Time to Grow Up: Toys ‘R’ Us Closing

I’m the same way but with G.I. Joe. I use to love going into Toy R Us as a kid. The joy I felt even though sometimes I would come out with nothing. There was two main reasons for that, the first reason is that I took extreme care of my toys. Even to this day, my mom was surprised how well I took care of all my toys. I never threw them away unless they broke after a while. The second reason was my mom would basically go all out of Christmas. So when one Christmas rolled around, I was still playing with toys from the previous Christmas.

i bought SSF2 from TRU.
the only time ive ever been to one.
i checked the website see if there was anything there on clearance sale and of any value. nope. everything was trash. good riddance.

now if ebay goes …i go with it

Last major memory was waiting outside one for a GameCube and Smash Melee. I used to love going there just to play SNES/Genesis/N64/PS1/PS2/GameCube demos. I’d love to gaze upon the crazy huge Lego sets they had on display.

Alas kids these days are on tablets and other electronics more than on what we consider toys now. The digital age continues to replace the physical world.

Fond memories waiting at local Toys R Us store to play Super Mario 64. The company should’ve adapted; this is BlockBuster all over again. Thank you at least for the memories.

People keep blaming online shopping on this company’s fall when in actuality they’ve been fucked from all the debt they inherited when they were bought out back in 2005. They literally went from being in the green to the red overnight because of that. Stores were already starting to close down even back then and the debt has snowballed until where it’s at now. There was truly never really much they could have done about it.

The fucked up part is, I don’t see how that legal, to buy out a small company, and unload your debt on to them and have them fend for themselves.

Big fish eat little fish world. It’s the same as unloading debt from one credit card to another. It’s still the major companies money and they will still have to pay back that debt, toys r us or no.

KB and Toys R US = ninja turtles, gi joes, and hot wheels. RIP

Bain Capital’s business model is basically to come in, restructure everything on the company they’re taking over’s dime, reap the profits, and stick them with the debt which leads to them inevitably having to close stores, declare bankruptcy, go out of business, or a combo of all three. They did it to Guitar Center and several other companies. Mitt Romney & Bain are basically corporate vampires. I dunno why any company wanting to stay in business would hire them.

I seem to distinctly remember Toys R Us banking on the Virtual Boy. How that must’ve stung!

KB TOYS COULD RETURN TO REPLACE TOYS ‘R’ US

https://nerdist.com/kb-toys-return-replace-toys-r-us/

the best news might be what this could mean for the nearly 33,000 Toys ‘R’ Us employees who will soon be out of work, because KB is already asking for them to send in resumes.

I’ll never forget the time I picked up my Dreamcast there.

I’ll never forget it because they lost my pre-order. My mother raised absolute hell making sure I got it. They miraculously found one in the back after about 2 hours of fierce yelling.

Anyway, I recently went there on one of my rare days off, and honestly, it’s hard not to immediately understand why they went under. While it feels like a step above K-Mart in terms of cleanliness and aesthetics… it’s still in that same ball-park. Combine that with the grossly overpriced items you can get for much cheaper online, they weren’t going to last for much longer even.

Looked for video games, didn’t find any - even the stuff on clearance was way more than I’d pay at Wal-Mart or anywhere else. Looked at board games, again, didn’t find any - there’s a number of specialty shop that have them cheaper; hell, even Barnes & Nobles had them cheaper, and they’re already not worth shopping at outside of clearance season.

Ultimately settled on a Mega Man amiibo ($9 on clearance) and a Pink Raven Rock Candy ($11 TRU exclusive). They had Sailor Moon and Street Fighter S.H.Figuarts along with some other figure stuff I would have been interested in, but they were all AT LEAST $10 more expensive than on Amazon.

This death of an American icon did not have to happen. Levered Buyouts should not be allowed.

I hope! I was more a KB toys kid!

KB had better deals honestly. My greatest find at KB Toys was the Laser Optimus Prime right at the end of the Generation 2 line. I snagged it new for $15

Here they even had stuff like the X-Men vs Street Fighter/Marvel vs Capcom figures back in the day for Kay Bee Toys. Heck they use to sell sega master system games.

I agree that KB Toys had better deals but size turned me off the most with them.
