How in the hell do I make clean lineart with a tablet? Everything I do ciomes out looking like a sketchy, scribbly mess. If I try to do each line in one long, smooth stroke, I can’t get the line’s shape exactly the way I want it. If I try to “sketch” in the lines with several small strokes, I can get the line the shape I want, but it looks like crap. And I hate the pen tool because it looks too mechanical and artificial. Any advice here? I used to think that I was decent at drawing, and now I’m beginning to wonder if I’ve just been fooling myself the whole time…
Also try to squish your brush in the brush tip shape. Round brushes give a better stroke when squished.
what do you mean by squish? change the shape of the brush so its more like an oval instead of a circle?
felineki: just learn to control your lines better, use your whole arm instead of just your wrist. It’ll come over time. I need help with it myself.
Anyone got any tips on what to simplify on a spinal cord to learn it? I try to find some basic geometric shapes in it and have found none. Drawing each column is rough.
^ break it down and understand each vertebrae… each one looks a bit like a classic tap handle – cylindrical centre with 4 bulbous spokes, but with each spoke kinda flattened. Keep in mind the taper of the spinal column and adjust the size accordingly.
you might want to confirm the number of vertebrae in each section – there’s a definite number between the head & neck (cervical vertebrae IIRC), between the shoulders to the lower back, and along the curve of the spine. Adjust the proportions accordingly if you’re doing fantasy stuff.
Dfist yeah that’s exactly what i meant.
Listen to the Doctor Rook there he seems to know what he’s talking about.
^ excellent find TRT
check your pm’s Pete.
is there a place where I can dl caption bubbles for comics?
there are premade bubbles ps. Go to the shape tool. After you click on that go above to the header and scroll down or append different shapes including comic bubbles.
nice drawing/colour tutorial --> http://www.itchstudios.com/psg/art_tut.htm
good info on the site too (knock off the part after the last “/”)
SFMC: Cool, thnx
Rook: Nice tut. Very useful stuff on there
I remember that TUT! I coulda sworn I faved it or saved it earlier! Oh well, I got it now.
I’m picking up perspective and relearning colors and tones.
Shortcut keys tut
This tut will be about shortcut keys and what functions they provide. I will be updating each shortcut on a daily basis. After I thoroughly explain and finish up the tut, I will probably have rook append this in the tips section.
I think this will not only help you to understand the tools, but I hope this will enhance your speed. Have fun and good luck.
word. This is gonna be cool
worth noting: I is the normal hotkey for the eyedropper tool, but holding alt is the way that you access it while using the brush, paintbucket, or gradient tools.
Hey Pete! I know that Apple is Control, but what is control and option on a PC? Is Option equal to Alt?
I LOVE keyboard shortcuts, it let’s me be all over the place in a small amount of time.
And with PCs, you have menu commands too! Some of the things in the menus have hotkey commands, like Undo, but some don’t, like rotate canvas. So, I’ve memorized a lot of the ones I use the most, like alt+I, M, G will switch color mode to greyscale, and alt+E, A, 0 will rotate a selection 90 degrees clockwise! O_O
Tab is the greatest hotkey ever, it just makes all of your menus go away or come back at the touch of a button. And Shift+Tab will do the same, except it only affects your submenus like Layers or Colors and swap them on and off without flickering your toolbar and info bar too. Sweeetness!
Some of the ones you listed I didn’t know about. I’m looking forward to hearing more about them.
hey Ron, you can create your own actions in photoshop so you don’t have to press 3 keys to do something.
-Go to windows>action to show the action window
-hit new action then name your action and assign a fuction key and color (never got the color to work)
-record your action and hit stop once you’re done
now you can repeat your action with the a single key press!
I first learned this from www.phong.com
cool tut sfmc. You should record a vid of you working in real time so we can see all the crazy shortcuts being utilize, your hands flying all over the place hahaha.
