Depends on the artist, but fundamentally an artist should understand the placement of bone structure because in some instances those things need to be emphasized as well. Without bones, muscles wouldn’t have anything to really hold onto anyway. You get to a point where don’t need to put it in each drawing but its something that is very important, even if it just becomes intuitive.
Not sure if anyone has posted these yet. A bunch of great photoshop tutorials to check out:

Anyone have tips on using wacom tablets for coloring?
I feel like I’m fighting this shit…it does not do what I want it to do
anybody know any good tuts or have any tips about drawing things like armor or mech type stuff from the mind? i’ve never been good at that stuff for the life of me.
http://www.thegnomonworkshop.com/dvds/csc01.html
tips for painting in Photoshop. tutorials presented here are good for versions from PS 5-CS2/3.
since its from Gnomon, you know the price is real demanding. good luck on getting the money.
I also have The Structure Of Man, by Riven Pheonix. Its good. very good. his methods will seem foriegn and strange at first, and you might have a hard time comprehending his ways of artistic thinking, but as anything that is new to you, after you keep at it for a while, it gets easier. his ways are better than any How To Draw book, imo. and this is coming from a guy who has bought all of the How To books in the market.
His approaches of teaching usually involves different ways of measureing and lining up different shapes for proportions sake. this might seem wierd to those who arent used to his “careful” approaches of drawing the human figure.
It takes some time to get adjusted to tablets at first, may I ask what tablet your using also? If it’s a wacom check to see if you have the latest drivers installed on your PC for the tablet. That helped me out at first since I didn’t know crap about updating the drivers for the tablet. The rest is just mostly practice adjusting to how it works and eventually you the hang of how it works for you.
I usually look at reference from armor samurai books and things of that nature. Though I haven’t really drawn much armor related stuff myself but that is just what I would do if I needed to draw it. Then from there you can start changing the styles of the armor and eventually it sticks in your head how the designs are done.
I’m using Shi-Painter for use offline, but I find that my default canvas size is too small. How can I make the canvas size larger?
Does anyone have any tips or tutorials for drawing hands in various poses? I have lots of trouble getting the basic shape and the overall form right. How should the hand be broken down into simple shapes like squares, rectangles and circles when the hand is in a weird pose?
yeah, breaking them down into shapes helps a lot, but just drawing them as often as you can is the best thing. Dont just focus on the hands though, also look at where the hand joins the wrist because if you draw that right it makes the hands look way more believable.
Hi what kind of paper should i use for painting with inks? Only success i had so far is cardboard and it feels kind of ghetto.
I have tried a variety of papers and they all get to saturated.
You mean like inkwash?
Probably 2-ply plate bristol or hot-press illustration boards which is the same thing, just thicker.
this maybe what ur looking for if not there are more videos on the site. Learned a lot form this site so its worth looking at.
Lots of good tutorial links.
Anyway know good tuts or can anyone pass tips for digital painting?
I think what I really need to do is setting up the brushes for DPing.
Hi guys, just wanted your advice. Are any of these wacom tablets good? I’ve read the thread and a lot of peeps mention the Intuos ones, but I haven’t seen any mention these models. Are they any good?
