I just bought Third Strike Online Edition and I seem to be struggling with parries. I get that you press toward or down before an attack hits you, but I can’t seem to do it. How do you practice doing the parry?
There’s a parry training mode challenge in the game isn’t there?
I’ve tried it, and did it up to challenge 3, but I want to know how to practice the timing and how to parry multiple hits.
forget about the challenges
from main menu: single player -> parry training
use the save state feature to replay the dummy’s moves more efficiently. record important but basic things like projectiles of various hits and commonly used moves. its too bad that you can’t record multiple slots and then randomize playback like in some other games, but eh. pretty sure there are ways to set the dummy to parry everything you do, so use that first if you can’t understand the timing of parrying a certain move
Thanks, I did what you told me to, and I can parry most common attacks and specials. Now to practice parrying Super Arts!
Parrying super arts is kinda worthless things to learn parrying.
- Fireballs
- EX Fireballs
- SRK in the air
Those 3 rhythms will repeat themselves ALOT in other things and be the most useful
Also any time you throw tap forward or down then throw first. If you want to be leet you can do tap parry->kara throw and that is called an SGGK which is an amazingly strong offensive tool.
I’d like to add a 4th to that list: long-range lunging attacks (Urien tackles, Q dash attacks, Alex elbow slashes, etc). Not only because it gives you the option to punish otherwise semi-safe options, but a lot of people telegraph these attacks, and it’s possible to parry them on reaction if you can see them coming.
As I was playing I learned how to red parry which makes dealing with Super Arts a tad bit easier, as you said, parrying them is useless. I’m gonna sound super noobie right now, but what’s a Kara-Throw?

It’s essentially cancelling the first start-up frame of an attack into a throw. If the attack moves the character during that first frame, you get some additional forward movement (and therefore range) on your throw. It’s got to be done extremely quick (it’s a 1-frame window, I believe), but it’s extremely useful for a lot of characters.
Thank you guys for the help, I was wondering if there’s a section for character specific tutorials and advanced techniques. I really wanna get good with Alex.
