Time to go to work, guys! Dante team building thread

I tried the team (Mag Dante xxx) with both Akuma and Sent last night, and def felt stronger with Sent, no question. I discovered the sH + drones xx Weasel shot for a free safe drone call a couple weeks ago (and wrote a big post in here about a strat involving alternating that with drones and hidden missiles), and find the Magneto+dones pressure + Dante with virtually free safe drone calls into teleports has tons of potential.

Whether I personally am good with the team, I dunno… I’m not that great. But the team itself feels really REALLY inherently powerful, and I can’t wait to try and figure out more stuff with it. I also finally figured out the TAC into Magneto grav-tempest timing for all directions so as long as I can stay ahead of the rock paper scissors game (which I usually can), it’s got pretty easy TODs without having to get too fancy.

I’m trying to find some examples of strong players using Dante+drones tricks. Mugetsu used to use this team exactly I believe, so I’ll def be checking out his old games. But yeah Nini, we talked a little bit about Dante+Sent before… anything other tricks you discover I’m all ears! Also, if you haven’t already, try Magneto out w/ them, it’s pretty f’n fun!

I tried Magneto, definitely a sillly character. His corner pressure/mixup is monstrous with both Jam Session and Drones. Up down up down, where the fuck are you gonna block; oh wait, he grabbed you.

Problem is I’m one of those players who don’t like doing simple shit, so i’m always dropping Rom or Magnetic blast loop, so I tend to stay away from him. Probably my biggest shortcoming as a FG player to be honest.

LOLOL I love it! yeah I do the basic fly loop, which similarly kept me from Mag. but I figured out why I had been unable to finish with unfly into grav into glitch, plus I figured out the TAC into glitch, so now Im all about em. Main downside is since I cant grav loop, I cant do unfly into glitch midscreen. So it goes LOL

Also for Magneto, I like Weasel Shot. I asked Chrisis about that too, he also said Weasel is significantly better for Mag rushdown. But anyway, I really really want to turn Dante w/ drones into a dirty dirty weapon. Stinger+drones xx reverb into mixup on block, as well as close sH+drones xx weasel shot both allow for a safe drone call, afterwhich we can teleport or whatever. Though i was curious your opinion on this:

I tend to think of those who would teleport into a jS as kinda scrubby overall, BUT, within the context of the drones mixup, especially when mixed with an EMPTY teleport into low, or even a late air normal, seems like falling with a quick jS is actually not so bad here. Between drones connecting and the ability to cancel into hammer or whatever, I may actually have to become one of “those guys.” LOL

Drones+j.S->hammer is so dirty.

Especially since you can fake the hammer (do it low enough so hammer doesn’t hit them). Lol fake overheads.

I got a little trick I do with drones, Drones+ J.S>airplay>Airdash>J.H crossup. Don’t use it that often though, they have to respect you for it to work well.

Respect in MARVEL? How do you manage that? I can’t get people to stop trying to bulldog their way out of shit (even though they just die trying).

I agree with Weasel shot over Jam session with Mags. It let’s you do trijump L mixups. Instead of Sent, I run Wesker in anchor and use Samurai Edge, hypergrav, grav loop, dhc glitch. His OTG assist isn’t necessary to glitch if you can unfly, however, even though I can do the unfly combo, the height requirement between you and the opponent is important for unfly H to hit. I find it way more consistent to just knock them down with jS after a fly combo. I also prefer lv3 xf Wesker (sooo fast) over lv3 xf Sent (easily lamed out by run away). The trade off is I lose drones pressure to setup mixups, but on the other hand I get unblockables with Mag’s fly S + Samurai Edge. With Dante, I’ll do airplay, land, teleport jH+Samurai Edge.

I definitely considered this, with Wesker, but didn’t feel confident in my ability to rush (or zone for that matter) with Mags without some sort of space control assist. Do you find you rely on Weasel shot? Or more just play a solo Mag with the trade off of Dark Wesker Rises?

Alsi, I’m quite interested in the unblockable prospect with the Fly S, but between opponents moving around so much, and being able to roll one way or the other on knockdowns, I find myself unsure really when is really even a good/safe time to even attempt this (since I can’t, like, do a Trish Round Harvest into hard tag blah blah). In what situations do you even get a chance to set this up? If the answer to this question is practical and realistic, I’d very VERY strongly consider trying Wesker out in Sent’s place. God knows I’m better with wesker than I am with Sent on point LOL

Likewise, when and how do you attempt the setup with Dante teleport and Wesk assist? You put after air play, which is good, are there any other good setups? Im at work so cant go into training, but does stuff like sL+gunshot, sM xx teleport (like Felicia unblockable) work properly? Or something like Stinger+gunshot xx BC xx teleport?

Basically if both points can realisitically set these unblockables up without the opponent having to sit there waiting for it, I’d likely give up my sweet sweet drones for them J

For midscreen, yea, I definitely rely on weasel shot. Calling Dante out is more dangerous than calling drones from full screen away, so I do addf H, hit a few c.L’s and call Dante. Then get a few trijumps in and hopefully something hits, the weasel shots help to hit confirm since the combo counter goes up so fast upon anything hitting.

For corners, I’ll use the same setup above but call Wesker at the same time I fly, by the time j.S comes down, the gunshot will be coming in simultaneously. You are right that with opponents moving around it’s hard to get an unblockable setup going, thats why I don’t attempt this midscreen.

I practically never approach with Dante by himself, so I never use s.L+gun, s.M, teleport, but that timing seems like it would work, maybe I’ll try it tonight. I don’t do stinger, bc, teleport either, so not sure. The way I get in with Dante is always airplay, land, call disruptor, teleport, j.H. If it gets blocked, call Wesker+box jump H. Here I guess you can substitute with s.L+gun, s.M, teleport.

Very interesting. Would be nice having an anchor that’s also a powerful point. I’ve just always been so reliant on assists for getting in and/or doing mixups. But I suppose Weasel Shot or Cold Star (I play Ammy too, and no doubt she would enjoy a gunshot hitting as she air dashes in!) could do a pretty good job of setting Magnus up to, you know, be Magnus lol

Any video of you in action with this team? I’m curious to watch what you’re saying all play out. I know Josh Wong has used your team before. Good shit, thanks! Any other key interractions they have, I’m definitely all ears(eyes?)!

Unfortunately, I don’t have any videos or capture equipment or anything. I’ve watched Josh Wong for inspiration but I think he runs Dante then Mags.

Basically, my entire game plan revolves around dhc glitch. Using weasel shot to help Mags get a hit, fly combo to corner, pick up with Wesker, grav loop or two, DHC glitch to Dante to touch of death any char.
On the next character, acid rain, cross unders, call wesker, teleport, then after launching them, I’ll use up or down tag (while they are still in the corner) back to Magneto, addf, hyper grav, DHC glitch to Dante, TOD.
The combo I do with Dante after glitch is volcano, jH, airplay, jH, H, S, jH, vortex, jS, cold shower, stinger, bc, jS, beehive, jetstream, fireworks. If that doesn’t kill, I call disruptor, reverb shock, fireworks to chip em out.
If that fails Dark Wesker is ridiculous to deal with. Not much to explain there, standard Viscant mixups. I think xf benefits this team the most for that comeback factor from Wesker. The only other time I’ll use it is if I happy birthday’d two chars with Dante and don’t want to waste that opportunity on Wesker’s crappy level 1 super.

This probably never happens but if Wesker is out and the other two characters are still alive, they have good synergy too. Gunshot+disruptor assist into L teleport works soooo well. Weasel shot to hold enemy after Samurai Edge OTG allows Wesker to go into level 3.

Yeah that’s a pretty solid game plan, bummer I suck at the Grav Loop, but I DID finally figure out how to get Mag’s TACs to go into Hyper Grav. Midscreen and corner, all 3 directions finally work! I’d inquire if you had any tips on simplyfying 2 reps of grav loop post gunshot, but it’s pretty off topic for this thread. Feel free to PM me if you have any advice. I’m pretty sure I know how it’s done, but think I’m mis timing the Hs or something : / Anyway, thanks for that. I love gameplan breakdowns like that, was pretty much EXACTLY what i was looking for :slight_smile:

Yo guyz, sorry if this has been ask already n passed on… But how do u guys approach mags n his strong zoning beam n shit with dante???

Who do you have on your team?
For Dante only, do a charged airplay and just before it hits Mag, teleport.

You can also throw out stinger f+H to absorb the projectile and bold cancel into either reverb shock or teleport after. Guess teleport works sometimes too since he has like 25 frames of recovery or so if he whiffs the beam. It’s just if he doesn’t do the beam and you teleport you’re probably gonna die. Having a good projectile assist like Doom/Iron Man beam to shoot from farther range with level 2 charge air play or rushing in with a projectile invincible assist like Akuma’s helps too.

If you really need to, just turn on Devil Trigger and beam him from the air (thunderbolt) or psycho crusher in (vortex).

Thanks guyz… well i play dante, wolvie n akuma in that order. I play this team from since the launch of the game, but i have no console n just play with my boyz when ever i get the chance. i like dante since his existence. lol. n i played wolvie in every fighter he was in just cause i like his beastliness. haha. But capcom really out do their selfs with the madness he can do in this fighter! n now that all this tech is out for the game, alot of ppl hate him. lol. but i like him still n even in the ultimate nerfs on him(wolvie) i still gonna play him, cause its logan man. :slight_smile: … well in ultimate vergil is coming, sooooo, logan will have to go on a nxt team cause twins rock together assist by akuma… lol. i love offence so am not letting akuma tatsu go, even if they nerf that too. he still will be one of the best lockdown/rushdown assist in the game… thanks again for the advice guyz. one love to all

Hey guys I’m new here and just posted this thread MVC3 Novice Looking for Dante advice
I’ve been reading this thread and looking for Dante team comp suggestions so if there’s any particular advice that would help a noob like me get started I’d love to hear it.

I’ve been running Dante Magneto Wesker and having great success. Cant think of a more fun team! Anyway, I was wondering if Dante had any known good welcome setups for incoming characters using Disruptas or gunshots. The whole Acid rain-assist-teleport thing doesn’t seem to work too well since they’re airborne (unless I’m doing it wrong, which is very possible). Any thoughts on dirty corner and/or midscreen setups w/ those assists aside from dash-under when midscreen?

Also, if anyone knows any good unblockable setups in general with gunshot (not necessarily on welcome), I’d love to hear. Call gunshot then box jump works well, as well as gunshot + immediate jS (though this one feels kinda scrubby and is hard to set up vs good players). When I go for sL+gunshot xx teleport, often the gun pushes them making the jM/H/S whiff on the way (which surprises me since jM and jH look like they’d be perfect crossups).

After seeing another guy use it in tournaments I’ve been working on using one or 2 charge multi lock (qcf+L hold) for welcome mix ups instead of acid rain. It doesn’t scale damage much at all compared to rain and does a long air stun and if it hits them on the ground puts them in a stun that lasts forever. Like you can take a breath, press buttons and still combo them if it hits them on the ground. You can do the same port around shit to create 50/50’s with it also. Once in a while the tracking may get wonky and not track them if you let the ball release too early but usually it works.
