Tiers for obscure games

Dragonball Z Ultimate Battle 22

This is a game for the PS1. Overall the game is bad imo, i decided to do a tier list for it out of curiosity. The mechanics for this game are average. The main flaw is the jumping. They jump too high and come down too slow, and you have time to react with anything. Unless you have a character with a dive kick or something its useless. The timing for canceling from normals to specials is ridiculous, but its easier with some characters.

Normal moves barely do any damage in this game, special moves and energy moves do good damage, but its virtually impossible to hit somebody with a energy move like a Kamehameha because of how slow most of them are. Despite how bad this game is they did do a decent job on the balance.

The tiers are not in order

Top:

Cell- The speed on his normals is average, but he has the most damaging practical combos in the game. His headbutt special comes out fast and is entirely safe on block. His combos average from about 15%-25% depending if he’s close to a corner, which isn’t that bad, but its still more than the others do on average.

Fat Buu- He has decent normals and a good dive kick. He has a special move that’s good for closing in on the opponent, and another special where he jumps into the air and comes back down. It also starts up quick, can cross up, and has little recovery. One of his aerials also works as a good cross up, and he has a useful energy move that shoots in multiple directions

High:

Super Saiyan 2 Gohan- His kicks have good range, and can cancel into special fairly easy for decent damage. He has a good anti air that looks like a dragon punch and is a good reversal, but his specials alone are unsafe on block unless done from a distance. His walking speed is faster than most of the other characters, and his small body frame makes him hard to hit

Super Saiyan Future Trunks- His normals have good range, and he can combo them into one of his specials from any range for good damage and its very safe on block, and comes out fairly quick. He also has a useful energy attack that shoots in multiple directions

Tien- His normals overall have the longest range in the game. He has a safe, quick special he can easily combo into for decent damage from any of his normals at almost any range

Frieza- His kicks have decent range, he’s the only character in the game that can hit confirm because the move hits twice, he has quick specials with a long range and one with good priority, but alone they are unsafe. He has a useful energy move that comes out quick, another one that hits low, and a fairly quick unblockable with good range that could catch somebody off guard. He also has a small body frame

Android 18- She has good combos into specials for good damage, she has a special that comes out quick and is a good punish, and another one that hits low. Her normals have decent range, and she has a small body which makes her hard to hit sometimes

Mid:

Super Saiyan Goku- He has a special move that crosses up good and is safe on block, but options for damage seem average compared to others

Piccolo- One of his specials is really quick, has good range and is a good reversal, safe on block, and he has a good anti air, but his normals come out slow. He has the slowest normals in the game

Zarbon- He has bad range on his normals, but makes up for it with quick and safe specials that punish good with decent damage. I think he has the fastest special in the game

Recoome- He has good mix up with his throws that do good damage, his normals have good range, and average speed

Dabura- He has good mix up with his throw that does good damage, his kicks have good range and good speed. His specials come out slow

Android 16- His combos do average damage. He has a good cross up that looks like a body splash type move

Super Saiyan 3 Goku- His normals have good range and speed, he has a good dive kick and it looks like some of his specials have invincibility frames, but his practical damage output is low

Super Saiyan Gogeta- His normals have good range, good speed, and he has a quick dive kick. He has a very damaging special he can combo into, but it’s unsafe on block. Most of his other specials seem useless

Super Buu- His normals have good range, but most of his specials are slow or useless except for one

Low:

Super Saiyan Goten- His normals don’t have good range, his overall damage is low, his specials have low priority

Super Saiyan Kid Trunks- His normals don’t have good range, overall damage is low, and it looks like one of his special moves is unsafe even when it hits

Super Saiyan Gotenks- Most of his specials look unsafe on block, has poor options for damage

Krillin- Options for damage are low

Saiyaman- He’s a joke character. He does a backwards flip after most of his specials, and it leaves him wide open

Supreme Kai- The range on his normals and specials are bad. His practical damage is poor

Super Saiyan Majin Vegeta- His options for damage compared to others are low

Captain Ginyu- His normals are slow, and have average range, most of his specials are unsafe

Hercule- He can play a decent zoning game, but his overall damage is low

Bottom:

Master Roshi- His specials have a lot of start up, they have invincibility frames, but they still don’t help much because he can just be thrown.

Kid Goku- He has to be the worst character in the game. His normals have poor range and his specials have a lot of start up except without the invincibility that Master Roshi has

Nice tier list. Interesting how SSJ3 Goku is worse than the normal version…

i forgot to say the tiers are not in order

ss3 goku is about equal to ss goku, they are in the same tier

I meant normal Goku. Not SS.

there is no normal goku (except kid goku), he is in his super saiyan state, i went back and changed the name, sorry for the confusion

Ah ok. My bad, still in particular what I meant was how the game doesn’t seem to reward higher level transformations, like say Budokai 3.

Yo i could PWN any of ya with that Anubis dude in Wargods.

Wargods at Evo in 2011 lol.

they should hold side tournaments for obscure games, or more if they already do

Is there a tier list for Sango Fighter 2?

lol.

What about Super Dragonball Z? I rocked Chi-Chi in that shit all day.

Super DBZ is good from what I heard. Anyway the SRK wiki has a list although I don’t think they can go into explanations.

S Class: Frieza/Son Goku/Perfect Cell/Mira Trunks

A Class: Piccolo Jr./Vegeta/17/18

B Class: Son Gohan/16

C Class: Chi Chi/Kuririn

I know Ultimate Gohan i.e Mystic Gohan is in this too and I’m fairly certain he is S class too.

I like that game because I could actually beat my friends with Chi-Chi, as opposed to the Budokai series where you couldn’t even enjoy yourself unless you were playing Evil Shin Super Saiyan 9000 Orochi Vegeta or whatever.

Piccolo, Omega Shinron, Kid Buu, among others don’t fit that description (Budokai 3).

Whatchu talking bout?

Shaq Fu is god tier for the worst fighting game ever! Primal Rage was like meh. How they made a sequal is beyond me.

I was half joking and half exaggerating. The only Dragonball Z character I like is Chi-Chi, but in every game she’s in sans Super Dragonball Z she’s not very good because she’s fucking Chi-Chi. Unless there’s some shit with her in Tenkaichi 3 or something that I don’t know about.

No, the worst fighting game ever is Shadow: War of Succession. The game is broken (in the pure dogshit sense) and unplayable. Here are the tiers for that game.

S Tier

  • Anvil - WTF were the devs thinking? There’s a bug with Anvil that if you press up while he’s in the air, he’ll stay in the air as long as you keep pressing up. This allows for very easy time victories since the time limit can’t be turned off and that he’s very hard to hit while airborne. Mind you Anvil already has the quickest normal attacks in the game and has good air-to-air attacks, which makes him virtually unstoppable in the air.

A Tier

  • Sasha - She has a weird jab infinite that can kill an opponent in 3 seconds, plus she has the only zoning potential (except against Anvil) in the game because she has very fast projectiles that she can toss high or low, like Sagat’s Tiger Shot. Her punches also have good range because of her knife.

  • Viper - If it weren’t for Anvil’s glitch and Sasha’s zoning, Viper would easily be the best character in the game. He has the most amount of special moves of all the characters and he and Riggs are the only characters that can throw people. Viper’s throw is better because he can follow it up with almost anything since he recovers quickly from his throw. Viper also has the second best air game, next to fucking Anvil.

  • Riggs - He’s basically like Viper, except that while Viper has throw follow up potential, Riggs’s normal kick can infinite if you catch an airborne opponent with it. Viper is still better because he’s more versatile and has the ground pound special, which is easily the best special in the game.

  • Erika - Her sword gives her good reach on all of her normals and her projectile has is tied with Riggs’s for the longest reach in the game. Her only major weakness is that her airgame is bad (but at least it exists unlike with Carlos) and that her hitbox is huge because of her sword. Her projectile also randomly becomes unblockable.

B Tier

  • Gabriella - She isn’t very good, though her eye laser move is cheap as hell because its fast and has a glitch where you can repeatedly knock down if you connect with it. Besides her eye laser, the only good thing about her is that she’s the only character that doesn’t lose for free to Anvil because her uppercut is the only thing that can touch him while he’s in midair.

C Tier

  • Carlos - He sucks ass. All of his normals have virtually no range, he has the fewest amount of special moves in the game, and he’s literally the only character that cannot attack in the air. To be fair to him everyone else has overpowered crap in this game, not that it matters since this game sucks.

That’s the tier listing for the Arcade Version. I took the liberty to add the console characters and edit the list a tad. Most of the console characters are just semi-clones of other characters so they usually sit at the same place as the original character. However, Buu is fucking garbage no matter how you go at it. Tiers in Super hop all over the place once characters learn new skills and skill inheritance comes into play. The only thing I saw wrong with the initial list is Chi Chi. Chi Chi is at least A at best. Once she gets some additional moves and buffs she becomes a force. And that’s the coolest part of the Skill System. That having that extra skill or buff could be a deciding factor in the outcome of a match. And it also keeps the tiers pretty close so the majority of characters can compete with each other. I wish more people played Super so it could get the sequel it rightfully deserves but with the cold reception that it got from the casual fans I just don’t see it now. This game needed to drop about 2 years later so it could benefit from all the SF4 hype.

Well that’s how it goes, ReXXXSoprano. If people can’t jump in like BT series or w/e and pick character-no-one-cares about #234, mash buttons and make random huge explosions with mashing, have to be forced to adapt execution (canceling in Budokai), pay attention (ki management in Budokai), or straight up apply and dedicate (Super) than, heck, the game must be garbage.

I really hate how the DBZ series is eaten up mostly by people that can’t play fighting games, but eh.

Wrong. I’d say SSJ4 Gogeta is high tier at BEST. Top tier is probably… SSJ mid Vegeta, SSJ2 teen Gohan, SSJ Trunks, SSJ sword Trunks, Vegeta (not SSJ), Hercule, maybe Broly and Super 17… Probably a few others. Those are who come to mind without re-looking at the cast.

Fatal Fury 1

The first one in the series… It’s… Well… Clunky. And slow. And hard to get used to. But still fun. Anyway…

S

Andy- If he lands a Ku Ha Dan (Spinning Kick) on you it has a chance of KOing you instantly. Not only that, his Zan Ei Ken (Elbow Dash) can hit people as they come up from a knockdown.

A

Joe- His Slide is very useful, and so are the rest of his moves.

A-

Terry- He’s good, just not as good as Andy or Joe.
