Elena is far from garbage tier. In that latest Japanese wiki she’s one above Ibuki which means she’s far from garbage. Her pokes alone are good enough to make her better than the lower half of the cast. She’s at least annoying to solid vs. even the upper half the cast. The only character that’s garbage is Sean. Even Twelve is more viable than his sorry ass.
I don’t know why everyone puts Sean in a separate tier. Most of you have barely even touched him. You’re just saying that because that’s what everybody else says. He’s bottom tier, but it’s not a huge gap or anything. He’s got a good wake-up game and lots of good normals/hit confirms if you play him in SA1. Plus roll/tackle shenanigans are fantastic on your opponent’s wake-up. Just pretend he’s Ken with no reversal and no combos outside of supers.
Sean is to Ken what Yang is to Yun and Urien is to Gill, basically a lesser version of another character. Sean just doesnt have enough options to make him playable on any level…he has never been played at high level in any part of the world so I think its pretty much agreed that he is not usable.
Sean P.? Nobody plays Elena either. Doesn’t necessarily mean anything. It’s just that people who would play Sean, would rather play Ken/Ryu/Akuma since so they’re similar anyway.
These numbers don’t add up, elena is 5 against urien, but urien is 4 against elena
People play Sean; like Kyokuji said, Sean P plays him. If you don’t know who he is, there’s a reason for that: he plays Sean, and as a result he never gets anywhere in tournaments.
Think about Hugo, even. When was the last time you heard of a Hugo player doing well in a major tournament? What, two years ago?
To add to what DJ said further, Alex actually beats Remy imo. Slight advantage. With some patience, Alex just has to get in close once and Remy is in a “hurt locker.” (<3 stallone) For more proof, just look at Remy vs Hugo, easily Remy’s best match. But it’s only 6-4 (the japs agree). Crazy eh? But again, he gets in, and uh oh for Remy. Alex gets in easier and has striking combos along with throws. And can you say small stun meter? Bad news against Alex, which makes a match that, on the surface, would seem to favor Remy, not.
Another surprise for you… Q is even with Remy imo. Q can get his taunts in with almost no problems from Remy. The damage you might eat is negligible. Once Q has his defense up, Remy is in deep fucking trouble.
EDIT: against Hugo, the jap players did agree with 6-4 at one time. I guess they changed their minds. Looking at the “newer” list, it looks like they changed their minds on a few Remy matches like Ibuki, Elena, Hugo… hmm. I will say, it’s good to see they went 3-7 with remy vs ibuki. I’ve heard other Remy players say that it’s an even match, but I think they’re nuts. She’s one of his worst
Sean is garbage. He’s unbelievably gimped. People tend to list 1-2 people that can play him well, while somehow forgetting the fact that they can ONLY list 1-2 people that can play him well.
Tiers are theoretical…ppl forget the psychological and practical aspects of playing a character. For example, when Yun was considered #1, very few ppl could actually reap the rewards of Genei because Yun is hard to use well at a high levels, but he was still considered the best in the game. Another thing I noticed someone mention is the Q vs Remy matchup. Yeah, Q can get his taunts in, but that doesn’t eliminate the annoyance factor that Remy is. It can be soooo fucking frustrating getting in on him with Q, and anyone who has played the matchup can attest to this. What I’m really getting to is the Sean is garbage discussion. No, Sean is not garbage. He may theoretically be the worst, but practically, he is a MUCH better character than Twelve for instance, who is EXTREMELY hard to use at high levels. EVERYONE who’s good at 3S knows that Sean is a mini Ken. They’re familiar with Shoto tactics, they feel COMFORTABLE using him, which is huge.
Bottom line, theory != reality. Keep that in mind before posting junk (this is directed to the ppl who regurgitate shit they see without thinking).
PS. Oh yeah, the “nobody can play him well so he must suck” argument is pure trash. There is only ONE good Yun in the US. Pyrolee. Does that mean Yun sucks? Ummm…no.
Okay I gotta ask, what Can Sean really do agaisnt Yun or Chun. A joke character isnt one that can contend agaisnt top tiers right…so what exaclty can he do agaisnt them.
What can most of the cast do against them? Not much…
I also use Q, so I know how it is to play him. If you don’t have the patience to use Q, then yeah, you’ll lose from sheer annoyance. That’s not the character losing, that’s the player losing mentally. And we all already know it’s theory. Tiers have been discussed plenty before now. It’s not like saying that is some shocking news to us :rolleyes:
No, that’s the character losing. That’s like saying Gief can beat Cable in MVC2 if he has enough “patience”. Lol riiiight. There’s a fine line between patience and stupidity. I’d rather use Chun or someone else who can destroy Remy much more efficiently.

Do you honestly think comparing marvel’s balance to 3S balance makes any sense at all?
No matter what I always say that chemistry between character and player > where that said character is on the list.
It’s never “I have a better chance with this character because this character is better” it’s “I have a better chance with my best character because I’m most effective with them.”
But alot of people on SRK don’t seem to get that. I recall one guy saying it was amazing that jwong came back on yipes with only cyke left one match simply because “cyke isn’t useful in high level play outside of his assist” which is not only incorrect but a lemming response if I’ve ever seen one.
despite that 3S isn’t balanced, a list cannot be fact.
