Ghrrk it’s like getting a shot for the first time you get yourself all worked up over it and when it’s over you realized that “wow that was it?” The key here of course is you realize that after losing your first match so now you’re like shit! I need to claw my way past possibly 1000 ppl =. Trust me guys DO NOT go in nervous. It’s just like Preppy’s house or GameClucks. My first game @ EVO 2k2 I was a wreck. They made us partner up with our opponent and had us wait in line for the cabinets and honestly I thought my opponent could see into my soul. I remember casually talking to him to try to get some info out of him and when I heard he was from Cali I was saying in my head “Oh shit, oh shit oh shit oh shit this guy is gonna beast on me!”. But what really calmed me down was is he asked me where I was from too. And after I told him I was from Seattle he said out loud. “Oh god” This guy was nervous about playing me?! Seattle’s low-mid tier at best? Needless to say his nerves shot his game and my confidence boosted beyond the stars and I SMASHED on him.
CONFIDENCE CONFIDENCE CONFIDENCE!!! It’s your deadliest weapon @ EVO. You step up to your first match ready to play full of confidence, your opponent is going to see and feel that extra pressure, and I’m telling you most of these cats they don’t handle pressure that well, (shit some of us up here don’t handle it that well). So you want to go in with that feeling of “I’m going to win here, I’m going to show these random people that I’m probably never going to see again what Seattle is ALL ABOUT”
Lastly to all the fresh faces please when you find out about your pool let me know when you play, I don’t care if you have to text me/call me/page me (although I’d rather not want you guys to have Mr. Wiz yell for me over the megaphone lol). LET ME KNOW WHEN YOU PLAY AND LET OTHERS KNOW WHEN YOU PLAY. When ppl see you have a crew behind you, it lets gives the impression that you are some hot shit. THAT PEOPLE WANT TO WATCH YOU BEAST ON YOUR HELPLESS VICTIM! That can fuck some ppls minds up.
So to all my fresh faces (Riki, Duggish, Ghrrk, Jalapno, Bokkin, Hyre if he’s going, Elliot if he was going Josh and Jacob again if jacob was going. I might be missing a few here, but you know who you are if we’ve been playin at Gameclucks or Jalapno’s). I can say that I’m proud of you guys. You guys came into team seattle new and like diamonds in the rough, and now look at you guys. You mother fuckers are READY!!! And I know you guys are gonna make me proud to be apart of the NW. You guys are the future of our scene…and honestly us old farts couldnt’ve have a better group to carry the torch onwards. Just don’t get too cocky cause we old school heads will come back to knock some sense into ya lol.
