Our first thing of Horse was just off the wall…we definitely need to do that again, like Pasqual said, before it becomes 5AM

I’ll definitely think about the tournament (as well as some PS3/PS2 controller option for 360 for Alix because I would like him to participate).

As I’ve said with the RanBats, I’m cool with it happening at Versis and the fight nights. But I won’t organize them and they won’t necessarily be a Versis thing, so you guys just need to nominate and figure out one or two people who can be in charge and on top of it

They’ll be great though.

I’ll post my impressions of the night later today, I’m still exhausted from PAX. It was a really awesome night and I had a blast.

Also, finally found someone to money match me in Billy, one of the pad warriors. They left before we could even get started though, we’ll have to finish that next week.

WTF are these ranbat forums for the PNW?

Anyways, as I came home from Versis, I got a good idea for ranbats.

Do a ranbat tourney at the end of each month.

The first three weeks, all the players are divided into random, but sensible pools (i.e. no jamming me into a pool with ray, BBH and fatbear) but a good split of players.

each pool has 4 players each who all play each other in 3 matches, not best of 3 but 3 matches, if you win a game you get a point. So example

Alix, Ray, BBH, FatBear all in the same pool (all of this is random figures and what not)

Alix plays Ray and goes 2-1
Alix plays BBh and goes 1-2
Alix plays Fatbear and goes 3-0

At the end Alix goes 6-3 and only wins count as points so alix has 6 points for this months RR and goes to his total score for the season, however long we decide

At the end of the month, theres a say…16 person bracket, as it took us 3 hours to do. So the top 8 are guaranteed seeds, and then for the other 8 spots, there could be a single elim type tournament between the rest of the spots between the remaining players or whatever.

At the end of the tournament, the top 8 get whatever point system we figure out, along with Pasquals point system.

Hopefully that makes sense. I’m going to get a 2 hour power nap yo!

I’ll elaborate more on the system tonight.

Hey there Monkey(sarefun13),

Welcome to PDX!

There are a few good places, but coordinating can be a bit tricky. Ground Kontrol is a great place for retro games and I hear the Wednesday events (last Wed of each month) are awesome so that is highly recommended.

Tilt is the arcade at Lloyd Center on the top floor next to the theater. It’s the traditional meeting place for the fighting game crowd. The main games being played there are King of Fighters XI (they sent off XII despite being like the first place in the world to have it, which makes me sad, I love XII), MvC2, and Tekken 6 (vanilla 6). Tilt has a big place in my heart because of its history and a great staff that takes care of their machines (well, the fighting and racing games at least).

If you want Third Strike, the best place right now is Game Trader at Cedar Hills Crossing in Beaverton. IMO, it’s the best gaming store in the NW though they do not specialize in collector’s items and imports like Pink Godzilla (I mean Gorilla). But they have a good staff that loves gaming, and you can find tons of stuff as far back as the NES (they have some Atari but not really).

Portland State University has their Random Select Club which has awesome sessions (and free too) but I highly recommend you become an invited guest before going to a session. It is a school club and they are cool people, but I think it’s good to respect that it’s not a big open session, those students do get held responsible for whatever happens at those club meetings. You’ll eventually meet members along the way I think.

There is a Guilty Gear/BlazBlue group, but I think it’s best to get invited to their sessions before diving in.

Also if you are interested in Smash, my friend Casey has been working hard to unite the NW players, especially in Oregon and Vancouver. They have a very strong and big community now and apparently lots of sessions.

Though I run Versis, I do want to see the communities strive whether it’s here at my venue or elsewhere. I just hope Versis can help it all out too, but it’s best for all if all of the communities are doing well and flourishing

Thanks it was nice meetin everyone I had a blast. The random tourny didnt scare me it just motivated me. I really wanna level up so I can start winning some $$$ in tournaments and cash games . Im gonna work on a few things and Ill be back next week!
