Pot bonuses are dumb and fail to actually attract players. You’re best using that money to buy bus tickets for people or advertise to local pad warriors.
Well the pot bonuses are there because we want this to be bigger than a normal tournament. I dont see how that wouldnt attract more players than a local tournament. Money would be wasted on advertising seeing as the best advertising is done through srk or something free like facebook. I’ve tried other routes and its just a waste.
Pot bonuses only attract the biggest shark that’ll bother to come. And all the top players plan out who’s going to what so they don’t all compete for the same “free money”. Mid and low level players (which outnumber top players by a factor of 1000) aren’t incentivized to come b/c of pot bonuses b/c they don’t plan on winning.
Take that 1000$ and:
a. give out door prizes
b. put up fliers at colleges/high schools
c. pay for facebooks targeted advertising
d. pick up some lodging for out of town players.(not top players)
e. pay out beyond top 3
f. buy plane tickets for popular out of market players (west coast/ca) (even though i think this is a waste of money too)
g. pay for everyone’s venue fee.
It’s just common sense now. Take a lesson from other tourneys.
EDIT: Btw. not trying to hate or cause drama. I’m probably going to show up, cuz I’ve heard good things. Just offering my opinion.
thanks for the suggestions. I’ve done most of the things on your list already except pay for the venue fee and lodging. I could get a good price for the players on rooms if they wanted but paying for them is just too much of a liability and more of a hassle on my end because most people just dont know how hotels work when they arrive. The same goes for older adults because I see it everyday. Paying out beyond top three would be a good one though. I’ll think about that one. I wouldnt do the free venue fee only because I’m barely charging anything compared to other big events. So in a way I’m already helping out everyone there since I could easily charge 20 bucks and upward and pocket everything extra for myself. The door prizes I’ve always thought about but nowadays most people have their own sticks or systems but not everyone. I could also see those items just going up for sale on ebay or craigslist once someone wins them. Its still a good idea though. I dont mind any thoughts or advice. My feelings dont get hurt easily haha. I keep all the thoughts in mind.
