Thank you very much. I have some good memories of my sister always mashing her way to victory with the cat when we were younger. I want that game back so bad…
Clayfighter 1 and Clay Fighter 63 1/3 have almost the same top characters. Ickybod Clay, Taffy and Blob.
Clayfighter 1 would be like
AA: Ickybod, Taffy
A: Blob
B: Bad Mr. Frosty, Bonker, Bloo Suede Goo
C: Tiny, Hulga
Clayfighter 63 1/3 would look something like this
S: Ickybod Clay, Earthworm Jim, Dr. Kiln
AA: Blob, Taffy, T-Hoppy
A: Boogerman, Hougan, Bonker
B: Bad Mr. Frosty, Sumo Santa,
C: Kung Pow
You could probably flip around Bonker and under in any way, depending on the match up. But Ickybod is basically the XvSF Storm/Wolverine/Magneto of the game and Earthworm Jim is Cable but with mix ups. O: And Kiln is just fucking good.
Judgement Clay and Sculptors cut don’t exist, imo.
I enjoy the reviews on youtube but your site completely freezes my opera browser.
This is way different from what I remember. There was another version of CF1 called Tournament Edition where Blob was toned down a lot, for example.
That Gundam game had some neat mechanics.
I always figured Kensei Sacred Fist was crap. But damn, it sure was nice to look at for PSX era.
Are there any tiers for War of the Monsters?
Xena Warrior Princess - Talisman of Fate
I thought I would do a tier list for XWPToP, even though I am most likely the only person on the face of the earth who has even played this game LOL.
The thing with this game, even though it’s pretty terrible, all the characters have a chance at winning… well maybe except for Caeser. To be completely honest, this is probably all wrong but since I’m the only person that even cares, I guess it doesn’t matter!
Note: Projectiles are unblockables.
Anywaaay,

Character Breakdown
Lao Ma - Great normals and Specials, many that have crouch and jump priorities allowing to more easily avoid grabs, sweeps and projectiles. Her Hairpin is the only projectile that has crouching frames before the the projectile is thrown allowing her to pretty much counter most projectiles if you have a keen eye. One of the highest damage potential if not careful around her. Good range, an excellent jump in and really good AA. Excellent Air to Air. Both her, Joxer and Velasca are the only three characters with combos that contain projectile moves. One of the best grabs.
Joxer - Amazing damage output with great range and decent speed. Has access to Good projectiles and even has one that hits low which can catch people off guard since it usually safer to just duck projectiles. His only downside is he has no access to a sweeping attack which is a big hindrance to Joxer. His grab is actually pretty useful but is bad compared to the rest of the cast. Great Air to Air. Both him, Velasca and Lao Ma are the only three characters with combos that contain projectile moves.
Gabrielle - Great damage along with good speed and the best range in the game makes Gabrielle very strong. Has reliable projectiles including one that homes in on the opponent. Great Air game but ironically, has sub par AA even with the range she has.
Xena - Seriously good speed coupled with damage that is nearly comparable to Lao Ma and Joxer. She is able to easily punish most attacks. Her Chakram Throw applies extra pressure as it constantly bounces and is out for a LONG time. Her Fire breath pushes opponents back far but has a lot of startup. Her Air game is pretty average in comparison though. Only Xena and Autolycus have access to a dizzy combo.
Autolycus - Great damage with really great range and super fast pokes. Easily the best sweep in the game. Good projectiles, slow startup but with knockdown. One of the only two characters with a reliable dizzy combo. His air attacks (both jump and superjump) have weird priorities allowing him to hit twice and do pseudo cross ups.
Callisto - One of the few characters with reliable High/Low Mixups. Decent Damage, Good Combos, Very Fast, Really fast Fireball with knockdown but has slow startup. Fire Pillar is entirely useless outside of being a Meaty. Smaller range than most, but does not have much trouble getting in. Fast Jump ins. Average Air to Air
Ephiny - Has average damage but good range and fast normals (many with jump priorities) and specials with multiple hits, allowing her to rushdown and pressure better than every character, but her best block strings are unsafe if not hit at furthest possible range. Her only projectile has slow startup but is hard to dodge without crouching or jumping at full screen. Dangerous when she has you against the wall. Good Super jump ins and decent AA. Great Air to Air
Velasca - Below Average Range. Has Decent damage and enough speed so you can get in, but most of her normals can be punished if you are not careful. Aside from the unstable rushdown, the other thing she has going for her is her amazing Projectile game. She is perhaps one of the only characters that can reliably play keepaway with an extremely fast (and abuse-able) lightning ball and a slow moving tornado which homes in on the enemy allowing to effectively hold the opponent at bay. Below Average Air to Air. Both her, Joxer and Lao Ma are the only three characters with combos that contain projectile moves.
Ares - Good range. High Damage on Normals but has trouble getting in and hardly any combos so relies on knockdown resets since his moves are mostly unsafe. Mediocre projectiles besides his lightning for meaty knockdowns. Fire Circle has heaps of active frames but is too easy to be hit out of since slow startup and is useless besides providing knockdown.
Caesar - Has terrible range, sub par speed and projectiles which are nearly useless. The only thing he really has going for him is that his damage is half decent and his Air game is excellent.
tiers man tiers
Is there any rule againts extra information like character breakdowns?
Don’t think that was a shit game, but possible.
Personal tier list on Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects.
God Tier
- Paragon: She was broke, beyond belief. Her attacks were solid, her speed great, special movement was a teleport and her range attack shot out three separate orbs that chained damage together and did spectacular knock back. You could literally kill a character with 3-4 chain blasts or ring them out with one, which isn’t that difficult to get off honestly.
Top Tier
-
Niles Van Roekel: Very mobile long range fighter, despite having a large body type he’s pretty agile. His projectile is fast, shoots out two orbs, and has killer knock back and can but done during a jump or flight (Unlike some characters, his range attack doesn’t change during this process). His ground attacks and combos aren’t bad, and his throw/ air throw is decent for ring outs.
-
Iron Man: Incredibly powerful character, you’ll be flashing danger when he hits you with two Repulsor blasts. With flight and a quick ground dodge, as well as the ability to lift any object, Iron Man is a nightmare to play against if you lack a range attack. His problem is the Repulsor blast on ground takes up a lot of energy, is sort of slow, and his attacks/combos really suck. Most of his time is spent running and gunning, rarely mixing it up and looking for an easy ring out.
-
Magneto: My personal favorite character to use, Magneto is just fantastic. A match against him could be as short as ten seconds, and I am being serious. His power of magnetism lets ole Mags pick up any object on the map and fling it to his hearts desire.
That really big truck on the New York streets? Grab and toss, congratulations you just won the game. His power also didn’t take much energy, so after said truck throwing I can pick up a taxi repeatedly and smash it into the truck, explode both of them and win the round since you are stuck underneath.
What sets him back though is a wonky fly mode, a very shitty dodge, and his attacks were limited and left you in a lot of stun afterward if you missed (Though if you did actually land a hit, the opponent would sail across the map) and without meter he’s an easy target, end the game fast.
Mid Tier
-
Storm: Queen of the skies in a literal sense. Storm’s fly mode was gdlk, and her ground lightning strike turned into a rather large lightning orb that would knock you the fuck out in this mode. On the ground her lightning projectile was unique in that it struck from above fairly quickly, and if you didn’t dodge it prepare to eat a few more. Storm also has a sick special grab, it was really annoying to finally close the gap, only for her to make a wind tornado and throw you back. Modest damage, okay normal attack options and a weak ground game and the inability to pick up medium and heavy objects sets her back.
-
Human Torch: Such a fun character to use, kill them with fire is a very apt application of his shit. Basically to play Torch you need to channel the Torch: be an annoying prick, good looks helps. Torch has probably one of the more damage ground combos, pop up, special attacks in the game since he lunges forward fairly far on the first hit, chain two more into a pop up attack, then hit them with a fireball to safely knock them away. It’s simple, and fairly effective. He also has a great fly mode and his fireballs are just awesome, fast and deals modest damage.
His problem? Torch EASILY burns through his super meter, and the regen is a pain in the ass for him. Without fireballs his damage output sucks, and he can’t play keep away worth a spit. Johnny’s dodge is pretty terribad and his health kinda ticks down pretty fast, and he can only lift light objects. Still fun to use though.
-
Solara: The female Human Torch really, she shares all the same strengths/weaknesses as him for the most part. The difference is her ground fireball is massive, and travels pretty fast and a little better dodge, but worse damage output. They are mostly interchangeable here.
-
Johnny Ohm: The electrifying redneck is an interesting character in this game, as he can do a little bit of everything. He has a fly mode that’s manageable, a range attack with decent speed and can chain with itself, a great pop-up attack and good ring out ability with a nice dodge. But being able to do a bit of everything means you are just bland in all of them, aside from his pop-up/ring out threat Johnny is a modest annoyance and it would take a while for him to chip down an opposing enemy. Still I always found him fun to use.
-
Wolverine: My favorite character to use, Wolverine is really likable in this game. His ring out abilities are amazing, he can close the gap well with his run, his dodge is good and his damage output is pretty ridiculous with claw combos. His special dodge actually heals his regen bar up faster than anyone else in the game but it leaves him defenseless. So why isn’t he higher? Basically it’s the problem inherent in this game, without a range attack you are already at a disadvantage in this game.
Wolverine has difficulty getting in on a character with an adequate to good range attack, and after a few hits from the top dogs in this game he is really hurting. Flyers give him a headache as well, since his jump up attack can be a little wonky (Although landing it you could get a ring out, one or two of these could condition a foe to stay grounded). He also can only lift light objects, which makes sense fluff wise, but tactically you aren’t going to mess up Iron Man by hitting him with a trash can very much.
- The Wink: Most annoying character in the game next to Paragon, by far. Wink is similar to Wolverine in that she will fuck you up royally up close, has good speed, and a respectable ground game with ring out options. Her movement power is an incredibly annoying teleport, which zips her across the battlefield pretty fast, ignores range/melee attacks and she can use it to escape combos and punish. Wink’s problems over Wolverine is that she suffers more when she loses meter, and her attacks do laughable damage at that point as well as a crappier air attack.
11/12. Spider-Man/Venom: There really is no reason to separate them, Spider-Man might have a little more speed and Venom might do a little more damage and can lift heavier objects but it’s irrelevant to their abilities. Good speed, good damage, their special attack/combos have limited homing, ground wake-up web ball is amazing, web ball in general is annoying and their air game is sick. Web swing is annoying and probably better than fly in negating a ring out and their special throw is bee knees for ring outs. Web shield is one of the better shield options in the game for being quick to reflect projectiles.
I’d honestly rate them higher, but I think Wolvie and Blink bring more to the table then these two and have better damage output overall.
- Brigade: His projectiles do Iron Man repulsor damage, his basic attacks do respectable damage. He has a good air pop-up and ring out, and his special grab is pretty spiffy. However, one glaring issue with Brigade is that after every 2-3 shots (Or when his meter is empty) he is automatically dazed, arguing with himself and left wide open for a fair amount of time for the opponent to take advantage of. It’s incredibly annoying, I’ve had instances where I’d be beating a friend’s ass with Brigade, only to stop and argue then be ringed out despite perfect health, the fuck kinda game design is that. He’s also slow as balls, and can’t dodge projectiles worth a shit. Honestly if he didn’t have the bickering issue, he’d be Low top/High mid.
Low Tier
-
The Thing: “I’m about to open up a can of whoop ass on you!” Oh Thing, if only that were true. Who would have thought stubby, yellow rock legs would be so slow? Despite the best damage output in the game, a short range but high damage attack, and a super throw that can ring you out 98% of the time you will hardly ever catch a smart opponent with him. Most of your time will be spent super jumping, and using whatever Yomi skills you have to predict a good attack opportunity. That, or launching objects and hoping to god your opponent isn’t smart enough to shoot you when you lift it, hitting you and then dropping the object on you for extra damage.
-
Fault Zone: Ballerina extraordinaire my ass. Fault Zone is fairly quick and agile, her special attack chains with itself and does alright damage, and her super throw and super shield are pretty good. However, all her attacks are fairly week, her pop-up game and ring out game sucks, and her dodge actually is more a hindrance than a help, leaving her in stun or being so slow the opponent can capitalize on it.
-
Elektra: I want to like her in this game, I really do. She is fun to use, her projectile is cheap energy wise and locks down, and she is fast as shit and has great air advantage. However, Elektra fucking does shit damage all around. Projectile? Joke. melee? Joke. About the only thing Elektra is good for is being annoying and running the clock, good luck.
-
Hazmat: You know all the Spider-Man and Venom stuff above? Hazmat is their retard cousin in this game, he does everything they can do, but shittier. Also his dodge actually rolls him into the opponent for free damage, and his air web sling (Good for Venom and Spidey, forgot to mention) is wonky as fuck and will ring him out more often than not.
-
Daredevil: A character I love to read about in the comics, actually plays like a blind man is controlling him in this game. Daredevil’s only good shit is his dodge and his air to ground pursuit special move, that is it. His attacks are wild as hell, and more often then not drops the character in the middle leaving him swinging at air. His projectile attack is good…if it hits, if not your stuck in stun and open to anything. His air swing is fucking stupid, and often I would ring myself out using it. His shield is okay, but drains his energy way to fast. Daredevil just sucks period, play him if you want to “Dan” it up.
That is it, I didn’t expect it to be so big, but I figured I would get the details out of the way to limit the questions.
Universal stuff that is interesting.
Most if not all super shields in this game can reflect projectiles. So if you are pretty spot on with them, that Repulsor shot with Iron Man can fly back at him, good job!
Health seems to be universal, everyone has the same. The difference is the attack strength of characters more or less.
Most air attacks can be done instant air style. So you can jump with say Spider-Man and immediately web zip across the map or hit an opponent, pretty sweet stuff.
Damage and physics properties on objects are off the fucking wall. I could throw a car at an opponent and it could do very minimal damage, another instance it could instant kill. Stuff is also weird like if I throw said car and it hits a wall or another object it’ll frizzle out and launch somewhere else or land on top. It’s totally weird, I like to fuck with this system using Magneto, he can break it.
Edit: Also, to do the Fatalities wait until “Danger” is flashing above your opponents name, get next to them and activate a special throw. It’ll show a cinematic of you wrecking their character and you get an auto-win.
Awesome List. I was always curious about this game; I had actually figured the good/evil counterparts would be in the same tier wise, but I didn’t know about Brigade’s arguing with himself thing. I actually thought this game was pretty decent…would like a sequel improving on it.
I actually really loved to play it, though a lot of random shit could piss you off if you take it seriously. It got blasted review wise despite having a healthy online scene on the original Xbox for a few months, and it was popular among our gaming group (CvS2, then Marvel Nemesis, followed by 3s lol).
They had plans for a spiritual successor sequel, even have a few floor demos of Juggernaut, Hulk and Captain America but EA canned it and the EA/Marvel deal ran up.
EDIT: Don’t listen to Hatred, he be salty.
Sagat and Rufus are really goo in SF4
ITT: S***** fighting games become “obscure fighting games”.
Has anyone attempted to tier this shit storm?

WWF Royal Rumble - SNES
God Tier - Tatanka
Top Tier - Bret Hart/Ric Flair
Mid Tier - Randy Savage/Yokozuna
Bottom Tier - Everyone Else
(Basically ranked on ease of doing their finishing moves)
Although technically, in competitive gameplay, the first one to get a knockdown would win because there was a really easy standing splash/running elbow drop infinite that anyone could do.
Anyway, Tatanka had the easiest finish cuz you didn’t have to drop your opponent to pull it off and you didn’t have to fill the grapple meter. (which is pretty much impossible unless your opponent lets you) All it took was to throw them to the ropes, which took the least amount of grapple meter, and hit R as they rebound.
The search feature here angers me…
Did anyone already mention Street Fighter: The Movie: The Game?
That game is complete crap and impossible to tier. Tried playing it for a while, but the fact that you can have 4 players at the same time and you can keep gaining health back by putting in coins makes it just stupid. Not to mention the fact that the controls are horrible.
